Nate Davidson

Slowly, I turned around, squinting through the dim parking lot lights. Standing near a parked black SUV was a guy with sharp, quiet features and messy dark hair.

Nate Davidson.

One of Aaron’s inner-circle gang. But unlike Reed or the other loud jocks, Nate always seemed different. He was the quietest of the five guys,Aaron, Reed, Hayes, and himself. He rarely spoke up in class, kept to himself mostly, and wasn't nearly as loud or obnoxious as the others.

Wait. Was Nate just now arriving at the party when it was already completely over? Or had he been hiding out upstairs the whole time?

I sized him up quickly, pulling the oversized hoodie tighter around my shoulders.

"Uhh... well..." I stammered, trying to find my voice. "Yeah, they... they surely are his."

Nate raised an eyebrow, stepping closer under the amber glow of the parking lot light. He didn't look drunk at all. In fact, his eyes were sharp, calm, and entirely sober.

"Care to explain why you're walking out of Aaron's penthouse wearing his favorite jacket and singlet at three in the morning?" Nate asked, crossing his arms over his chest with a faint, amused smile playing on his lips.

I felt my cheeks burn hot. I couldn't tell him the truth, that I had just slapped Aaron across the face after a wrestling match in the bedroom.

"He... um, he lent me his clothes because mine got... you know... stained," I lied quickly, gesturing vaguely to my front. "I'm kind of on my woman thing, if you catch my drift. Total emergency."

Nate’s expression instantly switched from mild amusement to complete, respectful understanding. He lowered his arms, nodding slowly.

"Ah. Say no more. Got it," Nate said smoothly, not pressing me any further or making fun of me the way Reed or Aaron would have.

Instead, a quiet, easy smile touched his face.

"You know, Jessica," Nate said softly, stepping a little closer. "I'd actually like to be friends with you. If I didn't know anything else about you, at least I'm damn sure of one thing: you're a massive fan of Burna Boy."

My eyes went wide in surprise. "How on earth do you know that?"

Nate chuckled, shoving his hands into his pockets. "My cousin is an absolute freak for his music. She won't stop talking about him, and I saw your playlist playing in Isabella's car last week when you guys parked near the library. Plus, you wear his merch. It wasn't hard to put two and two together."

I let out a breath of genuine surprise. I didn't need any more introduction after that. Without thinking twice, I pulled my phone out.

"Here," I said, holding my screen out. "Give me your phone."

Nate blinked, pulling his own phone out of his pocket and handing it over. I quickly tapped my number into his contacts, saved my name as Jessica, and handed it right back.

"There," I said, offering a small, real smile. "Add me on W******p later."

"Will do, Ice Queen," Nate replied, saving my contact with a grin.

It blew my mind a little bit. Nate Davidson was Aaron's best friend, right behind Roonie, Reed, and Hayes. Aaron was the undisputed head of their little squad, and while all of them were undeniably handsome, Aaron was always voted the hottest and most dangerous. Nate, on the other hand, had never spoken a single word to me before tonight. He was the most reserved guy in the entire group.

Sure, it was wild that he knew my favorite artist out of nowhere, but right at that moment, it felt kind of nice to know that someone besides Isabella actually paid attention to the things I loved.

I turned back around, lifting my phone to finally press the button to order my rideshare home.

Before my thumb could hit the screen, Nate stepped up beside me.

"Put the phone away, Jessica," Nate said gently, pointing toward his black SUV parked right by the curb. "You're not taking a random cab at this hour looking like that. Let me take you home."

I hesitated, looking up at him through the dim light. "Nate, you don't have to—"

"I want to," Nate insisted smoothly, unlocking the doors with a beep. "Come on. Let's get you home before the sun comes up."

For the first time all day, I didn't feel like I was walking into a trap. I let out a long, shaky breath, dropped my phone back into my pocket, and walked over to the passenger side of Nate's car.

Maybe tonight wouldn't end in complete disaster after all.

  • DOOM AT THEIR DOORS: TALES OF ILLICIT LONGINGS    Let me go!

