Chapter 4

Author: Stars
I could hear sounds of fighting from inside the house.

Sampson was clearly unable to sit still and do nothing anymore once he found out he was at risk of losing his position as Alpha.

I wouldn't give him any chance to get out of this. I wanted him to pay the price!

Since he had severed our mind link and vanished from performing his duties for the pack for three months, it was fine for the Luna to rest for a while from exhaustion, right?

And so, I spent a peaceful day in a house Lambert had prepared for me.

When he came to see me to go to the funeral, he brought some interesting news.

"His friends have been trying to find you. They almost came to my pack to find information on you."

I grinned. "He refused to appear when I was going mad trying to find him, so of course I needed to make him have a taste of my pain."

I pulled out an outdated black-and-white dress, then took out my makeup kit and put on a ghostly-pale makeup. I applied some eye drops to make it look like tears had been welling in my eyes. I looked at myself in the mirror, then put on the face of a hollow and heartbroken woman.

After that, Lambert and I traveled separately to the funeral. My fingers paled slightly as they curled tightly around the flash drive.

When I arrived at the funeral, Lambert was already there, waiting for me. Dressed in a black suit, he made his way to me through the crowd and clapped my shoulders, giving his condolences.

All the werewolves from the pack must join the Alpha's funeral. The plaza was already filled with mourners, as well as friends and relatives who were none the wiser.

I could feel my heart squeeze in pain as I watched them grieve.

Sampson—you were the Alpha, yet your little disappearing act deceived me and your entire pack, as well as family and friends who loved you.

Today would be the day you pay for everything!

I welcomed each guest personally. Some of them were Alphas from other packs that were working together with our pack.

After today, Sampson's reputation with their packs would plummet. None of them would work with him again.

Sampson's close friends looked at me, welcoming the guests with a dark expression, until one of them finally pulled me aside and whispered, "Are you crazy, Bethany? Stop this! Sampson's still alive!"

I blinked; after some difficulty, I forced out a few tears and said in a tone of despair, "No need to comfort me. I know the dead can't be brought back. I should wake up after so many days. I won't cling to any more hope."

He still wanted to say something when Lambert stepped between us. "We're all grieving at this funeral today, Bethany. I hope you can come out of this stronger."

Lambert pulled me further and further away until we lost Sampson's friend.

"Almost everyone's here," he whispered.

I raised my eyebrow at him. "Get ready for showtime, then."

I stepped onto the stage and took the microphone, and announced to the entire pack and the other wolves, "Today is a sad day. Our Alpha has left us. Thank you all for attending his funeral…"

Before I could even finish, a screech cut me off.

"Bethany, have you gone mad? I told you, Sampson isn't dead!"

Desiree quickly ran forward and snatched the mic from my hands.

"What kind of Luna are you? We haven't found Sampson yet, but you're already starting his funeral!"

I didn't see Sampson behind her. Was he still not going to show himself even now?

"Who gave you the right to question the Luna?" I spat coldly. "Who do you think you are? What right do you have to question me?"

Desiree glared at me, eyes wide with disbelief, tears swirling in them. "How can you be so heartless? Sampson isn't dead yet, but you already said he's dead!"

My gaze lingered on the love marks along her neck and my Moonshell Necklace around her neck. I yanked the necklace off her and got closer to her, whispering, "He's not dead, you say? In my eyes, a cheating Alpha is as good as dead."

Desiree froze in place, unable to move.

I took back the mic; I was about to continue speaking when a figure in a tattered outfit suddenly appeared before my eyes.

"I'm alive, Bethany," Sampson choked. "I'm home."

The rescue team searched for Sampson for three days, but there was no trace of him at all. Desiree was already on the verge of collapse, and she cried every day. Looking at her, I felt no sympathy at all. She had been the one who came up with this plan, after all. I cried for three months when I first searched for Sampson. There was only despair in my life. And yet, when it was her turn, Desiree couldn't even handle it in merely several days. On the fourth day, Sampson suddenly appeared. He immediately embraced me, trembling."Bethany, I know you still love me. Otherwise, you wouldn't have searched for me for three days and nights. I know what I did is wrong… It's all Desiree's idea! This time, I made sure she couldn't find me. You shouldn't have come. That way, I'd stay hidden for a little while longer so she could feel all your pain. Still… I'm happier that you're here." Sampson was still rambling when Lambert punched him to the ground. "Stay away from my Luna, Samps

