Chapter 578

Author: Tightrope
There was no denying that Jayson had saved her tonight. Ariel wasn't so petty that she wouldn't thank him. Still…

She frowned slightly, surprised by how Jayson had treated Nancy.

Jayson turned the car around. Glancing at her, he replied unhurriedly, "You're welcome."

Silence settled again, heavy and uncomfortable.

Ariel knew he had saved her and made sure Nancy and Sarah wouldn't escape punishment. He had done a lot for her. Yet, she remained cool-headed, choosing to treat these matters separately.

Whether Jayson was sincere didn't matter. Tonight, he had also been settling personal scores with Nancy. Their past had nothing to do with her—she had simply been dragged into it.

She reminded herself not to overthink, not to make baseless assumptions. Since Jayson had never shared his true thoughts, all she could do was thank him politely.

"Do you need GPS navigation?" Ariel asked after a while. They were still some distance from her residential area.

A professional like him would always make sure to finish the job. Yet Ariel had come through the crisis remarkably unscathed.Chad asked, "Was it Jayson who helped you deal with the man?"Ariel nodded. "He was the one who saved me last night. Things got a little complicated, but I wasn't hurt. You don't have to worry about me."To put their minds at ease, Ariel gave Chad and Janice a brief account of what happened when she and Jayson met Nancy yesterday.Janice's jaw dropped. It took her a moment to recover. "Damn… Jayson is one cold-hearted man. They were together for so long, yet he discarded her just like that."While Janice was furious over what Nancy had done to Ariel, Jayson's ruthlessness sent chills down her spine. Clinging to Ariel's arm, Janice's emotions were a swirl of anger and relief. "Thank goodness you and Jayson settled the divorce so peacefully. You didn't cling to him either. Otherwise, with him being so clever and dangerous, who knows what he might have done

It was clear from the look on Jayson's face that he wasn't joking. Still, Ariel refused his suggestion. "That won't be necessary. You don't have to trouble yourself. Nancy and Sarah were the ones who hired the assailant. Since they've already been captured, the assailant has no reason to come after me anymore. I'm not afraid."Ariel had no intention of spending the night in this house. This place was no longer her home.Jayson gazed at her in silence, recognizing the resolve in her eyes. Whenever Ariel didn't want something, she refused without hesitation."It's hard to get a cab around here. You should just take my car and drive yourself home," Jayson finally relented.Truthfully, he had someone keeping watch near Ariel's residence. He already knew the place was safe. This time, Ariel didn't turn him down. She really would have had to walk quite a distance to hail a cab, since they weren't allowed to enter this neighborhood."Alright. Have someone retrieve the car at Faye Tech

Jayson followed behind Ariel at his own pace, watching as she weaved through the crowd, searching for the right place. Eventually, Ariel managed to get a doctor to examine his injury."There don't appear to be any fractures. But his joint is dislocated, and there are soft tissue injuries. We'll need to treat those. Please remove your shirt."When the doctor examined the injury more closely, he couldn't help but glance again at Jayson's face. He was impressed by how calmly Jayson endured the pain.Jayson did as the doctor requested. He unbuttoned his shirt and slipped it off. Ariel furrowed her brows. The sight of the dislocated joint looked awful. Meanwhile, the cut wasn't too deep, but it looked painful. Then her eyes caught on a scar running several inches along his arm.Jayson's skin was fair, and though the scar had faded to a lighter shade, it still stood out against the firm lines of his arm. That scar came from the time he had rescued her at the Spencer residence.Ari

Nancy was a smart woman. Once love no longer clouded her judgment, everything became clear.Jayson had never simply wanted to see the Stantons fall. He had used her, pushing her deeper into ruin while paving the way for Ariel.Every scheme, every uproar she caused became a stepping stone that elevated Ariel's name to global recognition. She was nothing more than a pawn.Had she not walked straight into each of Jayson's traps, Ariel would never have risen so quickly. Without Nancy's scandals drawing attention, Ariel might have remained an unknown researcher, quietly dedicating herself to her work. If not for his greater plans, Jayson could have eliminated Nancy long ago. Instead, he chose a path where Ariel would repeatedly triumph over her, gaining revenge while also reaping benefits.Even if Nancy had stayed abroad, Jayson had countless ways to make her suffer. But none would have been as effective as what he orchestrated now.Nancy and Sarah's reputations were in ruins. Nancy

Ariel couldn't quite put her feelings into words. After all these years, she had finally received an apology from one of the perpetrators—someone who had enjoyed countless privileges by exploiting Elena's work. The circumstances were unusual. However, if not for this situation, Nancy would never have uttered those words.Nancy was apologizing only because she didn't want to be held accountable for her actions. Yet what she was being forced to do now would be enough to torment her for the rest of her life, especially for a woman as arrogant as she was.The collapse of one's spirit and pride didn't just strip away fame and fortune—it left a person in unbearable turmoil.Ariel ignored the stiff, resentful look on Nancy's face. She turned her gaze toward Jayson, her eyes cold and indifferent. "We can't let her go. She must take responsibility for what she's done."Nancy's expression twisted with horror and confusion. "Ariel Walker! What more do you want from me?"She even got down on
