Just as Lia was leaving, Frost entered with the same pace she had used to come in.

His unsteady breath was proof that he was running from where he was coming from.

"Rya, we need your help. The pack is under attack by a deadly illness!" He announced. Panic etched in his voice.

"I don't understand..." I replied with arched brows.

"Please, you need to come with me quickly. The medical staff we have here don't know what this is about. They haven't seen or read about anything like this before."

"But

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 189: The Cost of the crown

Rya's POVWho was I kidding? Rebuilding the pack as I had poetically mentioned to Frost had grown beyond rebuilding shattered walls and fences as I did months back. The pack's policies were crumbled. Those poisonous aged men for elders had tried their best to introduce a new system of government worse than anarchy itself. They needed their words as the final authority, and needed a mind they could weave to their advantage. Hopefully, the mind they had tagged as vulnerable had sworn his loyalty to me and the throne, just as I did to him. Together, we began to expunge them out of whatever could give them any other leverage. I appointed new elders based on merits and loyalty, no more on tradition. Yet those who seemed so intertwined with tradition revolted, with an outrage that had become an everyday expectation to me. "You're talking matters into your hands," one of the elders who I had removed from the council spoke. His eyes were bold and furious, his voice was hoarse and deepen

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 188: Bonded Forever

Rya's POVI felt comfort at its best while I leaned on Frost. His body was warm, his hands were soft and tender, and his words were piercing yet soothing. He made me so vulnerable, and for the first time, it felt... like a good thing. I listened to his heartbeat while I gripped him tightly. It was so steady and calm—that mine had even begun to replicate his. I felt safe with him and didn't want to let go. His words echoed in my ears, coupled with the extra comforting ones which he continued to whisper into my ears. Right there, it was as though I could recall every single word he had ever assured me. I was reliving the instances when he peered at me passionately in the eyes—most times seated in the garden, other times in the room all to ourselves—reminding me that I was never alone. And for weeks, I never second thought about the earnestness of his words. Not until that moment. "I don't want to be scared anymore," I whispered to myself. "What?" He asked, pausing in the comfort

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 187: Just Be You

Frost's POV A lot had changed since the night Elder Theron made that shocking revelation. Rya had become a shadow of herself—turned icy cold to everything and everyone around her, including myself. The next morning, Elder Theron was going to be executed according to her strict order. It was a brutal experience that left me shivering at even the slightest reminisce. The air was thick and heavy. People gathered from every corner of the pack, standing shoulder to shoulder, whispering and murmuring among themselves as they had their eyes set on Theron who was locked in a pillory.Rya was present as well in the arena. She was dressed in a white cotton dress, with this perfect embroidery around the sleeves and a bodice that was well fitted. Her hair was neatly braided and styled, and her make-up was light. She was beautiful, but from afar, it felt as though she didn't think that way. Her face was tightly clenched as she stared at the crowd who gathered to watch. I could tell she still h

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 186: Conspiracies

Frost's POV "I don't know what they're talking about," Elder Theron argued. "I was just taking a walk before these men grabbed me. You have to believe me."His voice cracked. His eyes were wet and bold. He was sweating profusely, shivering as one who has seen a ghost. Yet his words betrayed him, especially with the disdainful look seated on Rya's face. She closed the distance between the both of them as quickly as a lightning bolt, and grabbed him by the shirt. She pulled him to herself, glaring at him in the eyes. "I have lost twenty five civilians in one night, five of which were children. And I know you know something about it. I don't mind sending you to the world beyond. And trust me, it is going to be a slow and painful transition. So start talking," she dragged the last few words emphatically. I had never felt that amount of cruelty coated in Rya's words. I had never seen her so furious, so irate. It was as though she would rip the world apart with her bare hands if she had

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 185: Sparks of War

Frost's POV"Urrrrrggg!" Rya tilted her neck sensually and let out a soft moan. Her voice rang melodiously in my ears, it was so difficult to resist. There was this tingle of excitement that ran up my spine as my gaze flew in her direction immediately. It baffled me how peaceful she had slept even when she was aware of an assassination attempt on her the previous night. But my curiosity peaked when I noticed a smile on her face. Did she have a pleasant dream?"Hey," her tone deepened as she greeted me.Her eyesight was getting clearer. I could tell from the not so numerous blinking of her eyes."Good morning," I greeted her."Did you..." She paused, pulled away from me and sat up as she stared at me with bold eyes this time around. "Were you up the entire night?""How could you tell?" I asked, with a slight chuckle escaping my lips."I know you're a stubborn type. Even if I didn't drag you to bed, you would have stayed up all night still. And your eyes were dark and swollen. You seem

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 184: Until Morning Comes

Frost's POV Rya and I shared our moments together, including our love and our worries but unlike other nights, my stay was short-lived. She had never asked me to stay even though she yearned for my presence. She needed solitude, and I needed something ever graver than that. I needed the kind of peace and quiet that could make my heartbeat literally echo in my ears—that could pave out ideas from my stormy mind.I returned to my chambers and laid there in the silence. My eyes were tightly shut, and I was hoping to quickly dive into my subconscious and forget the worries of the real world. But how could I rest when my heart was troubled? How could I sleep when danger lurked around, or clung like a shadow? I rumbled on the bed, several sighs and hisses escaping my lips in sheer frustration. It wasn't long before I threw my legs down the bed, grabbed a shirt and walked out of the room. I plodded through the hallway, down to the garden where I was met by the cool winds that blew in the
