A MISSION AND A THREAT

JASMINE'S POV

The night wind blew through the open windows of the room. I took a deep breath, and snuggled under the blanket.

My eyes closed yet I couldn't fall asleep for reasons that I didn't understand.

Jamie was going to be treated, so why couldn't I enjoy this simple victory?

I thought of Tyler annoyingly, and how well he would be doing in the slimy hands of my step-sister which made my toes curl in disgust. He deserved to be punched in his face.

My eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness in the room, it was one of my perks after assassinating a lot of people in the middle of the night.

After minutes, my eyes would grow accustomed to the lack of light, giving me the chance to slit open the throats of my targets.

It was a moment of pure adrenaline, and with time, I had come to relish in it.

My hands trembled under the blanket, not because of the cold but because of the slight discomfort that came with murdering humans like myself.

Although my mind was immune, my body still reacted to those thoughts.

"Maybe Christopher would distract me," I murmured but that depended on if he actually came to sleep in here which u doubted.

Hours passed. Christopher didn't come in.

I couldn't sleep, and the cold got worse, even penetrating into the thick blanket.

"Where the heck is this man!?" I slightly raised my voice, and in that same moment, the door of the room flew open.

I stifled a surprised yelp, and closed my eyes before slowing down my breathing, trying my very best to pretend to sleep.

The sounds of footsteps made by highly expensive leather drew closer to my ears, and after a moment, I could feel the warmth of his presence close to me.

"Deep breaths Jass." I mentally encouraged myself to continue my pretentious act.

After a few minutes, I felt the cold air on my face, indicating that he was gone.

Yet I didn't move, because I could hear him taking off his clothes.

The other side of the bed dipped down as he settled in.

"Why was he in the same bed with me?"

Alarm signals rang out in my head.

'You are married to him? Don't you need a baby? Of course you'd be sleeping in the same bed. How else is he going to give you that hot seed?!'

A tiny voice at the back of my head answered my question.

I sighed inwardly. He had to sleep with me in order to give me his child.

I was starting to think the contract was a bad idea.

I heard a small whisper,

'Jamie.'

Ah yes. He was the reason for this, so I had to swallow up my thoughts, and go through with this.

I just couldn't fall in love with this man.

A low growl came from Christopher's lips as he turned around and placed his arm around me.

I held my breath, did I disturb his sleep?

Christopher's grip tightened and drew me closer to him.

"Christopher… "

I whispered trying to escape his iron hold, but when I turned my head around, I realized he was fast asleep, obviously not wanting to be disturbed.

I shifted my position to get myself comfortable but Christopher did something that sent my body into another realm.

He had nuzzled closer to me, directly breathing on my neck sending shivers through my skin.

I was trapped in a hot breathy mess.

A low hum from his snoring caused a vibration on my skin, making my stomach flip.

How could he be doing things to me while he was freaking asleep?

It wasn't fair.

My night went on like that till the next morning. I was able to get a bit of sleep when Christopher had shifted to the other side of bed, finally releasing me from his pleasurable torture.

I opened my eyes to see that the other side of the bed was empty.

"How long have I been asleep?"

A yawn escaped my lips as I stretched over the softness of the bed.

"Eleven am?"

I immediately rushed out of the tempting bed, and decided to dress up.

I had planned to discuss some things with Christopher today. I didn't want to miss him before he left for work but looking at the time, he had definitely gone for work.

"You had to sleep in on your first day, Jasmine." I said to myself.

The door to my room flung open, and I scrambled to cover up myself.

"I'm sorry Madame. I didn't know the Master had a visitor." She hurriedly bowed.

I was annoyed at her intrusion but it seemed like she didn't know

"I'm not a visitor. I'm his W… girlfriend." I turned away from her, unwilling to accept my new status.

"My sincere apologies, Madame. Can I help you with anything?"

I shook my head at her, and she turned to leave.

I wasn't really angry at her, it could happen to anyone.

I had to prepare to meet Christopher so I could explain some things for him.

The bathroom was pretty nice, and a bit too classy.

I had to admit that it was almost the size of the apartment I lived in with Ria.

My phone chimed the moment I stepped out of the bathroom.

It was a call from an unknown number, and I had a hunch who was calling. I placed the phone to my ears while rubbing away the water in my hair.

"Hello Shadow." The distorted voice sounded in my ears, bringing on a look of seriousness on my face.

"You are to go undercover, and get closer to Gustavo Lorenzo. The organization has a lead on him, and we need someone to spy on him."

A frown appeared on my face.

"I have an issue on my hand right now. After your so-called organization refused to help me, I had to help myself. I don't think I'd be able to do any job for you."

The organization had taken away my time, my body, and my mental health. However, when it was time for them to help, they had casted me away.

I wasn't going to just do their bidding like a little puppet. I was done.

The silence at the other end of the phone was nerve-wracking but I wanted to hear her sentence.

"I understand your plight, Shadow, but I understand that you wouldn't want the little help you out together for yourself to crumble all because of one little slip."

My breath hitched in my throat. It was a threat.

"What do you mean?" I stammered, trying to understand the full intentions of her words.

"You know fully well what I mean. With one word from me, everything you had ever built with your hands would come crashing back down." The distorted voice said.

I had expected all this to happen. My job never once had its good side, except for the money but now I had no choice.

The line went off without me saying anything because they already knew what I say.

I had no choice if I wanted my brother to live, and I also didn't want to spend the rest of my life in jail.

My fingers trembled as I ran them across my hair. I had to steady my breathing and stop myself from panicking.

The only thing left to do was their stupid job, and get them the hell out of my skin.

I opened my phone, and connected to the organization's dark net to search for more information on this Gustavo.

At this moment, I had no strength to fight them but to just do their bidding.

I wanted Jamie to get well before I did anything. It would be better that way.

As I scrolled through the deathboard, I realized that Gustavo wasn't even on the board but there was a name that was placed at the highest bid on the top slot.

Why on earth would anyone want Christopher killed?
