☆☆SUMMER’S POV☆☆

His hand came into my line of sight, palm open. He waited for me to take it, but I didn’t. I didn’t know what to do. I just stared at him until his hand dropped. My chest seized.

“Hey,” he said quietly and crouched close enough that I could smell his woody perfume. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine,” I lied, wiping at my face.

“You’re freezing,” he murmured.

“I’m okay.”

He didn’t argue. He just stood and shrugged out of his hoodie and held it out for me. I stared at it. He didn’t force it on me, just kept holding it, a quiet offer hanging in the air between us.

When I reached for it, he shoved it back, and held out his hand for me again. I was too cold. Something inside me yielded. I slid my fingers into his, and he didn’t yank—he let me decide the pace.

He braced as I pushed up, slow, legs shaking. When I wobbled, he steadied me with the lightest touch at my elbow. His thumb traced the back of my hand, a fleeting, grounding gesture that froze me in place. That’s when I s

♡♡HAYDEN'S POV♡♡It’s been a week and five days. My life without Summer. I never imagined it would be this hard. But it was harder than I cared to admit.“Ernesto.”“Yes, Boss.”“How many went out?”“You scheduled three before breakfast. That’s… clinically a lot. I’m at her dorm now.”“Status on the roommate.”“She’s taking everything in.”I sighed. Summer had refused to step out of her room in the past days. Since she had also refused to answer any of my calls or texts, Celeste still made herself the witness who kept the door between us despite her protests.“You want the red roses first or the eucalyptus mix?” Ernesto’s voice drifted into my thoughts.“Eucalyptus,” I replied. “And the card says—”“No card.”“You sure? Yesterday you had me write Ti amo and then called back to amputate per sempre because it sounded like a threat.”“No card this time,” I said. “Please.”“Copy.”I heard the knock on the door and Celeste’s voice through the line as she answered Ernesto.“Seriously, this

♡♡HAYDEN'S POV♡♡I didn’t give her the second look she wanted. I yanked out the mouthguard and tape as I shouldered through the bodies and found the back corridor leading outside. Still, Megan followed.I pretended not to hear her call my name, begging for a minute or two. What the hell was she even here to see me for? There was nothing left to talk about since we broke up. She stepped into the doorway like a verdict.“Just listen to me,” she begged.“How’d you know I was here?”“I followed you. From the club.”“Why am I not surprised? Spare yourself some time, turn around, and never speak to me again.”“Hayden—you’re bleeding. I shouldn’t have to chase you into some underground fight just to talk.”“You shouldn’t have followed me anywhere. Leave.”Her voice cracked. “What do you expect me to do? You blocked me everywhere. You cut me off like I never existed. And then I see you for the first time in eight months. I see you with someone else. And—and you kissed her and I—God, I rememb

♡♡HAYDEN'S POV♡♡The bouquet was crushed in my grip before I even realized it. The petals bent, stems squeaking under my fingers, but I couldn’t unclench. I’d been standing outside Summer’s dorm for twenty minutes, and every second stretched like an hour.It had been a week since we broke up. Since she broke up with me. She hadn’t answered my calls or texts. She’d locked herself in her room, and I couldn’t get in.On the fifth day of my visits, Celeste reported me to the resident assistant, said I was causing trouble. Now the RA had banned me from stepping inside the dorm. For the past two days, I’d been waiting outside, hoping I’d see Summer walk by. But it was no use. Still, I waited. I’d just finished a lecture I barely concentrated on, that’s when I decided to show up again with a bunch of red roses. Celeste stopped short when she saw me, arms folded tight, just like the expression on her face. As I saw her, I was somewhat relieved. I’d never been this happy seeing her before.“H

☆☆SUMMER’S POV☆☆Hayden’s eyes widened, filled with disbelief. He opened his mouth to speak, but I didn’t want to hear it. I tore his jacket off my shoulder and let it fall onto the seat. The night air stung my skin the second I got out of the car. But my throat burned.I could hear the bass pounding from the frat house around the bend. My breath fogged, thin and shaky. The door on Hayden’s side slammed. He came around the hood fast, eyes wrecked.“Summer—”“Don’t.”I backed up. Gravel shifted under my shoes. He stopped like I’d thrown a hand to his chest.“We just started dating,” he said, voice rough. “It’s been—what—hours? Not even a day. You’re ending us in a driveway over a pause.”“It’s not the pause, Hayden. It’s what was in it.”He shook his head hard, like he could rattle the words out of his skull. “There was nothing in it. It was a breath. I was trying not to hurt you.”“You did anyway.”“I’m trying—” He dragged a palm down his face, then dropped it. “I’m standing here tryi

☆☆SUMMER’S POV☆☆“We dated two years ago. And… before we broke up a few months ago, it was off and on.” He stared through the windshield.“You were in Europe all that time,” I said, careful.“She visited. She’d drop everything—skip classes, disappear from campus. She’d show up in Berlin, in Milan. Sometimes I visited her in New York.”My mouth was dry. “Why did you break up?”He laughed once. There was no humor in it. “Pick a reason.”“Hayden Dylan likes to change girls like he changes his shirt?”His brows knitted. “What?”“Every week, Hayden, you showed up with a different girl back in high school. I’m pretty sure you should've heard this saying.”“Not really.”“That’s actually how everybody saw you.”He exhaled through his nose, long and unsteady.“Actually that’s not the reason,” he said. “Megan was a liar. That’s why we broke up. She lied. A lot. About small things until they weren’t small. About people. About… me.”“About what?”He stared at his hands—big, bruised knuckles unde
