Chapter 2

Aria

I had been walking aimlessly, trying to keep my blood moving, but the cold was winning. My feet were numb blocks of ice inside my ruined shoes. My eyelashes were heavy with frost.

I collapsed next to a hollowed-out tree trunk, shivering so hard my teeth rattled.

"I’m sorry," I whispered to my stomach. "I’m so sorry."

Then, something hit me.

It wasn't a cramp. It felt like a hook sinking into my spine and pulling. I gasped, falling over in the snow as a wave of heat seared through my freezing body.

"No," I panted, watching my breath cloud in the air. "Not yet. You’re too small. It’s too soon."

But the pressure didn't stop. It intensified.

I looked down at my hands clutching my stomach. To my horror, I could see the movement beneath the fabric of my dress. My belly wasn't just hard; it was surging.

'It’s dying,' a terrifying instinct whispered in my mind. 'or the baby knows the cold is killing us. It’s forcing its way out to survive.' another voice whispered.

In the old legends of the pack, they spoke of "True Alphas", children born with so much raw power that they could accelerate their own growth in times of crisis. They burned through the mother’s life force like fuel to save themselves.

I screamed as another contraction shattered my pelvis. It felt like my very life was being sucked out of my veins, pooling into my womb.

My vision blurred, grey spots dancing in front of my eyes. I was fading. He was taking everything I had left.

"Take it," I gasped, leaning my head back against the frozen bark. tears froze instantly on my cheeks. "Take it all. Just live."

The wind roared, drowning out my cries. I was eighteen, alone in the Dead Lands, with no doctor, no towels, and no mate. I only had the ice.

One final, earth-shattering push, and the pressure released.

Silence.

I slumped forward, panting.

There was no cry.

Panic, colder than the snow, seized my heart. I reached down with trembling, numb fingers. I pulled the small bundle up to my chest, wrapping him in the tattered remains of my skirt to shield him from the wind.

"Please. Please, don't be silent. Cry. Scream. Anything." I whispered, rubbing his tiny, purple back.

I brushed the blood and vernix from his face. He was tiny, but perfect. Ten fingers. Ten toes. A tuft of jet-black hair.

And then, his eyes opened.

I gasped.

They weren't blue like Lucas’s. They weren't brown like mine.

They were Violet.

A glowing, electric purple that seemed to glow with power, illuminating the dark hollow of the tree.

He didn't cry, but looked at me. His gaze was ancient, and terrifyingly intelligent.

"You..." I whispered, stroking his freezing cheek. "What are you?"

*Thwup-thwup-thwup.*

A sound suddenly came from up. The snow around me began to swirl violently, whipped up by a massive downdraft.

A spotlight blinded me from above.

I squinted up, shielding the baby’s eyes. A black helicopter, was descending onto the frozen plain. It didn't have the markings of the police or the Silver Moon Pack.

It had a symbol painted on the side, but I couldn't see it clearly.

Men in black gear jumped from the skids before it even touched the ground. They moved with unnatural speed, their heavy boots crunching on the ice as they surrounded me.

"Stay back!" I screamed, curling over my baby. "Don't touch him!"

A man in a black helmet reached me first. He didn't speak and simply reached down for my son.

"No!" I shrieked. Adrenaline gave me one last burst of strength. I bit the soldier’s gloved hand, tasting the leather and dirt.

He didn't flinch and instead backhanded me across the face.

Ah!

My head snapped back, stars exploding in my vision. The world spun dizzily.

"Secure the asset," a distorted voice commanded from his radio.

"The mother?" the soldier asked, looking down at me.

"Leave her. She's drained. She won't survive the night."

Another man knelt beside me. I tried to scratch him, to fight, but my limbs felt weak. He pulled out a syringe and plunged it into my neck.

Cold spread through my veins instantly. My muscles unlocked. My grip on the baby loosened against my will.

I watched, paralyzed, as the soldier lifted my son into the air.

The baby didn't cry. He stared at the soldier with those glowing violet eyes, silent and watchful.

"No..." I slurred, the darkness closing in like a heavy curtain. I tried to reach for him, but my hand fell limply into the snow. "My... son..."

The roar of the helicopter engine grew louder, drowning out my thoughts.

My eyes rolled back, and the world went black.

