The minute Ryan saw me, he stood up like we were in a fairytale. Walked straight toward me, pulled me into a hug, kissed my forehead, then guided me to the seat right between him and his mother, like he was the perfect gentleman.

Like he wasn’t the man orchestrating my downfall. Like he wasn’t living with his mistress in our home. Like he wasn’t building a second life behind my back.

I took the seat. I didn’t want to cause a commotion, not tonight. Not when everything already felt so fragile.

The moment I sat down, Ryan followed, sliding into the chair beside me like we were still that couple everyone admired. He reached for my hand, kissed it gently, and leaned in close to whisper,

“You look so lovely. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in the entire world.”

I gave him a tight smile in return.

Normally, I would have blushed. I would have soaked in the compliment, let it wash over me like a balm. But now? Now it felt… hollow. Like a performance. Like he was trying too har

The Bennetts houseRyan mulled over his mother’s words before nodding slowly.“Fine. You're right,” he admitted. “I wonder if we would’ve even lasted ten years if Monique had hated me from the start. She admired me. She loved me. She believed in me. I’d say jump, and she’d ask how high.” He chuckled darkly. “Those were the easiest ten years of my life… while I fucked her over—and fucked her too, quite literally and vigorously.”A smug grin spread across his face.“But I’m done playing the fool in love. I’m not doing that anymore.”“It’s fine,” Mrs. Bennett replied calmly. “I’ll talk to Monique. I’ll create the environment for her to come back to you. In fact, she’ll be the one to apologize... Don’t worry.”“I’d really like it if she got on her knees when she did,” Ryan added, eyes narrowing with spite.Mr. Bennett scoffed. “Won’t she already be on her knees… sucking your cock while she begs?”“Okay, enough!” Mrs Bennett snapped, shooting her husband a sharp look. “Crude words to your

The Bennett's HouseRyan walked swiftly through the front doors of his parent's home, his pace unrelenting as he headed straight toward his father’s study, his father’s office.Mr. and Mrs. Bennett were already waiting there, anticipating the outcome of the evening’s plan. They had placed their hopes high on tonight’s late-night stroll, believing it would be the one that bent Monique back into their control. Mrs. Bennett, especially, was nearly giddy with expectation, certain that her little plan had worked. But the moment Ryan entered the house, the look on his face stopped her short.Without saying a word, Mr. and Mrs. Bennett exchanged a silent, knowing glance, then followed their son down the hallway. The heavy door to the office closed behind them with a quiet thud.Ryan made no effort to acknowledge them. He went straight for the drinks cabinet, poured himself a generous glass of whiskey, and tossed it back like water.Mr. Bennett took a seat in front of the desk, watching his s

Ryan's face dropped. That confident smirk he’d been holding onto faltered, just a flicker but I saw it. I felt it. For the first time, Ryan didn’t know what to say. He looked stunned, and confused, like he didn’t know whether to be offended, defensive, or terrified.“You don’t mean that,” he finally muttered, but his voice was weaker now, unsure.I tilted my head slightly. “Oh, but I do. I mean every word.”He took a step toward me, his hands raised, like that would calm me. Like that would undo everything he’d said. “Monique, you’re upset. I get it. I expected this reaction, but we can move past it. You always think things through after you cool down. You always come back.”“No, Ryan. You always counted on me coming back. And you were right… for a long time, you were right. I always chose us, even when you didn’t. Through everything... I chose this marriage. I chose you. But I didn’t know I was choosing a man who could look a woman in the eye while planning to rip her children out o

I stared at him.For a moment, I wasn’t even breathing. Then the fury rose, slow and deadly like lava.“You planned this?” I asked, voice shaking but sharp. “You actually sat down and mapped out a life where another woman births your children, nurses them, and then what? You dispose of her like trash?”He blinked. “I didn’t mean it like that....”“No! Don’t you dare backtrack now,” I snapped. “You meant every word. You opened your mouth and told me that my pain, my body, my womanhood, is an inconvenience to your fantasy. You’re disgusting.”I stood up, chest heaving.“You said you were protecting me. What a joke. No, Ryan. You weren’t protecting me. You were preserving your lie. Your image. Your selfish, controlling fantasy where everyone just plays their part so you can have your perfect life.”His mouth opened. I raised my hand.“Don’t. Speak.” I said taking a deep breath,“You know what hurts the most?” I whispered. “It’s not the cheating. It’s not even the children.”His eyes sear

I was begging.“Please. Have you ever loved me?”“Of course I have. Of course, I do!” Ryan snapped, his voice rising. “What kind of question is that?”His eyes searched mine, desperate, angry, pleading all at once.“Look at me and say I don’t love you...I dare you. I married you. You’re right... I’ve known Ariana for years. She was our neighbour. I dated her when we were teenagers, yeah. But that means nothing. The moment I met you...saw you, I knew you were the one. If I loved her, if I wanted her, I would’ve married her.” He snapped his fingers. “Just like that. She would be my wife. But she’s not.”He looked at me, breath heavy.“She’s not, because I love you. I married you. I want you.”Before I could make sense of it, he dropped to his knees. Right there in front of me.“I’m sorry, baby. I’m so sorry. My beautiful, beautiful wife…” His voice cracked. “You’ve been faithful to me. You’ve loved me. You’ve supported me when I didn’t deserve it. You’ve been my number-one cheerleader.

We reached the gazebo, and before I could even sit down, Ryan launched into this whole performance of wiping the bench, brushing off invisible dust, straightening things that didn’t need straightening. I stood there, arms folded, waiting as he cleaned the seat like it was some royal throne. With a small huff, I finally sat. He gave me a look, half exasperated, half hopeful before lowering himself beside me.We were quiet for a moment. The kind of silence that doesn’t feel peaceful. It felt like a storm was coming. And then, he spoke.“Monique, I want you to think about all the years we’ve been married,” he began. His voice was soft, too measured. “I want you to remember how we met. How we felt... I want you to remember why you said yes to me. Why you chose me.”He paused. I didn’t say a word.“I want you to remember how I never left your side. How I always gave you everything you wanted. How I supported you. How my family welcomed you. We were there when you lost your father. I never
