Chapter 29

In the weeks following Elder Thomas’s execution, Lydia immersed herself into the daily heart of the Frostwell territory. Guided by Yvonne, she took over the management of the pack’s domestic affairs—visiting the healing lodge, overseeing the winter food reserves, and meeting with the lower-tier families whose livelihoods depended on the Alpha estate. Most of the pack welcomed her with open arms, deeply touched by her quiet grace and genuine compassion. Yet, beneath the surface of the territorial accord, a bitter ember of resentment still flickered among a select few.

Cindy had spent years cultivating a clique of privileged noblewomen, promising them high favour once she claimed the Luna throne alongside Cassius. Though Cindy’s treason was documented, her lingering loyalists refused to let go of their malice. They viewed Lydia as a frail outsider from the Howler lands who had stolen the crown meant for their inner circle.

The hostility came to a head in the pack’s main assembly hall during a weekly supply distribution. As Lydia personally handed heavy wool coats to an elderly wolf family, whispers echoed sharply from a nearby table where Cindy’s former inner circle sat.

“Look at how she puts on a show,” sneered Lady Victoria, one of Cindy’s closest confidantes, loud enough to drift across the stone floor. “She thinks giving out blankets masks the fact that she was broken by common rogues. An Alpha’s bed doesn’t make an outsider fit to lead true Frostwell blood.”

Snickers rippled through the small group. Yvonne’s jaw clenched, her hand flying toward her belt as she prepared to intervene, but Lydia held up a single, gentle hand, stopping her friend in her tracks.

Lydia turned slowly, holding herself with magnificent, unyielding poise. Her emerald eyes flashed with a cold, sovereign light as she stepped toward the lingering faction.

“If you wish to debate my fitness to lead, Lady Victoria,” Lydia’s voice rang out, quiet yet carrying the immense, undeniable weight of her Luna aura, “do so directly to my face—or state your grievances to Alpha Asher when he returns from the perimeter.”

Victoria’s smirk withered under the sudden, suffocating pressure of Lydia’s presence, her face draining of colour as the surrounding pack members turned to glare at the small clique in open disgust. Before Victoria could stammer an apology, a low, ominous growl echoed from the main archway.

Asher stepped into the hall, his broad frame radiating an icy, lethal fury as his blue eyes locked onto the trembling women. He had felt his mate’s spike of tension across their bond. Walking to Lydia’s side, he wrapped his heavy arm around her waist, pulling her flush against him while casting a look of absolute ruin toward Victoria’s table.

“If anyone in this room has a problem with my Luna,” Asher growled softly, the sound vibrating through the stone floor, “speak now, or forfeit your place in this pack forever.”

Victoria and her friends bowed their heads in sheer terror, realizing too late that Lydia Caldwell was no longer a victim to be bullied, but an unshakeable sovereign protected by the fiercest Alpha in the north.

The heavy silence in the main assembly hall hung like a drawn blade. Most wolves would have fallen to their knees, crushed by the suffocating weight of Alpha Asher’s lethal aura. But Lady Victoria, blinded by years of aristocratic privilege and deep-seated bitterness over Cindy’s downfall, let her pride override her survival instinct.

She swallowed hard, her chest heaving, and forced herself to stand tall.

“With all due respect, Alpha,” Victoria spoke out, her voice trembling slightly before hardening with foolish defiance. “I only speak the truth that many noble families whisper behind closed doors! For generations, the Frostwell pack has been ruled by pure northern blood—women trained from birth to understand our laws and endure our winters. Cindy was one of us! Instead, we are forced to bow to a Howler outsider who allowed herself to be taken by common rogues and dragged through the mud!”

Gasps rippled through the gathered crowd. Yvonne took a sharp breath, her eyes widening in disbelief at Victoria’s brazen suicidal audacity.

Asher’s blue eyes burned with a terrifying, demonic light. A sound rumbling deep within his chest—a low, thunderous growl of pure, unleashed Alpha rage—vibrated the very stone flagstones beneath their feet. Shadowy ripples of his beast surged to the surface, his claws extending as he took a lethal step forward to snap Victoria’s neck where she stood.

