Chapter 28

Night descended over the Frostwell mountains like a heavy wool blanket, carrying a bitter frost that settled across the pine needles. Deep within the shadow of the central estate, Elder Thomas’s private manor remained deceptively dark, its curtained windows hiding the panicked betrayal unfolding within.

Inside his underground study, hidden behind a heavy mahogany bookcase, Thomas worked in frantic haste. Sweat beaded on his wrinkled brow as he unlocked a iron safe, pulling out a sealed leather pouch containing his private communication cipher and gold tokens stamped with the seal of the Silver Crest Dominion. His old hands trembled as he ignited a black tallow candle to melt sealing wax. He needed to dispatch his covert courier immediately to warn his foreign benefactor that the Frostwell Alpha was closing in.

“I warned Cassius he was too reckless,” Thomas muttered under his breath, his voice thin with panicked venom. “Foolish boy left a trail...”

“And you were a fool to think he was the only one,” a low, thunderous voice reverberated from the darkness of the room.

Thomas spun around, dropping the wax in horror.

The heavy stone door of the secret chamber didn’t just open—it was violently kicked off its iron hinges. Delta Curtus stepped through the dust, while Gamma Liam slipped inside with twin silver daggers drawn, his squad of elite sentries instantly flooding the underground chamber and sealing off every escape route.

Then, stepping into the dim candlelight came Alpha Asher and Luna Lydia.

Asher’s towering frame radiated an apocalyptic Alpha aura, his icy blue eyes glowing with lethal fury in the shadows. Beside him, dressed in a sweeping dark velvet cloak, Lydia stepped forward without a single trace of hesitation. Her green eyes locked onto Thomas, her expression cold, regal, and entirely unyielding.

“Alpha...” Thomas gasped, his face draining of all colour as he scrambled backward against his desk, instinctively hiding the foreign cipher behind his back. “What is the meaning of this intrusion? I am a senior councillor—”

“Save your breath, traitor,” Asher growled, his voice vibrating with absolute death. In a fraction of a second, Asher blurred across the stone floor. His broad hand snapped around Thomas’s throat like a vice of cold iron, lifting the elder wolf clear off his feet and slamming him against the granite wall.

The foreign cipher and silver coins spilled from Thomas’s limp fingers, clattering loudly across the floor. Liam picked up the parchment, holding it up to the candlelight. “It’s the exact matching seal from the old packhouse ledger, Asher. Addressed directly to the Silver Crest High Command.”

Thomas choked, his eyes bulging as he clawed uselessly at Asher’s unyielding grip. “You... you can’t... the council...”

Lydia walked up slowly, standing right before the gasping traitor. Her voice rang out sharp and clear into the quiet cellar, carrying the full, magnificent authority of her title. “The council will see you executed for high treason, Thomas. You sold my life for foreign gold and power. But you failed. Frostwell will never fall to a coward hiding in the shadows.”

Asher’s eyes burned with vicious pride as he looked at his mate, before turning his gaze back to the writhing traitor in his grasp. “Your trial begins at dawn,” Asher growled softly against Thomas’s ear. “And your execution follows at noon.”

With a flick of his wrist, Asher tossed the disgraced elder to the cold stone floor like a rag doll. Curtus stepped forward instantly, slapping heavy, silver-threaded cuffs over Thomas’s wrists with a sickening metallic click. The elder wolf wept and scrambled against the flags, his pious veneer utterly shattered, but no one in the room offered a drop of pity.

“Drag him to the lowest subterranean cell,” Asher commanded, his voice cold enough to freeze blood. “Put double sentries on the door. He stays in total darkness until the sun hits its peak.”

By dawn, the grand Council Hall was packed to capacity. Rumours of the late-night raid had torn through the Frostwell estate like a wildfire. When Asher and Lydia entered the room in full formal attire, taking their twin thrones, a suffocating silence settled over the crowd.

Gamma Liam laid out the evidence with brutal efficiency: the decrypted foreign ledgers, the silver coins stamped with the Silver Crest Dominion seal, and the original cipher key detailing the exact route maps for Lydia’s ambush. The remaining Elders stared in stunned horror at the overwhelming proof of their peer’s betrayal. When forced to stand before the dais, Thomas could offer no defence, reduced to pitiful groans as his own handwriting condemned him.

The council’s verdict was swift and unanimous: death for high treason.

At noon, beneath the harsh glare of the midday sun, the pack gathered in the central courtyard. Thomas was brought forth in iron chains, forced to his knees before the stone block. High on the stone balcony overlooking the grounds, Asher stood with his arm wrapped securely around Lydia’s waist, pouring steady golden warmth into her spirit.

Lydia looked down at the man who had traded her life for foreign influence, her emerald eyes calm, steady, and unyielding. She did not flinch when Asher gave the signal, nor when Liam’s broadsword fell with swift, absolute finality. The internal rot that had plagued the Frostwell pack was officially excised.

Later that evening, standing on the private balcony of the Alpha Residence, Asher wrapped his heavy fur cloak around Lydia, pulling her back against his chest as the mountain wind whistled through the pines.

“The snake in our house is gone, little one,” Asher whispered, resting his jaw against her crown as his thumb brushed over her glowing mate mark. “You are completely safe.”

Lydia turned in his arms, resting her hands against his broad chest. “Thomas was the hand inside our walls, Asher,” she said softly, her green eyes burning with sharp, regal determination. “But the Silver Crest Dominion provided the gold. They will come for us eventually.”

A fierce, dark smile touched Asher’s lips. He leaned down, pressing a lingering, possessive kiss to her lips that set their mate bond ablaze. “Let them try,” he growled low in his throat. “We stand together now, Luna. They will find only fire and steel.”

