Lila's POV

I woke up expecting pain.

Not the acute type, not the fear, not even the regret, something solid and real to remind me that the night before had really passed. There was warmth, but my body was heavy, sore in parts I would rather not have to think of at that moment. The bed I was lying on was broad, and strange. The air smelled clean.

I lost track of where I was momentarily.

Then all at once memory came back and my eyes opened.

I turned my head slowly.

Daniel was lying asleep with his back turned to me on one side of the bed. Marcus was lying across on the other with one arm across his chest. They both appeared composed, serene. Mighty Alpha kings, lying there in bed, as nothing in life could awaken them.

I gulp and fidgeted, and my body was complaining with the action.

And all at once I recalled , I was marked last night by the two alpha kings!

I experienced a combination of feelings at that time, I was glad that I had managed to find my mate but I was saddened by the fact that they could decide that they do not want to follow the mate bond and keep me as a breeder, not a mate.

My hand went to my neck.

My fingers brushed bare skin.

No heat. No ache. No mark.

My heart skipped a beat.

"No," I whispered.

I rose too fast and disregarded the dizzy feeling, and ran to the mirror that was on the wall.

There was nothing there.

No twin bite marks. No bruises skin. No trace of my being taken possession of. No mate mark!

My breath came out shaky. "That's not possible."

I retreated just in time to see Daniel aroused. His eyes slowly opened, but blurred in the beginning, and then becoming clear as he beheld me standing before the mirror.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

I didn't answer. I was scared. How would they react?

"What happened?" Daniel requested the same, more sternly this time.

I just pointed at my neck. "The mate mark..." I started to say something and the words choked me.

He scowled and sat up, and came nearer. Marcus awoke with a jerk a few seconds later.

Daniel touched me, and tilted my chin. His fingers were hot on my flesh. He looked at my neck, his brows furrowed.

"Where is it?" he asked quietly.

Marcus moved nearer and looked at my throat. I saw his face turn, at first puzzlement, and then a sense of disbelief.

“No, this is impossible,” said Marcus. "I marked you."

"So did I," Daniel replied.

I crossed my arms to them. "It disappeared. I woke up and it was gone."

Silence filled the room.

“No that cannot happen,” said Marcus.

Daniel straightened. "It has never happened."

My stomach twisted. "What do you mean?"

Daniel looked at me. "A mate mark doesn't fade. Not overnight. Not ever."

Marcus stroked his hair and walked once around the room. “Unless the mate bond had been false.”

Daniel shook his head no. "It wasn't. I knew what I was doing! I know I felt something that made me mark her!”

They both stared at me at the time, as though they were trying to find something I was not able to provide.

“I did not do anything,” I said hastily. "I swear."

Marcus stopped pacing. "We know."

Daniel exhaled sharply. "This isn't your doing."

The atmosphere in the room became heavier. I might have been feeling it squeeze in, weighing and uncomfortable.

“This has never occurred to us,” Marcus said . "To anyone."

Daniel swiveled around to the door. "Send for the witch. Now."

Marcus nodded and put on a robe, walked to the door and instructed the guards outside to get the witch.

“Calm down.” Daniel said as he led me back to the bed, but I was not steady enough to do that. My hands were not able to cease shaking.

"What does this mean?" I asked.

Daniel was sitting opposite me in an upright position. "It means something is wrong."

“Whats wrong?” I asked, even though a thought of my curse being at work here crept up my mind, I tried to ignore it.

His gaze softened slightly. "We will find out what it is."

The witch came sooner than I had imagined.

She was more mature, dressed in black robes, and her eyes were keen. As soon as she entered the room, she stared at me.

"Ah," she said. "So it is you. The fated mate. Here at last.”

That didn't help my nerves.

Daniel gestured toward me. "Explain."

The witch approached slowly. Once she came round me with narrowed eyes. "You were marked."

"Yes," Marcus said. "Both of us."

“And now she is not any more,” the witch answered.

"Why?" Daniel demanded.

The witch raised a hand. “First, I have to be sure of something.”

She stopped in front of me. "Child, look at me."

I did.

Her eyes shone dimly when she put her fingers slightly below my collarbone. I flinched at the contact.

“Thou art their destined love,” she said.

Daniel's jaw tightened. Marcus exhaled sharply.

"We know, we felt it hence we marked her," Marcus said.

“You sure?” I asked, the same time Marcus spoke.

“Yes, there is no doubt child, you are the kings fated mate.” Said the witch. "The bond exists. Better than the majority I have seen.”

"Then why is the mark gone?" Daniel asked.

The witch darkened her features. "Because she is cursed."

The word dropped down in the room.

I felt cold all over.

“Cursed?” Daniel mumbled

“Yes, yes,” she said, and looked straight at me. "A binding curse. Old. Deeply rooted."

Marcus took a step forward. "What kind of curse?"

“One that denies saying,” the witch responded. "No wolf can mark her. There is no bond that can be anchored to the full extent.

Daniel tightened his hands into fists. "That's impossible."

"It is rare," she corrected. "Not impossible."

My voice came out small. "So... what does that mean for me?"

The witch sighed. “It is that you are rejected by your body in terms of mate marks. They will always fade."

Silence followed.