Before he could strike, a soft, firm hand pressed gently against his chest.

Lydia stepped in front of her mate, her touch instantly soothing the violent tempest raging inside Asher. She didn’t hide behind his towering frame; instead, she looked directly at Victoria, her green eyes flashing with an unyielding, sovereign power that commanded absolute authority.

“You speak of endurance and purity, Victoria,” Lydia said, her tone smooth, ice-cold, and ringing effortlessly into every corner of the vast hall. “Yet while the men and women of this pack bled on the borders to hunt down traitors and secure our lands, you sat in warm parlours spreading venom and mourning a woman who conspired with rogues to slaughter our people.”

Victoria opened her mouth to snap back, but Lydia took a slow, deliberate step toward her, her Luna aura expanding in a radiant wave that forced Victoria’s knees to buckle against her will.

“I did not ask to be taken by rogues,” Lydia continued, her voice rising with quiet, majestic steel. “I bled, I survived, and I reclaimed my place beside my mate. My strength was forged in fire, while yours exists only in empty titles. If you believe your ‘pure blood’ makes you superior, then you no longer belong in a hall supported by the hard work of the common people you so clearly despise.”

Lydia turned her gaze to Asher, whose fierce rage had melted into pure, breath-taking pride as he looked down at his wife.

“Alpha,” Lydia commanded calmly, “Lady Victoria and her family’s noble privileges are hereby stripped. Their seat on the trade council is revoked, and they are reassigned to the outer agricultural outposts to serve the pack through honest labour until they learn the true meaning of loyalty.”

Victoria’s face drained of every drop of colour. “You cannot do this! Alpha, tell her she cannot—”

“My Luna’s word is absolute law,” Asher growled, his voice carrying the finality of an executioner’s blade. “Curtus, remove them from my sight before I decide death is a more fitting punishment.”

Delta Curtus and four elite sentries stepped forward, grabbing Victoria and her snickering companions by their arms and dragging them out of the assembly hall as Victoria wept and begged for leniency.

When the heavy doors slammed shut, a breathless quiet fell over the remaining pack members. Then, starting with an old warrior near the front, one by one, every wolf in the hall dropped to one knee, bowing their heads in deep, genuine reverence to their sovereign.

Asher wrapped his broad arm around Lydia’s waist, pulling her flush against his side as his lips brushed against her temple, his heart bursting with fierce, unshakeable devotion. She wasn’t just his mate anymore—she was the undisputed queen of the Frostwell territory.

The horn of the northern gate sounded three long, clear notes that echoed through the snow-capped gorges of the Frozen Spine, signaling a triumphant return.Down in the main courtyard, hundreds of pack members from Frostwell, Howler, and Ironwood had gathered along the stone ramparts. As the heavy iron gates swung wide, a dark shadow burst through the pine treeline at blistering speed. Zane bounded across the frosty cobblestones in his majestic wolf form, his dark coat dusted with snow and his brilliant blue eyes blazing with fierce, untamed energy. He leaped onto the central stone dais, skidding to a halt before shifting seamlessly back into his human form. His chest heaved with deep, steady breaths, sweat glistening against his brow in the crisp mountain air, but he stood tall, unyielding and proud.Beta Silas stepped forward, holding an ornate silver pocket watch in his gloved hand. He clicked it shut with a sharp snap, his amber eyes locking onto the young prince before a rare, br

The frosted boughs of the ancient pine forest creaked under the weight of an early autumn snowfall, dusting the high trails of the Frozen Spine in crisp white. High on the Sentinel’s Crag—the highest overlook in the Frostwell territory—fourteen-year-old Zane Frost stood with his boots planted firmly on the stone, his breath rising in silver plumes against the icy morning air.He wore the dark leather tunic of the northern vanguard, trimmed with grey wolf fur, and his sharp blue eyes—strikingly clear, just like his father’s—were fixed on the horizon where the first pink and gold rays of dawn were breaking through the clouds.Behind him, the heavy snow crunched under a familiar, authoritative step. Alpha Asher Frost walked out onto the stone ledge, his broad shoulders draped in the dark, heavy mantle of the sovereign Alpha. Time had added silver strands to his dark hair at the temples, but his presence was as commanding and formidable as ever.Asher stopped beside his son, looking down