The horn of the northern gate sounded three long, clear notes that echoed through the snow-capped gorges of the Frozen Spine, signaling a triumphant return.Down in the main courtyard, hundreds of pack members from Frostwell, Howler, and Ironwood had gathered along the stone ramparts. As the heavy iron gates swung wide, a dark shadow burst through the pine treeline at blistering speed. Zane bounded across the frosty cobblestones in his majestic wolf form, his dark coat dusted with snow and his brilliant blue eyes blazing with fierce, untamed energy. He leaped onto the central stone dais, skidding to a halt before shifting seamlessly back into his human form. His chest heaved with deep, steady breaths, sweat glistening against his brow in the crisp mountain air, but he stood tall, unyielding and proud.Beta Silas stepped forward, holding an ornate silver pocket watch in his gloved hand. He clicked it shut with a sharp snap, his amber eyes locking onto the young prince before a rare, br

  • Crown of Frost and Gold   Chapter 51

The frosted boughs of the ancient pine forest creaked under the weight of an early autumn snowfall, dusting the high trails of the Frozen Spine in crisp white. High on the Sentinel’s Crag—the highest overlook in the Frostwell territory—fourteen-year-old Zane Frost stood with his boots planted firmly on the stone, his breath rising in silver plumes against the icy morning air.He wore the dark leather tunic of the northern vanguard, trimmed with grey wolf fur, and his sharp blue eyes—strikingly clear, just like his father’s—were fixed on the horizon where the first pink and gold rays of dawn were breaking through the clouds.Behind him, the heavy snow crunched under a familiar, authoritative step. Alpha Asher Frost walked out onto the stone ledge, his broad shoulders draped in the dark, heavy mantle of the sovereign Alpha. Time had added silver strands to his dark hair at the temples, but his presence was as commanding and formidable as ever.Asher stopped beside his son, looking down

Ten years after the fall of the Silver Crest Dominion, the Whispering Ridge stood not as a barrier of blood and ash, but as the golden crown of a thriving empire. Where war horns had once echoed through frozen gorges, merchant caravans now sounded silver bells, traveling along stone-paved highways that linked the Frostwell territory, the Howler pack, and the Ironwood realm into an unbreakable trinity of peace.High upon the eastern battlements of the Frostwell stronghold, Alpha Asher Frost stood with his broad arm wrapped securely around Luna Lydia. Time had only deepened the majestic aura surrounding the Alpha pair. The fine lines around Asher’s icy blue eyes spoke not of stress or sleepless siege nights, but of a decade spent watching his people flourish. Beside him, Lydia remained the radiant pulse of the kingdom, her sovereign grace and sharp mind keeping the alliance anchored in unwavering justice. Beneath their skin, the golden threads of their mate bond burned as bright and vib

The amber sunlight bled into deep indigo along the jagged peaks of the Frozen Spine as dusk settled over the Moon Grove. Torches flickered along the stone perimeter, casting long, dancing shadows across the festival grounds where laughter, music, and the heavy scent of roasted meats filled the crisp mountain air.Silas stood near the edge of the stone terrace, his fingers loosely wrapped around a horn of spiced mead, though he hadn’t taken a sip in ten minutes. Beside him, Vanya was leaning against the stone balustrade, watching the young wolves dance around the central bonfire. But as a cool mountain draft swept up from the lower gorge, bringing with it a faint, unnatural scent—burnt copper and damp ash—Silas’s posture shifted in an instant. His amber eyes narrowed, his spine straightening like a drawn bowstring.Vanya didn’t miss it. She didn’t ask what was wrong; she simply set her cup down on the stone ledge, her gray eyes instantly scanning the treeline below the eastern gate.“W

The heavy oak doors of the lower corridors gave way to a flood of golden mid-morning sunlight as Silas and Vanya stepped out into the bustling central courtyard. The Solstice festival was in full, glorious swing. Lively northern fiddles chimed through the crisp air, mingled with the booming laughter of visiting warriors, the clinking of pewter mugs, and the rich, savory aroma of spiced roasted meats roasting over open stone hearths. For the first time in years, Beta Silas Black walked into a crowd without a ledger in hand or a scowl of intense vigilance locked onto his brow. Beside him, Captain Vanya had tossed her dark traveling cloak over one shoulder, her storm-gray eyes gleaming as she took in the vibrant energy of the Frostwell grounds.High on the dais, Alpha Asher was leaning back in his grand carved seat, his arm draped securely over Lydia’s waist as young Zane sat nearby, enthusiastically describing a practice maneuver to Alpha Mason. The moment Asher’s sharp blue eyes caught

  • Crown of Frost and Gold   Chapter 47

Dawn had not yet broken over the Frozen Spine when the grandfather clock in the corner of the lower map room chimed five times. The subterranean chamber was cold, smelling of old parchment, iron ink, and beeswax, illuminated only by a pair of heavy brass oil lamps casting long shadows across the central oak table.Silas sat at the head of the table, his dark hair neatly combed back, wearing a crisp linen shirt beneath a dark leather vest. Spread out before him were the grand topographic scrolls of the northern provinces. He had arrived at four-thirty, unable to pretend that sleep was ever going to come after their midnight meeting in the courtyard. The heavy oak door swung open precisely on the fifth chime.Captain Vanya stepped through the threshold, shedding her dark traveling mantle to reveal a sleek, form-fitting tunic of Ironwood slate gray. Her dark hair was tightly braided, her storm-gray eyes sharp and fully alert despite the ungodly hour. In her hand, she carried a tightly bo
