Lila's POV

I didn't sleep.

Whenever I shut my eyes, I would see the face of Darren as he commanded me to be locked up. I kept on rephrasing what he said, hoping to have a different version where this would have a different ending. There wasn't one.

Being a witch was a thing that no one survived. The fact that it was a lie did not matter. When the word was uttered the pack would take blood. They always did.

I drew my knees to my chest. I thought of my parents. I questioned whether they would be disgraced by my being so helpless, or be hostile to Darren because of what he was.

Time passed slowly. I was sore in my body, which felt cold, my throat parched, my head aching with hunger and fear.

As at last footsteps came near me, I stood up.

The guards paused in front of my cell. One of them unlocked the door.

Darren stepped inside.

He looked rested. Clean. Unbothered.

I forced myself to my feet, and would not sit with him standing over me. “Have you come to kill me already?”

He stared at me a little, eyes dashing to and fro over my dirt-streaked face and shaking hands. "You still have a choice."

"I already gave you my answer."

He threw a sigh, as though it were I who was in the wrong. “I thought that a night down here would change your mind. Or would you like to be executed as a witch?”

"Witchcraft! Darren you are crazy."

His jaw tightened. "Watch your tone."

“You threatened to have me hanged, as a witch,” I replied.

“You may evade that,” he said. "Become a breeder, or die today."

My chest tightened. “You know what becomes of breeders in their country.”

“They bring up sons,” he replied.

"They die," I said. “Majority of them do not make it through pregnancy.”

“Be stronger than the rest, then,” said he without a moment of delay.

I looked at him, and unbelief was transformed into something stinging. "I'm your sister."

He laughed softly. “You ceased to be my sister when you were born without a wolf. Mom and dad never even acknowledged you as one of us. You’re a cursed, wolfless omega.”

The cold was nothing as hard as the words. "That's not my fault."

"No," he said, "but it's my problem. And now you're finally useful."

I took a deep breath to fight back the tears. “I have seen you tear up this pack. I swept up behind you. I remained silent as you drank and gambled away all the things our parents had made. And this is how you repay me?"

He came nearer, looming over me. “You do not get to talk to me in that manner. I'm the Alpha."

"You're a thief," I said. "And a coward."

His hand was so quick I had just time to react. He caught my chin and pushed my head up until we were looking in each other.

"Say it again," he warned.

I swallowed. I could hear my heart beating in my ears. "You're afraid," I said quietly. "That's why you did this."

His grip tightened. "I did this to save the pack."

"You did this to save yourself."

He threw me at the wall, like I nauseated him. "Enough."

I was trembling yet rebellious. "Kill me if you want. I won't go."

Something sinister was flashing in his eyes, not anger, but calculation, the first time.

"Very well," he said. “We will declare you to be executed in two hours time. The pack will gather. You'll be burned as a witch. But first, I’ll ensure you’re skinned alive, with rusted blades by the unskilled ones.”

My breath caught.

I imagined the pyre. The crowd. The pain. The certainty of death.

I was filled with fear and it was gripping me with each word. My body failed me even before my mind could follow suit.

"Wait," I said hoarsely.

He paused.

My hands clenched at my sides. All my instincts were crying to continue to say no, to struggle to the last. But I wanted to live. I was not ready to die screaming in the presence of my brother.

"I'll go," I whispered.

Darren turned slowly. "Say it clearly."

"I'll become the breeder," I said. My voice broke. "I'll go to the kings."

A contented smile covered his face. "Good."

“But you will pay the loan back, I said hastily. "You swear it. I shall not always be their property.”

He laughed. "You don't get to negotiate."

There was a silence between us.

"Get her out of here," he ordered.

The guards came back unlocking the cell.

First they brought me to the baths.

Servants rubbed my flesh raw and removed all the dirt and blood, and the scent of the dungeon.

After that, they dressed me.

I could hardly see myself as I got a glimpse of my reflection. Clean. Presentable. Ready to be delivered.

One of the servants brushed my hair and twisted it behind my back.

You will be taken to the border, one of them said lowly. The men of the kings will carry you away there.

I nodded numbly.

They led me into the main hall. Darren was waiting with crossed arms.

“You will remember the reason why you are there,” he said. "You will not embarrass me."

I didn't answer.

Scarcely had the guards gone to take me out when I heard what I thought were the rapid paces of some one heading my way up the corridor. One of the messengers came in, gasping, and dropped on his knee in front of Darren.

"My Alpha," he said. “A message of the kings of the Blackmoor.”

Darren straightened. "Speak."

“They will not send escorts,” the messenger said. "They are coming themselves. They shall come see their breeder and take her to their lands by themselves.”

The words were ponderous in the atmosphere.

My stomach dropped.

My heart clutched at the standstill.

They weren't waiting.

They were coming.

They were coming to get me.

