Author: Cassie
Lucas, the strongest Alpha of the Blackstone Pack.

The rumors say that he is cold and heartless, like an iceberg to everyone. No woman can win his affection.

His pack and ours, the Moon-shadow Pack, had been enemies for generations.

He was also my first love… the one I had tried so hard to forget.

Years ago, I almost became mates with him, the man I truly loved, the man I wanted more than anything.

But we were torn apart. And now, he was here. Right before my mating ceremony…

Leaning against an ancient oak, his power radiated a bone-chilling intensity.

With just a word, a look, he could tear me apart.

A stifled laugh escaped Asher's throat. "Ella, darling, him? You choose him?"

"He hasn't touched a female wolf in years! Not since his first mate... abandoned him." Asher's words carried a hint of contempt.

Abandoned... is that what they believed?

My heart ached silently. My gaze never left Lucas.

That face, so severe yet filled with sorrow, had haunted my dreams for seven long years.

Ever since our mate bond... was severed.

Tonight, emboldened by Asher's betrayal and too much strong mead, I finally dared to look him in the eyes again.

My claws dug deep into my palms.

I didn't know what he would do. Perhaps to the Lucas before me now, I was just a stranger who had once hurt him, and he would be even more cruel because of it.

Or maybe he was here specifically to witness my humiliation.

Perhaps he could use Asher's shaming to crush me under his heel...

Lucas raised his head, crooked his foot, and used the toe of his heavy leather boot to lift my chin, forcing my face higher.

His scent was still untamed and wild, overwhelming my senses, making me tremble.

His jaw tightened, his gaze colder than a frozen river.

"Are you certain, she-wolf?" His voice was low, filled with barely contained fury.

I leaned into the pressure of his boot, fear and more primal emotions surging through me.

"I am certain, Alpha."

He stood, his aura of dominance intensifying.

I could feel the air solidify around us as everyone tensed, fearing an explosion at any moment.

Rumors said he once threw a fawning omega into rapids for standing in his path, leaving them to drown.

Even Asher panicked, setting Selena down and rushing forward with arms spread wide.

"Lucas, brother! She's my intended mate! Don't hurt her!"

"She doesn't know your temper, your... preferences. Ella, get up! I told you, he has no interest in females anymore. And you have no interest in anyone but me. Stop this act. Go back to your tent with your attendants."

Perhaps it was that possessive phrase "my intended mate" that shattered his remaining restraint.

Lucas growled, shoving Asher back, making him stumble.

Lucas's eyes now burned like fire, locked on Asher.

"Who said I have no interest in this she-wolf?"

Before I could react, I felt my world tilt. I was airborne, thrown over Lucas's shoulder like a trophy.

His voice, deep and resonant by my ear, carried years of resentment and pure possession.

"Ella Moon Shadow. You came to me this time."

As we strode toward the clearing's edge, all wolves frozen in shock, Asher finally found his voice.

"Lucas Black Stone! What is the meaning of this?"

Lucas. His name. The mark branded on my soul.

He paused at the tree line, turning his head. His voice held no mercy.

"Exactly what it looks like, Silver Pine."

Asher's voice was hoarse with disbelief.

"You can't be serious! She's my Moon Goddess! My mate!"

His mate.

Those words, even now, clawed at my heart.

Lucas gave Asher a contemptuous glance. Then he shifted his gaze to me, full of predatory appreciation.

He hoisted me higher, gripping me possessively, then plunged into the dark forest.

Asher lunged forward, grabbing Lucas's arm.

"Lucas! We grew up together, shared the same hunting grounds!"

His gaze implored me, still slung over Lucas's shoulder.

"An Alpha doesn't take another's mate, Lucas. You know the ancient law! You can't break the rules!"

Lucas didn't even break stride.

He merely flexed his body, shaking off Asher's grip, then delivered a palm strike to Asher's chest, sending him stumbling backward into a confused Selena who had been following close behind.

Asher fell into Selena's arms, forming an awkward embrace, the atmosphere no longer intimate as at the beginning, but filled with embarrassment.

Lucas's whisper cut through the forest like a winter wind.

"Then you should know better, Silver Pine."

"The moon is high. Enjoy your... freedom!"

