Chapter 3

Zelda blinked- not once, but twice to clear the confusion in her brain, she leaned on the counter, wiping a flush of sweat away. "I don't get it."

The manager stared at her, bewildered, "Zelda. You are getting promoted, and the best part is. chef. Don't you want that?"

She had grown up in Brazil, taking everything gently with her twins.

She walked back to the counter, before focusing her eyes on the steaming pot. "I will pass."

The manager was surprised, surely, she hadn't seen anyone behave this strangely in mention of a promotion, "Are you sure? You get your own house, your own car. You even get to live on Manhattan street."

Zelda snapped her eyelids back at her, if she accepted this offer, she would be bringing a whole new light for her kids. For her kids, she reminded herself. Just for herself.

The manager clasped her hand together in joy, "I will arrange your visa to New York," She smiled heartily, "And for your kids."

Zelda flashed a smile; one that showed how grateful she was.

The next week, Zelda had found herself running down the house, before shoving some pieces of clothes into the traveling bag. It was her first time flying. She didn't know what it was like getting into the plane, but she was sure it would be fun.

"Mommy! I am going to smack Layla." Kayla sounded from the kitchen, before hauling herself over to her mother, she leaned down a bit and gazed at the scattered clothes on the chair. "Are we moving today?"

She sounded excited, the day she told them about a promotion, they had been so excited and even promised to bake a cake for her- even though clearly, five year olds couldn't bake cake.

"I thought I told you to pack." A groan escaped from her lips, exhausted and tired, then flying, going to a place you never knew.

"I was, until Layla stole my teddy bear, she's going to rip it apart, Mommy." The little girl's eyes grew misty, and she waved her hand up in the air.

Zelda found herself taking a deep long sigh, before she picked the clothes and threw them into the bag, "Just go get your toy, we will be leaving in any minute from now." Zelda said, her voice flushed.

"Alright, Mommy." The little girl skipped delightedly out of the room.

Kids. They were always going to be kids.

"Mommy, look at that." Kayla ruffled at her mother's gown, her voice growing soft, as she pointed at some family who were walking along the terminal, "Aren't they cute?" She bobbed her head forward, to catch a clear look at them, and then, she smiled slowly.

Zelda gazed at the couple, perfect family, her mind drizzled over to her parents, and she let out a sober sigh, oh, all these years, she had missed them so much, but they never even cared about her. They blocked her everywhere.

She sighed, before grasping the handle of the traveling bag, "Kayla, why don't you and your sister go sit over there?" She pointed at the bench, "I will go get our stuff checked." The twins nodded happily, before she

Zelda hurriedly walked towards the checking point. As soon as she was done, she grabbed the bag, before passing the man a gentle smile. As she pulled the bag along, she thought about a lot of things; the promotion, her kids, her parents, her life....

Apparently, she had no idea when she bumped into a figure, the slight twitch of cold coffee flushed towards her skin and she stared up in horror, she couldn't see his face because he was soaring, she stared up, and up, until she caught his face. A pair of dark eyes greeted her and she gulped down nothing in particular.

His suit was etched elegantly to his body, his dark hair was swept towards his face, tiny layers peeking through his forehead, and then, he finally coughed.

He stared down at his suit that was stained with coffee, and he stared at her.

"Oh my," She gulped. "I am really sorry, I didn't even know what I was doing, and and.." He was rich, he could even get her arrested. Dear Gosh, her life was over.

"It's okay." He laughs, though it was slow and deep, his dark eyes shined a little bit warm, and Zelda stepped back.

It was okay? Was it really okay?

"Oh," She stared down at his suit, and a guilty expression flashed through her eyes, she stared around, "I am really sorry about the suit. I didn't mean to do that."

He stared intently, before he wiped a streak of coffee away from his suit, she searched his finger, no ring, not married. Right.

Now, how was she going to escape the hands of this man who took no offense to her pouring a cup of coffee to his suit.

"I really have to get going now, else I will miss my flight, I really don't want to miss that." And, then, she ran away from the man, she wasn't even sure she could last a minute under his soft glance, and thankfully, he took a step back before he walked away.

"Mommy?" As soon as she reached her daughter's side, they asked. "Who was that man you were talking to?"

Wait, her kids have seen that, now, they would think that she was in some sort of relationship with him, great, her life was officially over.

"Layla." Kayla ruffled her twin sister's shoulder, "Did you see his watch, I swear it's made of real gold." She twinkled her eyes gently, and Zelda's face palmed herself.

"Leaving for New York in ten minutes." The voice sounded, and Zelda clutched her bag, before leading her kids into the plane.

Whatever it was, whatever awaited her in New York, she was going to overcome it.
