“I haven’t seen this car here before,” Damon commented as we got out of the taxi we’d taken from the airport. He went around to the back of the car and retrieved my suitcases from the trunk before paying the driver.

“My father bought it for me,” I told him.

“I thought you weren’t on good terms with your parents?”

I shrugged. “They suddenly love me because I’m dating you.” I’d accepted the fact that I was never going to be enough for my parents if I stayed single. They had grown up the the mindset that a woman’s value was attached to her partner and there was nothing I could do to eradicate it from them. It would have been a battle if I had fallen in love with a man who wasn’t wealthy and had no connections. They would have been strongly against it and I wouldn’t even be surprised.

“Well, they love you now so I guess it’s a win-win situation for you.”

I let out a short breathy laugh. “You could say that.”