  • Curse Of The Nine Tailed Luna    The Peace We Fought For

Lila’s POVOne week later, the pack felt like a completely different place. It was back to its fruitful days before Elena began her tyranny. There was a shift. Everyone of us knew this and felt it. Nothing had really changed on the outside of the pack. The buildings still stood the same. The trees still stretched high into the sky. The pathways, the gates, and the open grounds all looked exactly as they always had. Somehow a war didn't break out during all this time which was what I had thought would happen. Something shifted instead. It felt like the entire pack had been holding its breath for so long and had finally let it go. All those plotting to ruin the pack were gone and we were back to being peaceful.People smiled more now. They lived their life in joy. Guards carried out their duties without fear. The older members of the pack walked with calmness in their eyes, like they had been waiting for this peace for a very long time. They had been through everything and we had tri

The soft golden light slipped through the curtains and spread across my floor, illuminating and providing warmth in the room.Outside the room, the birds were already singing their morning songs, full of life and energy while perching in a tree far away from me. Inside the room, my baby boy made small soft sounds from his bed beside me. Jasper. Jasper's nice filled the room in the most beautiful and gentle way ever.I stayed in bed for a while, just listening to him. This was better than the choaos of life. I had to listening to him, enjoying the balanced frequency before footsteps filled the halls, before duties, meetings, and problems started pulling me in every direction. Lila’s POVA knock sounded outside my door. Marcus and Daniel were both seated besides me when the knock sounded. He bursted open, his chest rising and falling fast.“What happened?” Marcus inquired, confusion plastered on his face. The guard was still standing at the doorway, still trying to still his breath. His face looked pale, and his hands were shaking slightly, like he had seen something that scared him deeply. He kept swallowing, trying to steady himself, but it was clear he was still shaken.Marcus stepped forward, impatiently “Get a hold of yourself and talk to me.” he said calmly. But I knew that tone. I knew from the time of his voice that he wasn't being lenient. It was the kind of calmness that meant he was very serious. He had to know what had frightened the guard. The guard nodded quickly.“We were cleaning Elena’s dungeon cell,” he said. “After everything, we thought it was best to clear it out. One of the younger guards noticed something strange on the back wall… ri

  • Curse Of The Nine Tailed Luna   The Silence She Left Behind

Lila's POV Three days had passed since my baby boy came into the world. These three days were the best days of my life. I hadn't stepped outside the room since I gave birth. Everything I needed was brought to me. The warm food brought in by the maids every few hours. The alpha checked on me every hour making sure everything I needed was attended to. It was peaceful. It was the kind of peace that I have not experienced for so long…so long that I could not remember how long.My son slept most of the time. Maybe it was normal for newborns. Or maybe mine was just a sleeper. He would sleep, eat, they make small sounds, and they look at everything like it is brand new. He's brown soulful eyes were his most beautiful features and I felt he got it from the twin alphas. He was always interested whenever the alphas looked at him. And I guess it really is as it is mostly since the whole world is new when you have only lived for three days.I spent most of my time just watching him and making

  • Curse Of The Nine Tailed Luna   A week, four days later

Lila’s POV It started in the middle of the night. I wasn't expecting it to happen to me but it did. I was sleeping when a strong pain woke me up. The pain was so strong that I had to clench my teeth. It hit my belly so hard and fast that I sat up immediately and held, my heart racing wildly. I held the sheets, sweat dripping down my face. I looked around the room. It was quiet and dark. The pain came again, tighter this time. I almost screamed.I knew what it meant. Suddenly the bed I lay in was wet. I realized that my water just broke and that meant that the baby was coming tonight.I took a deep breath, just like the doctor told me. Then another. My hands were shaking, but I tried to calm myself. I knew I had to stay calm. You know how to overcome this.“You can do this, Lila,” I whispered to myself and took in a breath. With the little strength I have in may, I got out of the bed slowly and walked to Marcus’s room. I knocked on his door.Once.Twice.Three times.I knew that Mar

  • Curse Of The Nine Tailed Luna    The Last Judgment

Lila's POVThe day of Elena's verdict came on a Tuesday.I remember because the sky was very blue that morning. No clouds. Just big open blue sky that went on and on. I stood by my window and looked at it for a long time before I got dressed.Today was the day it all ended. Not just for Elena. But for me too. For everything she put me through. Every tear. Every hard day. Every moment I spent alone and cold and wondering what I had done wrong.Today all of that got to be finished.I got dressed slowly. I picked a simple dress. Nothing too fancy. I didn't need to dress up to make a point. I already knew who I was. I didn't need big clothes to remind anyone.Maria came in to help me with my hair. She was quiet and gentle and hummed a little song under her breath while she worked. I liked that. It kept the room from feeling too heavy."You okay?" she asked softly when she was done."Yes," I said. And I meant it. "I really am."Marcus came to walk me down.He knocked on my door and came in