DanteI watched the heavy oak door slam shut, the vibration rattling the frames of the paintings on the wall. I stood there for a second, a slow, dark grin spreading across my face. She was riled up. Really riled up. I could see it now matter how she tried to hide it. She was jealous. She could mask it with all the medical jargon and moral outrage she wanted, but I knew the look of a woman who couldn't stand the thought of another woman in my bed.I moved away from the edge of the bed, the mattress creaking as I stood up.I was fully dressed. I hadn’t even taken off my boots. My black shirt was still tucked in, and my trousers were perfectly in place. So was the girl. I hadn’t touched her once. I didn’t want to. After six years of watching Aria from the shadows, making sure her clinic stayed open, keeping rival wolves away from her doorstep, and obsessing over every move she made in New York, the idea of touching someone else was hollow.I’d brought her here for Leo, but I’d also brou

  • DR LUNA: The Lycan's Stolen Heir    Chapter 26

Aria I stared at the girl, my fingers tightening around my fork until the metal bit into my palm. She was everything I wasn't, or at least, everything I wasn't trying to be right now. She wore a dress that was barely more than a piece of clothing, clinging to every curve, and her makeup was heavy, as if designed for a club, highlighting her features.I tried to keep my face indifferent. I was the one that had told him to find someone else afterall. I had told him I didn't care who he slept with. But seeing her hand tucked into his, seeing the way he looked down at her with that same dark, amused glint he usually reserved for me, made something hot and ugly flare in my chest. It wasn't jealousy. I refused to call it that. It was just…insult.Dante didn’t say a word to me. He didn’t even acknowledge my presence or Leo's. He just looked at the girl, then leaned down and pressed a long, lingering kiss against her mouth, it was deep, passionate, and loud. The sound of it made my skin craw

AriaI held Leo as tightly as I could, letting the cold, lashing shadows hit my back. I didn't care about the stings. I just wanted him to feel safe. Slowly, the whirlwind in the room began to die down. The shadows retreated, sliding back into the corners like shamed pets, until everything was normal again.Leo’s sobs turned into small, shaky hiccups. I pulled back to look at his face, brushing his damp hair away from his forehead."I'm so sorry, Leo. I shouldn't have left you alone. I thought you were deep asleep. I am so, so sorry."He sniffed, his eyes red and puffy. He looked so small under that massive blanket. "I had a nightmare," he whispered, his voice cracking. "The man was back. He had the glass of water, and he told me that if I didn't drink it, he'll kill you. I saw you disappear into the dark, and I couldn't reach you."I felt a lump in my throat. I didn't know who this so called man was, but for Leo to have a nightmare about him, then he mustn't be a good person."It was

AriaI tried to push him away. I really did. My hands were flat against his chest, feeling the hard muscle beneath his shirt, but the resistance didn't last. The moment his tongue brushed against mine, my resolve shattered like glass. I found myself melting into him, my fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt as he explored my mouth with a hunger that was both terrifying and intoxicating. He didn't hold back, his hands sliding down my back, moving over the curve of my waist before sliding down my thighs. I let out a gasp as he gripped my ass, squeezing hard. An involuntary moan escaped my throat, lost in the heat of his mouth.I hated how much I liked it. I hated that after everything he had done, the kidnapping, the threats, the forced marriage, my body was betraying me. I could feel the heat radiating from him, a magnetic pull that made my head spin. I wanted to stop, but I also wanted to see how far he would go.Bzzzzzz.The sudden vibration in my pocket felt like a splash of

Aria "Don Moretti. He's the one. He said if I took out the heir, the Rinaldi empire would crumble from the inside out. He promised me a life for my daughter. He promised me I’d be safe."I felt the temperature in the room plummet. I didn't even have to look at Dante to know how he was reacting. In this world, the Obsidian Syndicate was the sun, and everything else—the packs, the human mobs, the black markets—revolved around it. It was a massive, blood-stained corporation of the supernatural. Dante sat at the very top as the Lycan King, but the pyramid beneath him was built on shifting sand.Don Moretti. The name sent a cold ripple through my mind. In this world, the Obsidian Syndicate was the sun, and everything else revolved around it. At the very center of this sun sat the Lycan King. Dante was the absolute monarch of a system that controlled international trade, high-end technology, and the laws of the supernatural world. But even a King has rivals. The Syndicate was divided into

  • DR LUNA: The Lycan's Stolen Heir    Chapter 22

Aria The nanny didn't seem to hear me, her scream echoing off the damp stone walls, a sound that would have made most people flinch, but I wasn't most people. I stayed exactly where I was, my eyes fixed on the red line I had carved into her skin. I pulled the scalpel back slowly, letting it catch the light. I took a seat on a stool directly in front of her, leaning back with a forced sense of ease. I started to twirl the scalpel between my fingers. It was a habit I’d picked up during long nights in the residency lounge, it was a way to keep my hands steady and my mind focused. To her, I’m sure it looked like the practiced move of a killer."Let’s try this one last time. Who sent you to kill Leo?"The nanny was shaking so hard the wooden chair rattled against the floor. Blood dripped from her hand, staining the hem of her apron. She looked at the blood, then at me, her face twisting into pathetic desperation."I don't know what you're talking about!" she wailed, her voice cracking. "
