Janet's Point of View

Flora's mouth hung open as she stared at me. She blinked several times, like she was trying to clear her vision.

"You... work here?" she muttered, but I caught every word.

I closed the door behind me and walked calmly to my desk, setting my purse down. My heart was racing, but I kept my face neutral, professional.

"Yes, I do," I replied evenly. "I'm a certified counselor."

Flora's eyes narrowed. "Since when? Why haven't you ever said anything about it? About being a... a consultant?"

I couldn't help but chuckle at that. After all the times she'd belittled me, made me feel small and stupid, here she was—shocked to discover I had qualifications, a career.

"There are a lot of things you don't know about me, Flora," I said, sitting down behind my desk. "But that's not important right now. If you're not comfortable having me as your therapist, I can help you get assigned to someone else. Dr. Martinez would be happy to—"

"No," Flora cut in quickly, almost too quickly.

  • DIVORCED, BUT SPOILED BY MY FIVE BROTHERS    Chapter 0025

Rowan's Point of ViewI wasn't meant to say all this, but the image of that guy holding Janet is almost destroying me from the inside. The urge to punch something is driving me crazy from within."Isn't it why you haven't come home?" I said, my voice sharper than I intended. "Because someone else claims they love you and they come outside to show it?"Janet looked at me like I had lost my mind. "You sound delusional, Rowan. You need to go see your doctor."I chuckled, but it wasn't a good laugh. "I need to see a doctor?" I repeated. "Janet, when did you even become a doctor? We've been married for three years, and you never said anything about being a mental health doctor. And look at this—this is not the wife I know I married.""Oh, come on, Rowan," Janet said, staying firm in her seat. "You never knew what I'm capable of."My hands clenched into fists. "You claim I don't know you? Do you want me to really expose you out there? Wow, I don't know, it's even easier nowadays to fake car

  • DIVORCED, BUT SPOILED BY MY FIVE BROTHERS    Chapter 0024

Rowan's Point of ViewI sat at my desk, staring at the computer screen. The numbers on the spreadsheet blurred together. My mind wasn't on work—it was on Janet. Where was she? Why hadn't she come home? I thought telling her about Grandma's birthday would at least make her show up, but nothing.A noise from outside my office made me look up. Voices in the hallway. Flora was talking to someone, her voice high and upset."I need you to deal with this clinic!" she was saying. "They are completely unprofessional!"This was the third time I'd paid for Flora to see a therapist, and none had worked out. But wanting to shut down an entire clinic? That seemed too much.A calmer voice replied, trying to soothe her. I recognized it—Alex, my assistant."Ms. Reynolds, please calm down," Alex said. "We can investigate the matter and handle it properly.""No!" Flora's voice got louder. "That clinic needs to be sued! They let their staff harass patients!"I stood up, annoyed. I hated noise in my offic

  • DIVORCED, BUT SPOILED BY MY FIVE BROTHERS    Chapter 0023

Janet's Point of ViewI stood stunned in Elena's doorway, watching as Edward stepped forward beside me. I never expected him to defend me like this. Flora clearly thought I would be fired on the spot—the look of shock on her face was almost worth the whole ordeal. I bit my lip to hold back a smile, thinking how funny it was that she didn't realize Edward was just a client, not someone in charge."Ms. Martinez," Flora said, her voice suddenly soft and trembling. She dabbed at her eyes with a tissue. "I came here seeking help, but Janet was so harsh with me. So judgmental. I opened up about my grief, about my feelings, and she..." Flora's voice broke dramatically, "she attacked me."I kept my face neutral, though inside I was rolling my eyes. Flora's victim act was so familiar—I'd seen it countless times before.Edward cleared his throat. "I think you should drop the act, Ms. Reynolds. It doesn't suit you."Flora's head snapped up, tears miraculously gone. "Excuse me?""Being harsh and

Janet's Point of ViewJasper pulled up to the entrance of Westside Clinic, his car purring like a content cat. I gathered my bag and smiled at my brother."Thanks for the ride," I said. "I should really start driving myself soon."Jasper grinned, his eyes crinkling at the corners just like mine do. "No rush. It's my pleasure to do so and also I like our morning talks.""Me too." And I meant it. These small moments with my newfound family were precious to me."I'll pick you up at five?" he asked.I nodded. "Perfect."As I walked through the clinic doors, several staff members smiled and waved. It had only been a few days, but word had spread quickly about how I'd helped Edward Jones—the patient no one could reach. Somehow, I'd become the counselor who could handle the "tough cases."I headed straight to Dr. Elena Martinez's office. She'd texted me earlier, asking to see me before my first appointment. When I knocked on her door, her warm voice called out, "Come in!"Elena looked up fro

Rowan's Point of ViewI tried Janet's number again, my finger pressing the call button harder than needed. Three hours I've been doing this. Three whole hours of nothing but her voicemail. My hand shook slightly as I reached for my glass, taking a long sip of whiskey. The burn in my throat matched the anger building inside me."Come on, Janet," I muttered, dialing again. "Pick up the damn phone."Ever since I found out Janet's mother had been moved from the hospital—without my knowledge or permission—everything had been falling apart. I pressed call again, expecting the same robotic voice telling me the number wasn't available. But this time, it rang.My heart jumped in my chest. I sat up straighter, nearly spilling my drink. It rang once, twice, three times... then connected."Finally, you pick up!" I rushed to say, the words tumbling out before she could even speak. There was a pause on the other end, then Janet's voice—cold and distant, like a stranger's."What do you want, Rowan?
