"Phoebe." The name slipped out of Gladwin's mouth.

"What about that woman?" Abigail now turned to her uncle.

"Eijaz said that after Flavia had her examination, she met with Phoebe. After that, Flavia, who was supposed to go with Eijaz, suddenly asked to be taken home. I'm sure Phoebe said something to Flavia." Gladwin rose from his seat. Determination and anger glinted in his eyes.

"Where are you going, Uncle?" Abigail asked again.

"I'm going to see Phoebe. I need to ask her directly about what she said to Flavia."

"Gladwin," Claire intervened. "I know you're angry right now. But it won't serve any purpose."

Gladwin turned to his sister. "What do you mean?" His voice was edged with frustration.

"Confronting Phoebe won't help. Whether she said something to Flavia or not, if she knows about Flavia's condition, she'll feel victorious."

"This isn't a game, Claire. There's no winning or losing here," Gladwin replied, a hint of bitterness in his tone. What his sister was saying didn't make