Ten years after the fall of the Silver Crest Dominion, the Whispering Ridge stood not as a barrier of blood and ash, but as the golden crown of a thriving empire. Where war horns had once echoed through frozen gorges, merchant caravans now sounded silver bells, traveling along stone-paved highways that linked the Frostwell territory, the Howler pack, and the Ironwood realm into an unbreakable trinity of peace.High upon the eastern battlements of the Frostwell stronghold, Alpha Asher Frost stood with his broad arm wrapped securely around Luna Lydia. Time had only deepened the majestic aura surrounding the Alpha pair. The fine lines around Asher’s icy blue eyes spoke not of stress or sleepless siege nights, but of a decade spent watching his people flourish. Beside him, Lydia remained the radiant pulse of the kingdom, her sovereign grace and sharp mind keeping the alliance anchored in unwavering justice. Beneath their skin, the golden threads of their mate bond burned as bright and vib

The amber sunlight bled into deep indigo along the jagged peaks of the Frozen Spine as dusk settled over the Moon Grove. Torches flickered along the stone perimeter, casting long, dancing shadows across the festival grounds where laughter, music, and the heavy scent of roasted meats filled the crisp mountain air.Silas stood near the edge of the stone terrace, his fingers loosely wrapped around a horn of spiced mead, though he hadn’t taken a sip in ten minutes. Beside him, Vanya was leaning against the stone balustrade, watching the young wolves dance around the central bonfire. But as a cool mountain draft swept up from the lower gorge, bringing with it a faint, unnatural scent—burnt copper and damp ash—Silas’s posture shifted in an instant. His amber eyes narrowed, his spine straightening like a drawn bowstring.Vanya didn’t miss it. She didn’t ask what was wrong; she simply set her cup down on the stone ledge, her gray eyes instantly scanning the treeline below the eastern gate.“W

The heavy oak doors of the lower corridors gave way to a flood of golden mid-morning sunlight as Silas and Vanya stepped out into the bustling central courtyard. The Solstice festival was in full, glorious swing. Lively northern fiddles chimed through the crisp air, mingled with the booming laughter of visiting warriors, the clinking of pewter mugs, and the rich, savory aroma of spiced roasted meats roasting over open stone hearths. For the first time in years, Beta Silas Black walked into a crowd without a ledger in hand or a scowl of intense vigilance locked onto his brow. Beside him, Captain Vanya had tossed her dark traveling cloak over one shoulder, her storm-gray eyes gleaming as she took in the vibrant energy of the Frostwell grounds.High on the dais, Alpha Asher was leaning back in his grand carved seat, his arm draped securely over Lydia’s waist as young Zane sat nearby, enthusiastically describing a practice maneuver to Alpha Mason. The moment Asher’s sharp blue eyes caught

Dawn had not yet broken over the Frozen Spine when the grandfather clock in the corner of the lower map room chimed five times. The subterranean chamber was cold, smelling of old parchment, iron ink, and beeswax, illuminated only by a pair of heavy brass oil lamps casting long shadows across the central oak table.Silas sat at the head of the table, his dark hair neatly combed back, wearing a crisp linen shirt beneath a dark leather vest. Spread out before him were the grand topographic scrolls of the northern provinces. He had arrived at four-thirty, unable to pretend that sleep was ever going to come after their midnight meeting in the courtyard. The heavy oak door swung open precisely on the fifth chime.Captain Vanya stepped through the threshold, shedding her dark traveling mantle to reveal a sleek, form-fitting tunic of Ironwood slate gray. Her dark hair was tightly braided, her storm-gray eyes sharp and fully alert despite the ungodly hour. In her hand, she carried a tightly bo