The thin silk of my dress ripped with a sharp, ugly tear."Hey! Let me go!" I gasped, thrashing beneath him as Aaron's hand shot out with terrifying strength, grabbing one of my bare breasts right through the torn fabric. He didn't hesitate. Before I could even swing my arm to hit him, Aaron leaned down, his mouth latching onto my other breast while his fingers pinched and rolled the sensitive skin of the first. A hot, traitorous shiver shot straight down my spine, making my breath catch in my throat."Stop it! Get off me, Aaron!" I screamed, shoving my hands against his chest with all my might. But it was like trying to push a brick wall. For being completely drunk just five minutes ago, Aaron suddenly possessed a terrifying, overwhelming strength. The alcohol seemed to have turned him into an aggressive animal. The harder I pushed, the rougher he got, determined to completely subdue me.With a swift, practiced movement, he grabbed both of my wrists, pinned them firmly against the ma

Disgust rose hot and fast in the back of my throat. The table erupted into howling laughter, catcalls, and wolf whistles.I didn't even blink. I stood up from my chair so fast it scraped loudly against the marble floor."I'd rather commit suicide than put my mouth anywhere near him," I snapped coldly.Without waiting for anyone to speak, I reached across the table, grabbed a full glass of clear, high-percentage vodka, lifted it to my lips, and slammed the entire thing down my throat in one long, burning gulp. The alcohol hit my stomach like a ball of fire, making my eyes water, but I slammed the glass back down on the wood with a sharp clack. The table went wild, cheering and clapping at my bold move. But the shot seemed to trigger something in Aaron. He suddenly stood up, his dark eyes flashing with a reckless, dangerous energy. Without saying a word, Aaron started grabbing shot glasses, slamming them back-to-back, drinking faster and harder than anyone else in the room.Within twent

  • DOOM AT THEIR DOORS: TALES OF ILLICIT LONGINGS    Dare you to give him a blowjob

My phone buzzed against the bedside table. I picked it up, my heart doing a nervous little flip, and saw the text message from an unknown number. The Grand Azure Hotel. Penthouse suite. Don't keep me waiting, Ice Queen. It was the address. Aaron had sent it.I sat there on the edge of my bed for a long moment, staring at the screen. My mind was spinning. I knew walking into that hotel was walking straight into the lion's den. I knew Aaron was dangerous, manipulative, and completely unpredictable. But I also knew I couldn't live another second with that black-mail video hanging over my head like a suicide rope.I stood up, determined. I needed to put an end to this nightmare, once and for all.I walked quietly out of my bedroom, tiptoed down the hallway, and slipped into the kitchen. Opening one of the high cabinets where Mrs. Cosmos kept household safety supplies, my hand wrapped around a small, heavy canister of pepper spray. I slid it deep into the pocket of my jeans. Self-defense.

  • DOOM AT THEIR DOORS: TALES OF ILLICIT LONGINGS    Stop!.....

"Jessica Conway!" “Stop right there!”The voice rang out from the shadows behind me like a gunshot.I froze instantly. My heart slammed hard against my ribs, nearly leaping out of my chest. It was a male voice, sharp and commanding. Panic flooded my veins. How on earth did anyone recognize me in this baggy hoodie and face mask?Who was it? And what did they want with me?My first instinct was to run. I was only a few yards away from the heavy security gates of my estate. If I just sprinted, I could make it inside before whoever was behind me could catch up.But then the voice called out again, cutting off my escape."Aaron Adams said to give you this!"The name hit me like a physical blow. I stopped dead in my tracks, my sneakers glued to the pavement. Slowly, reluctantly, I turned around to face the darkness.Emerging from beneath the low-hanging branches of a massive oak tree was a tall guy with slicked-back blonde hair and a cocky, knowing grin. As he stepped closer into the dim a

  • DOOM AT THEIR DOORS: TALES OF ILLICIT LONGINGS    Kiss me goodbye

"Dad? Dad, are you still there?" I called out again, my voice tight and trembling slightly as I stared at the glowing screen of my phone. There was a strange, rustling sound on the other end of the line. It sounded like expensive papers shuffling, followed by the muffled, businesslike murmur of people talking in hushed tones in a high-rise office somewhere across the ocean. My father mumbled something very quickly, words I couldn't quite catch, about how an unexpected board meeting had just blown up, and that he would have to call me back later when things calmed down. Before I could even ask a single question, the line went completely dead.Beep. Beep. Beep. The call was over. He had hung up.I sat frozen in the passenger seat of the sedan, staring blankly at the dark screen. My mind was racing a mile a minute. What on earth did he mean by that weird comment about my mother? Why did my dad sound so nervous and cagey?"Hey, you okay?" Isabella asked softly, breaking me out of my daze.
