It had taken almost the entire day but Kate had taken Laurie to every place she could think of. They had walked through almost the entire town and at this point, she was sure Laurie was familiar enough with the place that she wouldn't be in danger of being lost or putting herself in a bad situation. Kate had made a point to tell Laurie about the sketchier places.
Eventually, Kate ran out of places to take Laurie that didn't involve exposing herself and they found themselves walking aimlessly through the park.
"Are you tired? Do you wanna go home?" Kate asks as Laurie stops to sit on a bench. It was late afternoon and they had been walking the entire time, with the exception of stopping for lunch. Kate was sure Laurie had developed an addiction to the milkshakes at the diner Lucas's mother managed.
"No, I'm good. It's nice out here." Laurie sighs, patting the space beside her.
Kate slid down next to her, close enough that their shoulders were touching. "It is."
"You know, if you had told me a year ago that I would be living here, so far from a city, I would've laughed in your face. But I've been here a few weeks now,"
Kate senses the shift in the mood and turns to face Laurie, moving her arm so it rests on the bench behind her. "And?"
"And I kinda love it."
Kate finds herself feeling relieved at her response. One of her fears had been that Laurie wouldn't like it here. She didn't know what she would do if Laurie decided she'd had enough and decided to leave.
"Do you miss it? California, I mean. Your job." Kate asks.
"Honestly? No." Laurie shifts slightly, moving closer to the taller woman. "I mean, I love being a doctor and saving lives, but I don't think I'm ready to go back there. I moved for my sister and I didn't have anything to stay for. I went back to work a week after the accident and I just- I couldn't do it. I still can't. At least not yet."
Neither of them spoke after that. Laurie was close enough now that Kate could wrap her arm around the smaller woman and she had taken to rubbing soothing circles on her arm.
"You know, I broke that swing once," Kate says after a while, breaking the silence pointing towards a swing set a ways in front of them. She didn't like seeing Laurie upset and was determined to change her mood.
"Did you hit it with a sledgehammer?" Laurie asks, teasing.
Kate lets out a chuckle. "I deserved that, but no. My friend Connor said I couldn't swing higher than him."
"Could you?"
"I don't know, it tipped over before we could find out," Kate says, smiling as Laurie starts laughing beside her.
"I can totally picture little you flying off that thing," Laurie says, turning to face Kate.
"It was like, eight months ago."
"Oh my god." Laurie bursts out into another round of laughter.
"They had to weld it down."
Laurie was shaking with laughter, leaning on her fully now. Her back was pressed up against Kate's side and Kate's hand had migrated down to the smaller blonde's hip.
They sat there in silence for a while before Laurie started to play with the end of Kate's shirt sleeve. She lifts the ends up a fraction and starts tracing the tattoos lining the brunette's skin. The pattern surrounding the base of her wrist resembled a cluster of trees and Laurie knew from quick glimpses that there was a detailed drawing of a full moon at the top of her forearm.
"Do you want me to tell you what they mean?" Kate asks, enjoying how Laurie was running her fingers through the lines of the tattoo.
Laurie shakes her head, pulling the sleeve of Kate's shirt back down, turning her face to look up at the older woman. "No."
"No?" Kate asks, confused.
"I mean, not no. Just, not yet."
Kate nods and Laurie can sense her confusion but she wasn't about to tell Kate that she wanted to see the entire thing. She knew Kate had more than just the ones on her left arm and she wanted to see all of them.
Asking Kate to take her shirt off in a public park probably wasn't the way to go. Of course, she wouldn't be opposed, but she'd rather it be done when they weren't in public.
Honestly, Laurie was a little surprised Kate hadn't tried to do anything but hug her or hold her hand. She had been dropping hints for a while now and the older woman remained oblivious. It wasn't as if she was being subtle. Laurie was sure Kate had caught her staring at her more than once.
"So is there anywhere else you wanna take me before we go?" Laurie asks, weaving her hand into Kate's.
Kate thought for a while before she remembered the shelter, not a block from where they were sitting. She wasn't sure how Laurie felt about animals but seeing as the blonde woman was in no rush to get home, she might as well ask. She herself wasn't a huge fan but short of going to the mall or a bar, Kate couldn't think of anything else.
"Well, that depends."
"On what?" Laurie asks, curious.
"Whether you like furry four-legged creatures. There's an animal shelter about a block from here if you wanna go." Kate watches her mate's eyes light up and had a feeling she was gonna be in that shelter for a while.
Laurie abruptly, smiling as she hears Kate grumble in light protest as she pulls away from her.
Laurie absolutely adored animals. She had always wanted a pet but her parents never got one and when she started living alone, her job didn't afford her the time to give any animal the care it needed. But now she had a lot of time on her hands and had been thinking of getting a pet since she moved.
Laurie holds her hand out for Kate to take and pulls her up as soon as she takes it.
"Let's go."
