DUNCAN'S POV

A lot has changed these past few years— things I never thought I would face. The heir I thought Sophia, my new Luna, would give me... that child, that hope for the future of the Nightshade Lycan pack... it was lost. After six months of her being pregnant, the baby went aborted. The pain I felt was unlike anything before. It broke something inside me. I became angry— angry at the world, at fate, at myself. They started calling me the Angry Alpha. Maybe they were right. I was a different man after that.

Since then, Sophia and I have tried again and again. But no child has come. No heir. And because of this, I traveled far and wide, meeting seers and mystics from all corners of the world. Each one told me the same thing: There’s nothing wrong with me. I am strong. I have the power to lead this pack and to have an heir. But the truth— the bitter truth —they all said was this: I am not with the right wife.

That part haunted me. Who was the right wife? How did I make such a mistake choosing Sophia? I kept asking myself that question in the darkest moments of the night. It was maddening.

Then, things went from bad to worse. The Silent Night pack and I, we fought over territory. It started small but quickly grew into a terrible war. The fights went on for four long months— bloody, painful, and exhausting. And then, the curse came.

I remember the day like it was yesterday. The healers told me the curse was deadly. Only the blood of my heir could save me. Only my child’s blood could break this dark spell and heal me. That’s when the weight of my failure crushed me. How could I be healed when I had no heir? How could I break this curse when there was no child to save me?

Day by day, the curse drained my strength. No one knew about it— not my pack, not my council. If they did, they might think I was weak. They might want to vote me out or challenge my leadership. I am not ready for that. Not yet.

Then, one night, I saw her. Lyra. In my dreams. For five years, she was gone from my life— sent away, cast out. And now, here she was, coming back to me in my sleep.

I sought the advice of Kate, the most powerful seer in my pack. When I told her about Lyra and my dreams, she simply said, “She holds the key to your problem.”

I almost laughed at her. How could Lyra— a woman I believed barren, a woman I sent away— hold the key to my curse and my pain?

“Find out yourself,” Kate told me, and left the room without another word.

I didn’t take her seriously then. I was stubborn, angry, confused.

But this morning changed everything.

I went out hunting with some of my pack. We spotted a large deer— perfect prey. We moved quietly, ready to bring it down. Suddenly, I noticed someone else was hunting the same deer.

At first, everyone laughed when they saw it. A kid— smaller than the deer, barely big enough to hold a weapon— chasing after the huge animal like it was no problem.

They all thought it was foolish. But I didn’t.

I saw strength in that boy. I saw determination. I saw something I haven’t seen in a long time.

I took down the deer before the kid could. When he caught up to us, he didn’t back down. “That deer belongs to me,” he said, loud enough for everyone to hear.

I looked at him— and in that moment, I saw myself. His eyes held the same fire, the same stubbornness.

“Who are you?” I asked.

“Am Ryan. Prince Ryan,” he said, without hesitation.

I admired that courage. Most kids would have run away. Not him.

Jack, who was standing beside me, chuckled. “I haven’t heard that name before,” he said.

I asked again, “Where are you from?”

“That doesn’t matter. Just give me back my deer,” Ryan said, his tone firm.

Jack stepped forward, ready to teach the boy a lesson in respect. But I stopped him. There was something about this kid— something others couldn’t see.

I walked closer, keeping my voice calm. “Prince Ryan, it’s important we know where you come from. You are in the wrong territory. You don’t hunt in another pack’s land without permission. Your parents should have told you that.”

Ryan didn’t flinch. “I know I’m in the wrong territory, but the deer ran here.”

I already knew what pack he was from. The Blood Moon pack. They share borders with us at this angle. What really mattered was not where he came from but why he looked exactly like me.

I asked him carefully, “What’s the name of your Alpha?”

“My mother is the Alpha,” Ryan answered.

I knew a woman led the Blood Moon pack, but I never cared to learn her name. Now, I had to know.

“What’s her name?” I pressed.

“Alpha Lyra Wilder,” he replied.

My world shattered.

There was only one Lyra Wilder I knew— the Luna I sent away five years ago. The woman I still thought of, the one I dreamed about. The one who held my heart.

Suddenly, everything clicked.

Lyra wasn’t lying when she said she was pregnant all those years ago.

She was the right wife the seers told me about.

I felt a sudden rush of hope and happiness.

Finally, I would be healed. Finally, I would have my heir— the blood that could save me from the curse.

And I would do anything to have Lyra back.

---

It was hard to believe. After all this time, after the pain and the mistakes, there was still a chance. A chance to fix everything.

Instantly I started loving her again.

Seeing Ryan made me realize what I lost. What I threw away.

I saw my own strength in that boy, his courage, his stubbornness. He carried my blood— and with him, the hope for our pack.

I knew what I had to do.

Lyra was the key to everything.

And I was going to make her mine again, no matter the cost.

---

The anger inside me began to fade. The curse that drained me day by day no longer felt like a death sentence. There was light at the end of the tunnel.

I have an heir.

And I have the woman I should have never let go.

The pack needs me strong. I will be strong.

For them.

For Lyra.

For the future.

...

Today hunting with Ryan marked a turning point.

I will fight to reclaim what was lost.

Because the right wife was never Sophia.

She was Lyra.

And I’m ready to do whatever it takes to bring her home.