"From now on, when you see her, be respectful, keep your distance. Otherwise, I don't mind showing the Silver-pine Pack what true Alpha rage looks like."Asher's eyes were bloodshot. He glared at Lucas, teeth clenched, for a full minute.Suddenly, he clutched his head with both hands and started wailing like an injured pup again.Should I try to comfort him a bit? I twitched my lips, really not knowing what to say.So I looked at Lucas for help. "Him…""What do we do?"Without a word, Lucas grabbed one of Asher's hind legs and started dragging him out of the cabin."My Luna and I just mated at the Moon Vow Stone this morning. We're in the middle of our honeymoon. What are you doing hanging around here like an eyesore? Get lost!""Go home, send your guests away, and try to squash that ridiculous scandal of yours. Explain things to your father and elders, and tell them I'll personally 'visit' the Silver-pine Pack in a few days to discuss a new 'alliance.'"Asher's crying grew more pathet

I trusted him.A young Alpha who, despite not being a good climber, had risked his life multiple times to scale the snowy peaks for me, to pick the once-a-century Moon-shadow Flower. He used the petals of those Moon-shadow Flowers to soak in spring water, to heal my wounds, saying it was a protective gift for me.He deserved my complete trust.I knew he was from the Blackstone Pack, a powerful Alpha family. But I didn't know how deeply entrenched his family's power was, or how unyielding his mother's will.Until one day, while hunting alone, I was taken by several elite Blackstone warriors into a heavily guarded cave.Inside sat an imposing older she-wolf – Lucas's mother, the former Luna of the Blackstone Pack. After making her point, she gestured for her subordinates to push forward a pile of precious furs and rare herbs.I was so ashamed, I didn't even have the courage to look up at her, but I wouldn't take these things. So I gently shook my head.I heard a faint, mocking scoff from

Back then, to form an alliance with the Moon-shadow Pack, Asher had indeed been incredibly attentive to me.He brought the plumpest prey, drove away beasts encroaching on our territory, and even when the Moon-shadow Pack faced a small beast tide, he ignored the Silver-pine elders' objections and personally led a team to support us.Many times, I tried to stop thinking of Lucas's name. I thought I could finally bury that distant first love for good.Maybe I should cherish this second chance, for my pack, and for myself. If I missed this, perhaps I really would end up alone in the Moon-shadow Pack. But I never felt that deep, soul-stirring connection with Asher, this hot-headed young Alpha. My Moon-shadow Pack needed allies, but what I truly longed for was a real mate. The serious kind, with mating as the goal.So one day, when he appeared at the edge of our territory with prey again, I asked him:"Alpha Asher, are you truly seeking an alliance with my Moon-shadow Pack, or just trying to

The two Alphas' gazes clashed violently in mid-air, and Lucas's face grew even colder, more serious.I spoke from behind him, my voice firm, "Asher, I agreed to your proposal the night before the ceremony, but that doesn't mean I still agree to mate with you today.""I'm sorry. Between us, it was over when you made that decision last night. I won't marry you."Hearing my decisive words, Asher's gaze shifted from me to Lucas, and he squeezed out, word by word, from between his teeth:"Did you… did you mark her last night?"Lucas replied coolly, with a hint of a challenge, "What do you think?"Before I could react, Asher threw a punch.Lucas stumbled, a trickle of blood appearing at the corner of his mouth."You dare touch my Luna! I'll kill you, you Blackstone mutt—"Lucas shielded me, steadied himself, a bloodthirsty glint in his eyes, and swung his own fist at Asher's face without hesitation.Asher flew backward, crashing into the weapons rack in the corner.Lucas turned and pulled a

A passionate kiss landed on my lips.He pulled me up. "Ella, come with me somewhere.""Where to?""You'll see when we get there."I shook my head and flopped back onto the fur-covered bed. "No, some other day. I'm too tired, my bones feel like jelly…"His tone was firm, leaving no room for argument. "No, today. Right now!"The Alpha command vibrated through me again."If you can't move, that's fine. I'll carry you, or I'll give you a piggyback."As he spoke, he gently started fastening my underwear, his hot palms caressing me as he slipped another garment over my head. But I had no interest in any of this. We… we'd been at it all night…"Lucas… don't get dressed yet.""At least… at least let me wash up…"He seemed impatient, his intense possessiveness almost swallowing me whole."It's fine, they won't smell it.