Laurie nods, placing soft kisses on Kate's temple. "Yes, you feel so good."Kate rocks her hips forward, letting out a shuddering breath as her mates center grinds against her thigh. Laurie let out a sinful sound at the contact."Laurie are you-" "If you ask me if I'm sure one more time, I'm going to walk out of here." Laurie threatens before promptly pulling Kate back down for a kiss. Kate repeats the motion harder this time, moaning in surprise as she feels Laurie move her leg, her thigh putting a delicious pressure on Kate's center."Don't stop." Laurie gasps, tucking her face into Kate's neck. Kate nods against her, breathing heavily as she starts to grind her hips down at a steady pace. She feels Laurie's hold tighten and can't help the growl that escapes her lips as the smaller blonde bites down on her shoulder. Everything felt so good, Kate was working her body so well, her hands and lips were everywhere, kissing and biting and grabbing at all the right places. Laurie wasn
Kate froze for a second, not quite ready to hear those specific words come out of Laurie’s mouth. “Kiss me.” Laurie repeats, this time sounding more like a demand as she tries again to pull Kate closer, weaving her hand through her hair.Kate snaps out of her shock and allows herself to be pulled in, stopping just a hair's breadth away from Laurie’s lips. Kate wanted to kiss her so badly, but She just didn’t know how she would react once she did. Kate wasn’t sure she’d be able to stop.“Kiss me.” Laurie whispers against her lips and she does, her resolve breaking as she closes the distance between them and meets Laurie in a soft, almost chaste kiss. Kate leans back just a little only to be pulled back into a deeper kiss, this time being kept in place by Laurie’s hand.Kate lets out a low growl as she feels Laurie tug on her hair as the kiss gets more heated. Laurie takes her bottom lip between her teeth and tugs playfully, pulling Kate even closer. The hand on Laurie’s thigh inches h
Upon hearing her mate's consent, Kate slowly let one hand trail down to Laurie's waist while the other moved to cup the side of her neck, gently coaxing her to tilt her head back. For a split second, Kate thought about how it would feel to sink her teeth into the pale expanse of her mate's neck and mark her. She quickly shook herself from the thought and started to slowly project her scent onto Laurie. She gently brushed her face against Laurie's neck, taking note of how the hands on her lower back tightened their hold. She took her time with that spot before moving to the other side, letting out a quiet groan as one of Laurie's hands moved to slide through her hair. Kate was holding very little back at this point and Laurie's responsiveness was only encouraging her to keep going. All she could think about now was making sure her scent covered Laurie completely, or at least enough that no one would ever question who she was to Kate.If she couldn't claim Laurie, this would do for now.
Laurie is quick to notice Kate's reaction and promptly grabs her face in her hands, forcing Kate to look at her and not the dresser on the other side of the room. Even as she does, the brunette's gaze is fixed on the spot just to the left of Laurie's face."Kate, I need you to look at me." Laurie urges. Kate was trying her best to take deep calming breaths but because Laurie was so close, she was all Kate could hone in on. It was the same intoxicating scent of vanilla, and what she had come to know as lavender, that she associated with her mate. But it was mixed with a sort of citrus and pine smell that Kate knew was from Laurie's friends. Of course, in her admittedly irrational state, that only served to unsettle her more.Kate complies with the request though, jaw clenching and teeth grinding as she struggles to keep her cool. She could never deny Laurie of anything but was painfully aware of her mate comfortably perched on her lap as if she h
Kate searched Laurie's face for any sign of doubt or fear, only to find none at all. Laurie looked at her with trusting eyes and Kate was thrown for a loop. "Laurie, I wasn't serious. I don't have to do that. I'll be fine." Kate says, shifting so she was now leaning on her elbow, still facing the smaller blonde. Of course, she didn't know how she would handle everything she was feeling at the moment, but she would figure it out. Laurie had just started to show acceptance and actual desire to be with her, she would not risk any of that for something as trivial as being annoyed by her scent. Even if it was killing her inside."But if it'll help you then I don't see why not." Laurie insisted, straightening up so she was now sitting as she talked. "Kate, I'm not blind. I can see this is bothering you, just let me help. Please." Kate didn't know how much longer she could put up with this. She could see that Laurie was serious and there was nothing but sincerity in the
Laurie felt the rumble on Kate's chest and leaned back to look at her, using her elbow for support. "Hey, what's wrong?" She asks, noticing Kate's shift in mood.Kate does her best to appear calmer than she's actually feeling. "Nothing. It's nothing.""It's something if you're all growly," Laurie says eyebrow raised. She could tell something was bothering the woman and she wasn't going to let up until she found out what it was. As much as she appreciated it, she was tired of having Kate make herself feel bad trying to make her comfortable. It was her turn now, to make sure Kate was okay."It's nothing. Everything's fine." Kate tries to reassure Laurie. Although, it felt more like she was telling herself. She was feeling a mix of emotions and she wasn't quite sure how to handle it.Kate didn't think something as simple as Laurie's scent being slightly different would bother her so much, b
