SARAH PIERCE

I… I don’t know what to say. I once swore to never cry because of Nathaniel, but yesterday, the statement he made was just too… wicked. And despite crying out the poison of his words, my heart still aches.

I just… simply cannot comprehend why he, the very ex he mentioned, would insult me with a great wound I am yet to heal from. I sincerely don’t understand. Is it so hard for him to come clean and apologise to me? Is his ego that big and stupid?

“Sarah?”

“Huh?” My tired eyes looked up at Olivia, another worker in the supermarket.

“It’s one pm. Your shift is over.”

“Oh.” I looked around and saw the line forming in front of my counter.

“You okay?’ she asked, her hands almost reaching to hold me.

“Oh, yeah.” I forced a smile and stood up from my high stool. “I am.”

After wiping my face to recover from the intensity of my thoughts, I thanked her and went to the staff closet to take off my work jacket and grab my bag.

SARAH PIERCE“D-Do you freaking hear yourself?” My eyes widened in disbelief stayed fixed on Crawford who just uttered the silliest thing. “Me? Your ex? You must be crazy.”“Hear that, Mr. Popo?” Crawford asked, his head shaking in amusement. “She denies me. She is ashamed of me, ya know.” “No. I am ashamed of myself. That I am sitting here, listening to this nonsense.” I faced the cop taking our verbal statement. “Saturday was the first time I saw this man. He came asking for Nathaniel and-”“Who is Nathaniel?” Officer Micheal, asked. “My… husband.” My head almost lowered in shame for a reason I can’t name.“I need you to be more audible.”I don't… God! “He is my husband,” I replied with more volume. “Okay. So, Crawford asked to see your husband?”“Yes. Nathaniel left for a trip so he's not around.”“Did you call your husband to confirm if he was expecting Mr. Crawford?”“He said he doesn't know who Clawford is.” Wait a minute… Earlier, Nathaniel talked breezily, suggesting that

SARAH PIERCEMonday arrived faster than hoped and my work hour ended with me finishing up my resume and CV, and with renewed courage, I submitted my application, my heart pounding hard afterwards. Now, I am close to our house, waiting for Raya’s bus to arrive. My arms were folded and I was wondering what time to do laundry when I glanced behind and saw someone masculine staring. At first, I was sure I imagined it, but I looked again and my eyes met the man whose face I was yet to clearly see.Slightly scared, I faced my front and fortunately, Raya’s bus arrived at that moment. The goodbyes were short even though Miss Sunshine had something to tell me. “Mummy, I wu say bye,” Raya complained as my turbo speed moved past the creepy man who was still watching me. “Tomorrow, Raya,” I reply with a hush, my eyes evading the strange man. When we reached our house, my feet hastened. I unlocked the door, looked behind and was shocked to see that it was that weird Shaw Clawford.Quickly, I

SARAH PIERCE“Mummy!” Raya whined, her hand pulling the door handle which kept making a weird clicking sound. “School!”“Baby, I told you,” I tiredly say while getting up, “there is no school today. You have to wait till monday.”“No.” She was now hanging in the air, I hurried before she could hurt herself. “School, mummy! School!”“Okay.” Why did I wish for her tantrum days to happen? Her screams are slightly frightening. “Come with me.” I bundled her into my arms. “Let us go to school.”She stopped her whining. “Really?” her babyish voice asked. “Yes.” I headed to the living room, sat on a sofa, made sure she was no longer kicking, then with the remote, turned on the TV and found a fun and educational Youtube program. The moment the delightful singing of ABCs filled the room, her focus was drawn to it and she crawled herself out of my arm to sit on her own. “Oh, thank God,” I muttered beneath my breath, grateful to have peace back. In a while, this is the first time I have had a

NATHANIEL STORMI met a very empty place when I got home. And because the itch in my heart worsened, I wandered into Sarah’s room. At first, I wanted to peek, but the blue walls welcomed me when I opened the door and I felt compelled to walk in. The last time I stepped into this room, it was very empty. It was nice to see how the interior guys designed it for Sarah and her daughter. I walked past the roughly laid bed and headed to the wardrobe. The near emptiness of the space surprised me. At most, there were twenty pieces of clothes and most were in Raya's size. This concerned me greatly.I was wondering whether to apologise by purchasing some clothes when a brown jewelry box caught my attention. I opened it and, as if it were hot iron, dropped it instantly, my heart racing with despair and confusion. Staring back at me, was a silver necklace, with… a rose… pendant, tainted with a little dry blood. Just as I have seen over and over in my nightmares. What…My hand flew to my che

NATHANIEL STORM“We are done with the meetings,” Amir announced as we bounced out of the conference room. “Flamez will start their world tour tomorrow. The girl group, Gnarly, is debuting in two days.”“Good. And my trip to Barbadon?”“Ticket purchased. Amazing seat,” he said, his voice lacking its usual thrill “Keep up the sass, Amir. It will go a long way.”“Sorry,” he grumbled. “What happens between me and Sarah is none of your business,” I remind him. “Be careful with your attitude.”“I just feel that-”“Huh uh.” I shook my head, halted my quick steps, and faced him. “Don’t feel. Don’t think. Just shut up.”“Okay, sir,” Amir muttered, eyes narrowing with unspoken words.“The videos and photos from the day Sarah came?”“Taken care of,” he replied rapidly, the way a secretary working for me should. “Am I done for the day?” I asked, my feet resuming the journey to my office.“Almost. We-”“Nathaniel!” Rosaline’s voice interrupted our discussion, her hand waving with too much excit
