Chapter 2

Aria

I had been walking aimlessly, trying to keep my blood moving, but the cold was winning. My feet were numb blocks of ice inside my ruined shoes. My eyelashes were heavy with frost.

I collapsed next to a hollowed-out tree trunk, shivering so hard my teeth rattled.

"I’m sorry," I whispered to my stomach. "I’m so sorry."

Then, something hit me.

It wasn't a cramp. It felt like a hook sinking into my spine and pulling. I gasped, falling over in the snow as a wave of heat seared through my freezing body.

"No," I panted, watching my breath cloud in the air. "Not yet. You’re too small. It’s too soon."

But the pressure didn't stop. It intensified.

I looked down at my hands clutching my stomach. To my horror, I could see the movement beneath the fabric of my dress. My belly wasn't just hard; it was surging.

'It’s dying,' a terrifying instinct whispered in my mind. 'or the baby knows the cold is killing us. It’s forcing its way out to survive.' another voice whispered.

In the old legends of the pack, they spoke of "True Alphas", children born with so much raw power that they could accelerate their own growth in times of crisis. They burned through the mother’s life force like fuel to save themselves.

I screamed as another contraction shattered my pelvis. It felt like my very life was being sucked out of my veins, pooling into my womb.

My vision blurred, grey spots dancing in front of my eyes. I was fading. He was taking everything I had left.

"Take it," I gasped, leaning my head back against the frozen bark. tears froze instantly on my cheeks. "Take it all. Just live."

The wind roared, drowning out my cries. I was eighteen, alone in the Dead Lands, with no doctor, no towels, and no mate. I only had the ice.

One final, earth-shattering push, and the pressure released.

Silence.

I slumped forward, panting.

There was no cry.

Panic, colder than the snow, seized my heart. I reached down with trembling, numb fingers. I pulled the small bundle up to my chest, wrapping him in the tattered remains of my skirt to shield him from the wind.

"Please. Please, don't be silent. Cry. Scream. Anything." I whispered, rubbing his tiny, purple back.

I brushed the blood and vernix from his face. He was tiny, but perfect. Ten fingers. Ten toes. A tuft of jet-black hair.

And then, his eyes opened.

I gasped.

They weren't blue like Lucas’s. They weren't brown like mine.

They were Violet.

A glowing, electric purple that seemed to glow with power, illuminating the dark hollow of the tree.

He didn't cry, but looked at me. His gaze was ancient, and terrifyingly intelligent.

"You..." I whispered, stroking his freezing cheek. "What are you?"

*Thwup-thwup-thwup.*

A sound suddenly came from up. The snow around me began to swirl violently, whipped up by a massive downdraft.

A spotlight blinded me from above.

I squinted up, shielding the baby’s eyes. A black helicopter, was descending onto the frozen plain. It didn't have the markings of the police or the Silver Moon Pack.

It had a symbol painted on the side, but I couldn't see it clearly.

Men in black gear jumped from the skids before it even touched the ground. They moved with unnatural speed, their heavy boots crunching on the ice as they surrounded me.

"Stay back!" I screamed, curling over my baby. "Don't touch him!"

A man in a black helmet reached me first. He didn't speak and simply reached down for my son.

"No!" I shrieked. Adrenaline gave me one last burst of strength. I bit the soldier’s gloved hand, tasting the leather and dirt.

He didn't flinch and instead backhanded me across the face.

Ah!

My head snapped back, stars exploding in my vision. The world spun dizzily.

"Secure the asset," a distorted voice commanded from his radio.

"The mother?" the soldier asked, looking down at me.

"Leave her. She's drained. She won't survive the night."

Another man knelt beside me. I tried to scratch him, to fight, but my limbs felt weak. He pulled out a syringe and plunged it into my neck.

Cold spread through my veins instantly. My muscles unlocked. My grip on the baby loosened against my will.

I watched, paralyzed, as the soldier lifted my son into the air.

The baby didn't cry. He stared at the soldier with those glowing violet eyes, silent and watchful.

"No..." I slurred, the darkness closing in like a heavy curtain. I tried to reach for him, but my hand fell limply into the snow. "My... son..."

The roar of the helicopter engine grew louder, drowning out my thoughts.

My eyes rolled back, and the world went black.