After that, I never saw Sampson again for a long time. I poured myself into the affairs of my pack. I would either call or meet up with Lambert in person to speak with him about work. Over time, the two of us grew closer, and the awkwardness between us slowly disappeared. Instead of associates, we were more like friends. One day, when I arrived at Lambert's office to talk about some business regarding the Moonstones, I accidentally saw a photo frame on his desk. On his desk was a photo of me from my school days. What was going on? Why would Lambert have a photo of me on his desk? From the angle, it was obvious that it was taken secretly. He had even framed it carefully. Lambert froze for a little bit before nervously covering the photo. "It's nothing. It's someone else." His panic had only confirmed what I already suspected. I blinked slowly, then said meaningfully, "Oh, I see. It was someone else. Originally, I was going to ask if you wanted to date me. But I guess tha

Sampson was curling up on my doorstep, shivering in the cold. When he saw me, his eyes lit up immediately. I frowned. "What are you doing at my house?" Sampson quickly ran over and grabbed my hand, begging me, "I know I'm wrong, Bethany. Please don't leave me! I'm the only one who loves you." When he felt that our mate bond was severed after I left, he panicked and began to find me. However, all I could feel as I looked at his pathetic act was nausea. Sampson's eyes were red as he said, "Bethany, I've already gotten rid of Desiree from the Pack. This is your favorite cake. I'll obey everything you say from now on. So please, don't leave me!" I yanked my hand away and knocked the cake to the ground, and sneered coldly, "No thanks. Anything you've touched disgusts me." He once called me clingy and micromanaging. He wanted to leave me, even if he had to play dead for it. But now, the very same man was kneeling in front of me and begging for my forgiveness. "I once loved

I had just left the venue when Lambert called out from behind me."Where are you going? I'll give you a ride."I looked at him, then said meaningfully, "Lambert, I'm going to sever my mate bond with Sampson."Lambert raised his eyebrow. "And?""So, there's no longer any connection between us. There's no need for us to meet anymore," I replied.Lambert gave a faint smile. At the corner of his lips, there was still blood from the fight that hadn't dried off. He had been spending a long time in the forest and had gotten used to freedom. Even after he had become an Alpha, he would still have a Roguish air about him."I did help you. I even got injured for your sake. You can't just ditch me now after you're done, right? Ouch, my head hurts so much… I must have taken a hit there." He frowned dramatically, as if he were in a lot of pain. While he made it sound like he was in a bad state, the blood on him was all Sampson's blood.I sighed exasperatedly. "What do you want?"I had to a

As soon as Sampson heard I wanted to sever our mate bond, his face turned pale.In a trembling voice, he begged, "No… You can't, Bethany! I won't agree with severing the mate bond! I really love you!"I didn't give him any chances, and snapped, "You said you love me, but you can still sleep with another she-wolf without a care in the world. You can keep a love like that to yourself."All the Alphas from the other Packs who worked with him had been watching from below. It was no longer possible to get their support. The only cooperation he had left was the Eastplain Pack—the pack I was originally from.Sampson was already isolated, with no one on his side. He stood there with his chest heaving, and then gave a mocking laugh. "You said I cheated, but do you have proof? Your footage can only prove that I spent the night with a friend at home."As I surveyed Sampson's smug expression, it dawned upon me just how shameless he truly was—I couldn't believe I only found out now. "Bethan

Sampson rushed onto the stage and pulled me into his arms, trembling as he called my name."I'm back, Bethany. You have no idea how much I missed you! I was attacked by Rogues during my patrol, and they slashed my stomach with a silver blade. Luckily, a good person took me to a hospital. That was how I could come back in one piece to see you again. I'm all better now. If you don't believe me, look!"He lifted his shirt and showed a nasty scar across his abdomen. I wondered who painted it on him.I said nothing, and simply watched his performance with a blank face. When Sampson saw that I didn't react, a flicker of embarrassment appeared on his face.I let out a cold snicker. "Are you done? Is that good person who sent you to the hospital Desiree?"Simpson's expression froze.Even now, he was still playing dumb. "What are you talking about? I don't understand you. Your mate is back… Shouldn't you be happy?"Seeing how shameless he was, I laughed. Unable to hold back the pain