Marcus gave one sharp, humorless laugh. “You are telling me that goddess gave us a mate that we cannot claim.”

Daniel didn't laugh. His face was unreadable. "Can it be broken?"

The witch shook her head in slow time. “We mortals are mere slaves to the will of the goddess...”

  • Curse Of The Nine Tailed Luna    The Peace We Fought For

Lila’s POVOne week later, the pack felt like a completely different place. It was back to its fruitful days before Elena began her tyranny. There was a shift. Everyone of us knew this and felt it. Nothing had really changed on the outside of the pack. The buildings still stood the same. The trees still stretched high into the sky. The pathways, the gates, and the open grounds all looked exactly as they always had. Somehow a war didn't break out during all this time which was what I had thought would happen. Something shifted instead. It felt like the entire pack had been holding its breath for so long and had finally let it go. All those plotting to ruin the pack were gone and we were back to being peaceful.People smiled more now. They lived their life in joy. Guards carried out their duties without fear. The older members of the pack walked with calmness in their eyes, like they had been waiting for this peace for a very long time. They had been through everything and we had tri

The soft golden light slipped through the curtains and spread across my floor, illuminating and providing warmth in the room.Outside the room, the birds were already singing their morning songs, full of life and energy while perching in a tree far away from me. Inside the room, my baby boy made small soft sounds from his bed beside me. Jasper. Jasper's nice filled the room in the most beautiful and gentle way ever.I stayed in bed for a while, just listening to him. This was better than the choaos of life. I had to listening to him, enjoying the balanced frequency before footsteps filled the halls, before duties, meetings, and problems started pulling me in every direction. It was just me, my son, and the calm morning air. I knew I wanted this every day if my life till the ground became my home.I slowly reached my hand toward him. My finger tip touche

Marcus and Daniel were both seated besides me when the knock sounded. He bursted open, his chest rising and falling fast.“What happened?” Marcus inquired, confusion plastered on his face. The guard was still standing at the doorway, still trying to still his breath. His face looked pale, and his hands were shaking slightly, like he had seen something that scared him deeply. He kept swallowing, trying to steady himself, but it was clear he was still shaken.Marcus stepped forward, impatiently “Get a hold of yourself and talk to me.” he said calmly. But I knew that tone. I knew from the time of his voice that he wasn't being lenient. It was the kind of calmness that meant he was very serious. He had to know what had frightened the guard. The guard nodded quickly.“We were cleaning Elena’s dungeon cell,” he said. “After everything, we thought it was best to clear it out. One of the younger guards noticed something strange on the back wall… ri

  • Curse Of The Nine Tailed Luna   The Silence She Left Behind

Lila's POV Three days had passed since my baby boy came into the world. These three days were the best days of my life. I hadn't stepped outside the room since I gave birth. Everything I needed was brought to me. The warm food brought in by the maids every few hours. The alpha checked on me every hour making sure everything I needed was attended to. It was peaceful. It was the kind of peace that I have not experienced for so long…so long that I could not remember how long.My son slept most of the time. Maybe it was normal for newborns. Or maybe mine was just a sleeper. He would sleep, eat, they make small sounds, and they look at everything like it is brand new. He's brown soulful eyes were his most beautiful features and I felt he got it from the twin alphas. He was always interested whenever the alphas looked at him. And I guess it really is as it is mostly since the whole world is new when you have only lived for three days.I spent most of my time just watching him and making

  • Curse Of The Nine Tailed Luna   A week, four days later

Lila’s POV It started in the middle of the night. I wasn't expecting it to happen to me but it did. I was sleeping when a strong pain woke me up. The pain was so strong that I had to clench my teeth. It hit my belly so hard and fast that I sat up immediately and held, my heart racing wildly. I held the sheets, sweat dripping down my face. I looked around the room. It was quiet and dark. The pain came again, tighter this time. I almost screamed.I knew what it meant. Suddenly the bed I lay in was wet. I realized that my water just broke and that meant that the baby was coming tonight.I took a deep breath, just like the doctor told me. Then another. My hands were shaking, but I tried to calm myself. I knew I had to stay calm. You know how to overcome this.“You can do this, Lila,” I whispered to myself and took in a breath. With the little strength I have in may, I got out of the bed slowly and walked to Marcus’s room. I knocked on his door.Once.Twice.Three times.I knew that Mar

  • Curse Of The Nine Tailed Luna    The Last Judgment

Lila's POVThe day of Elena's verdict came on a Tuesday.I remember because the sky was very blue that morning. No clouds. Just big open blue sky that went on and on. I stood by my window and looked at it for a long time before I got dressed.Today was the day it all ended. Not just for Elena. But for me too. For everything she put me through. Every tear. Every hard day. Every moment I spent alone and cold and wondering what I had done wrong.Today all of that got to be finished.I got dressed slowly. I picked a simple dress. Nothing too fancy. I didn't need to dress up to make a point. I already knew who I was. I didn't need big clothes to remind anyone.Maria came in to help me with my hair. She was quiet and gentle and hummed a little song under her breath while she worked. I liked that. It kept the room from feeling too heavy."You okay?" she asked softly when she was done."Yes," I said. And I meant it. "I really am."Marcus came to walk me down.He knocked on my door and came in