  • DESIRED BY MY LYCAN EX AND THE BETA   Chapter 7: CAUGHT STARING AT MR. HANDSOME

LYRA'S POV My head kept twirling and turning as I headed for my room. It was quite unsual, what happened today. It wasn't every day someone saw the very person who changed their life forever, thankfully for me Duncan's cruelness was a blessing in disguise, I had him to thank for that. I opened the door to my room and stepped inside. “Why are you here, Julie?” I asked my made confusion shrouding my features. She wasn't supposed to be here especially not at this time. “Uh, I jus, I just made your bed.” She stuttered scratching her head furiously with the tip of her fingers. “But it's not even dusk yet.” I pointed out. “Are you in a hurry to go somewhere?” I asked, the behaviour she was putting on was really strange and if I was being honest, I was beginning to get scared myself. “I know but I have to leave immediately, Alpha, I'm sorry.” She shuffled me out of the way, reaching for the door but not before I could hold her by the hand and yank her ba

LYRA'S POV My whole world tilted as I stared at the man who had saved my son. The rush of painful memories I had tried so hard to bury slammed into me like a tidal wave. I nearly lost my balance, but Thorne was quick— steadier than ever— his arms reaching out just in time to hold me firmly by his side."Are you okay?" he asked gently.I gave a small nod, though my mind was still spinning. I hadn't even begun to process the situation."Thank you," I muttered, fully aware of how humiliating it would've been if I had collapsed on that floor."My pleasure," he replied with a grin— one so warm and disarming it almost made me forget the tension thick in the air.Carefully, I stepped away from Thorne, creating a bit of distance without seeming rude. Only then did I fully acknowledge Duncan."Alpha Duncan," I greeted with a perfectly measured smile. "It's quite unfortunate we had to meet under such circumstances because I, uh, I..." Lying was never my strength, and right now it was failing m

  • DESIRED BY MY LYCAN EX AND THE BETA   Chapter 4: PA PROBLEMS & PACK PANIC

LYRA'S POV Five years later, Being an Alpha can be a shit load of work and responsibilities. And being a mother is even worse. Nobody warned me about how children can be even tougher than adults. My Ryan is the definition of "hard nut to crack". He's so stubborn to the extent that many pack members fear him. Only, my beta, Thorne can properly contain his stubbornness. A smile crawls up my face as the thoughts of Thorne crosses my mind. I snap out of my thoughts as I hear the door open. Speak of the devil. There he is, Thorne, looking as handsome as ever, carrying a tray of dishes in his hand. My smile widens as he sets down the tray before me. "Why are you the one doing mundane tasks for me? Have the maids all suddenly disappeared??" I ask him. "Probably." He teases, then adds, "I just wanted to be the one to serve you after a long day of meetings. You deserve that much pampering from someone after all the manly duties you have to do. And luckily, I happen to fit t

  • DESIRED BY MY LYCAN EX AND THE BETA   Chapter 3: "HOW TO GET KICKED OUT AND STILL SLAY"

LYRA'S POV Realization hits me hard now. Sophia is at work Again. That sly bitch! Now, I can't be more sure that she wants me dead. "I didn't do it!" I almost cry. "Why would I want to poison Sophia? Please, believe me!" "Believe you?" Duncan scoffs. "I warned you, but you didn't listen. You poisoned someone who is pregnant with the future lycan king! That's treason!!" Tears stream down my face now. "No, this is a set-up! It's all Sophia's scheme. I even tasted the concoction before she took it." Duncan doesn't look convinced at all. "So, the pack doctor lied? Your concoction was the last thing Sophia took. Do you think your tears will move me? No! You went too far!" "No, Duncan—" "Guards!" He grits out, silencing me. "Take the traitor to the dungeon. Tomorrow, her fate will be decided!" The guards drag me to the dungeon then lock me in. Everyone knows the usual fate of anyone accused of treason. Death! Will Duncan really kill me tomorrow? I wonder as I lay down on

  • DESIRED BY MY LYCAN EX AND THE BETA   Chapter 2: “ROYAL SHIRT, ROYAL NONSENSE”

LYRA'S POV Few minutes later, I'm at the hospital, sitting before the doctor's desk and tapping my fingers nervously on my lap. Even after Alexa's advice, I still wasn't convinced. Well, not until the puking got worse. I just can't help but wonder if I have a terminal disease. My pulse quickens as I hear the door creak open and the doctor crosses the room to his desk, holding a report in his hand. A smile is lurking around his lips and a frown immediately appears on my face. "Congratulations, Luna! You are two weeks pregnant!" He says as soon as he's sitting. For a split second, I struggle to process the words. I am pregnant? How? Why now? Myriads of emotions course through me. If this was yesterday, I will surely be over the moon, but now that Duncan has suddenly brought in another woman, I really don't know if I should be happy or sad. So many questions compete for attention in my head that it starts to ache. "Thank you, doctor." I manage before rushing out of the

  • DESIRED BY MY LYCAN EX AND THE BETA   Chapter 1: HORMONES & HEARTBREAK

LYRA'S POV Every inch of me is frozen as I’m unable to digest everything playing out before me. First I woke up this morning and my royal bath was unattended. And now the maids are telling me there’s a new Luna? "The Alpha instructed us to prepare the bath for the new Luna. He says her needs should be prioritized." Is what Arabella told me when I asked why my bath hasn’t been attended. A new Luna! When I'm not dead? "What— what are you on about?" I finally finds my voice but it still wobbles a bit. "You mean, the Alpha is home?" "Yes, Luna. You slept a bit too early to see the Alpha bring the new Luna in. They are both in the chambers now." My stomach constricts as I struggle to process the words. Duncan is in his chamber— our matrimonial chamber with another woman? I can’t even imagine Duncan doing that. This isn’t the first time Duncan had been away for some official Assignments but each time he returns, my chamber is the first place