  • DR LUNA: The Lycan's Stolen Heir    Chapter 32

Aria"What is Project True Alpha?" I watched as his playful expression changed a little. That showed me it had to do with something very serious, or rather something he didn't want me to know about. "It's not something you should get yourself involved in.""That isn't the answer to my question.""That's the most you can get for now. Besides, Leo isn't even your son, take a rest."That immediately flared me up, my whole body boiling up. "You don't have the right to decide that for me anymore!" I shouted. "You might be his father, but Leo is my patient. He's under my care. I have just as much right over him. if anyone is experimenting on him...""No one is going to touch Leo." He cut me off. The sudden sharpness in his voice made me instantly calm down, the atmosphere turning dangerous. Before I could tell what was going on, Dante was already in front of me, his expression changing completely. It was controlling, terrifying, and very protective. I couldn't help wondering what made hi

Aria'Project True Alpha'My hand started shaking, my blood freezing at the names beneath it. Leo Rinaldi. Elder Vane. There were also medical charts, ranging from brain scans to behavioral reports. What the hell are all these? From all I was seeing, Leo wasn't a child to them, but an experiment. This made a chill run over my body. Then, I found the last page, which left me still. SUBJECT BIOLOGICAL MOTHER STATUS: DECEASED. Below it was also a date, which dated back to six years ago. It was shocking how the date matched the exact night my baby was stolen. I stared at the page again, my heart hammering non stop. Deceased? It was so casually written, like they didn't care about what impact it could make. How can they easily write someone's life off like that? That is very cruel. The worse part of the diagnosis is how they discussed Leo like he wasn't a little boy that needed to live, but as a lab animal. He wasn't seen as a little one I knew who loved pancakes, and bedtime st

  • DR LUNA: The Lycan's Stolen Heir    Chapter 30

Aria I did my best to keep my eyes shut tightly, forcing my breathing to stay slow and normal, and not make him suspicious. Dante claimed back to his own side of the bed without a word. For the next two minutes, neither of us moved. I made sure to stay in character. I could also feel Dante beside me, very warm and solid. I kept on perceiving the scent of bourbon and rain, as they both engulfed me annoyingly. It was so invading that it made it impossible to think straight. To worsen everything, my heart kept pounding, and it terrified me that he could hear it. He'll be ready in just seven days? The words echoed continuously in my head. Use him properly? Who was the 'him" he talked about? Could it be Leo?No. That's not possible. I'm sure Dante won't be that heatless to hurt him. I have observed them, and I can tell that everything he's doing around the boy is too real to be a bait. He has been too protective, always putting him first. But why is he so secretive? Why decide to meet

  • DR LUNA: The Lycan's Stolen Heir    Chapter 29

AriaHaving just finished dinner after a long, boring day, I closed the door to my room, and leaned against it, letting out a long breath. No man could ever make you scream the way I would. I'd have you writhing underneath me, begging me not to stop.My face heated up all over again just thinking about it. I pushed off the door and walked to the bathroom, splashing cold water on my face."Get it together, Aria," I muttered to my reflection. But I couldn't stop hearing his voice in my head. Couldn't stop imagining what it would be like if I actually...No.I dried my face roughly with a towel and walked back into the bedroom. I needed sleep. That's all this was. Exhaustion making me think crazy things.I changed into my pajamas, a simple tank top and shorts, and climbed into bed, pulling the covers up. I closed my eyes and tried to clear my mind.I'd have you writhing underneath me, begging me not to stop.My eyes flew open."Damn it."I rolled onto my side, then my other side, then on

Aria"What are you going to do to stop me, Dr. Vale?"His voice was low and rough, his body still pressed against mine. I could feel the heat radiating off him, could smell the faint scent of whiskey and something darker, something purely him.I tilted my head back and met his eyes, forcing a sweet smile onto my face."Nothing," I said simply. "Because if you're so open about bringing girls home, I can bring whoever I want home too."The change in him was instant. His grip on my waist tightened, his eyes flashing with something dangerous."Don't even think about it."I raised an eyebrow, my smile widening even as my heart raced. "That's not fair. You can bring girls home but I can't bring men? That sounds biased to me, Dante."His jaw clenched, and he leaned in closer until his lips brushed against my ear. "No man could ever make you scream the way I would. No man could make you forget your own name while I'm buried so deep inside you that you can't tell where you end and I begin."My
