VENUS

I woke up to silence.

Not the kind that wraps you in calm but the kind that hums with questions, heavy and uncertain. The kind that makes your heart beat just a little too loud in your own chest.

Soft light poured through the sheer curtains, tracing faint golden lines across the sheets. Aaron's sheets. His room.

But not him.

I sat up slowly, every muscle aware of the chill that rushed in to kiss the bare skin beneath the sheet. My eyes drifted to the space beside me, and the ache came quick and sharp.

He wasn’t here.

The other side of the bed was untouched and cold.

My heart sank before my thoughts could even catch up.

Maybe last night had been a mistake. Maybe I misread it: the closeness, the confessions, the way his hands shook just slightly when he held me like he wasn’t used to softness. Maybe it was too much whiskey, too much grief, too much of something he’d already decided he couldn’t afford to feel.

Maybe he regretted it. Regretted me.

Last night I realized that I was in

VENUSI paused in the hallway, hand on the knob, breath caught somewhere between my lungs and ribs. The silence on the other side wasn’t peaceful, it was too still, too sharp.Less like calm… more like a warning.I pushed the door open slowly. The penthouse looked the same. But it didn’t feel the same. The lights were low. A single lamp flickered near the bar, casting jagged shadows across the marble floor.A glass of whiskey sat untouched on the counter. His navy blue jacket—the one I always reached for—was draped across the back of a chair. And the faint trace of his cologne still lingered, haunting and intimate. But him?Nowhere.“Aaron?” I called out.Silence.I moved through the living room, past the kitchen, down the hallway. The study door hung half-open, light spilling through like a spotlight on something unspoken. My hand hovered above the handle. Then I pushed. He was there.Behind the desk.Sleeves rolled.Jaw shadowed in stubble.Eyes like winter storms—cut-glass and unre

VENUSBy morning, I’d made my decision.I was going back to New York. Early. The text. The photos. The silence from Aaron, none of it could wait. Not another sleepless night. Not another forced smile at brunch. Not another moment pretending I wasn’t unraveling beneath the surface. I needed answers. I needed him.Even if I wasn’t sure which version of him I’d find on the other end.---Sabine was the first to notice something had changed. She swept into the kitchen like she always did, effortlessly regal in a silk robe that made her look like she floated rather than walked. Her hair was twisted into a towel, her posture perfect, and her gaze sharp as ever. She studied me, silent for a beat, then padded over to the espresso machine.“You’re leaving early.”Not a question. A statement. An observation.I didn’t look up from my phone. “Yes.”She took her time pouring her espresso. Then she sat across from me at the marble island, legs crossed, robe fluttering like a cape around her. Queen-

AARONHe hit the wall, coughing, blood smeared across his lip.“Touch her again,” I growled, my voice a low, dangerous rumble, “and I’ll break every bone you’ve got left.”He grinned through the pain, the bastard. “You assume I touched her.”“You really want to test me?”“Oh no,” he rasped, wiping blood from his mouth with the back of his hand. “I want to show you something.”He staggered over to his desk, pulled out a sleek black folder, and slid it across the table.I didn’t move. Didn’t breathe. But curiosity was poison, and I was already infected. My hand reached before I told it to, unfolding the flap slowly. It wasn’t more photos. It was the contract.Ours.Every line. Every clause. Every condition we agreed on.But this wasn’t my copy.It was hers.A copy only Venus should’ve had.Dorian leaned back like a king watching his pawn fall. Smug. Pleased.“I told you,” he said, coolly. “You don’t know her like you think you do.”And for the first time in years—I didn’t know what was

VENUSLondon had become a dream these past few days, wrapped in silk mornings, chaotic laughter, and the clink of teacups against delicate saucers. And it was a shame, really, that we’d be leaving in less than three days. Time moved too fast, too damn fast. I wouldn't say I wasn’t excited to see Aaron again, but something inside me whispered that the clock was ticking louder than usual.Speaking of him... he hadn’t texted me since this morning.I’d sent several messages. Nothing dramatic. Just small check-ins, a meme or two Gianna forced me to forward, a picture of Sabine looking like a Bond villain in oversized sunglasses. Normally, he’d have replied with a sarcastic comment, or a dry remark that secretly made me smile. But today? Silence.Sabine and Gianna tried to convince me he was just busy, some crisis with one of the subsidiaries, or maybe brooding over the Empire State Building like a modern-day Dracula but I had a nagging feeling. The kind that claws quietly at your spine unt

AARONThe silence in the office was short-lived.Not even an hour after Ashford left, and I was still standing at the window, staring out over the skyline, trying to process what he’d just said.Sister.He said Venus was his sister. My wife—contractual or not—was the missing sibling of a powerful man I didn’t trust, didn’t like, and now had to consider family by extension.“Jesus,” I muttered, pressing my palm to the glass.Below, the city carried on: traffic weaving through stone arteries, people bustling with purpose, unaware that the axis of my world had just cracked.Connor hadn’t said much after Ashford left. He stood with arms crossed, face unreadable—but I knew that look. It was the one he wore before a hostile takeover. The one he kept when people lied straight to his face in court. Calculating. Cold. Focused.“You believe him?” I asked, finally.Connor’s gaze flicked to mine. “I believe he believes it. Whether it’s true or not... that’s what we’ll find out.”DNA. Proof.Ashf

AARONThe silence in my office was rare and for once, welcome. No ringing phones. No back-to-back meetings. No crisis clawing at my attention. Just the distant hum of New York City outside, muffled by the thick glass of the penthouse windows. The world below was alive, pulsing and urgent, but in here, for a breath of a moment, it felt like time had stopped.I leaned back in my chair, phone in hand, scrolling through messages I had already read twice, maybe three times. It was ridiculous. Obsessive. But I didn’t care. The last message from Venus sat like warmth in my palm, buzzing under my skin.VENUS: We’re going fabric hunting again. Gianna nearly committed murder in front of a cashmere wall. It was glorious. Also: I didn’t buy anything today. Aren’t you proud? 😌Not that she ever spends my money. I saw the card I gave her laying on my table.ME: That depends. Did you at least threaten to?VENUS: Sabine nearly tackled a vendor over gold thread. I did my part by eating three macaron
