Chapter 2

Author: Morning Light
"You're my maid, remember? When your master's in bed, you stand by and wait to serve him."

I stood off to the side in humiliation, forced to watch Sebastian and the woman twist into every position imaginable. His ragged breathing and her breathy moans felt like they were drilling straight into my eardrums.

Sebastian even had the nerve to add, "Pay attention. You'll be using these moves yourself soon enough."

I blinked back the tears burning in my eyes and made myself endure it. Dad had said he just needed one year. In a year, he would find a way to get me out and take me home.

It was only one year. I just had to grit my teeth and get through it.

Sebastian and the woman kept going until late into the night. When they were finally done, I cleaned up all the mess they left behind and straightened the room. Only then did he let me go back to my room.

I lay in bed, but sleep wouldn't come. My brain kept circling back to what Sebastian had said. What did he mean, I'd be using those moves very soon?

I got my answer three days later.

…

That afternoon, Sebastian's secretary suddenly showed up with a custom designer gown. He said Sebastian wanted me dressed up for the night so I could go to a dinner party with him.

I was at Sebastian's mercy and had nowhere else to go, so I had no choice but to do as I was told. Even so, a sick feeling twisted in my gut.

Had Sebastian found a new way to torture me?

Half an hour later, I was standing in front of the VIP private room at The Phantom. Laughter and rowdy teasing spilled through the door, confirming every ugly guess in my head.

"Seb, you're really okay with letting your wife have fun with us?"

"She's not worthy of being called my wife."

"Still, she used to be the Lockhart family's heiress."

"Key words—used to be. Now, she's just my dog."

"Well, that puts me at ease. So, we can really go all out tonight, right?"

"As long as you guys are happy."

"You're the best, Seb!"

The crowd erupted into cheers, stopping me in my tracks.

Sebastian's subordinate saw me hesitate and shoved me hard from behind, sending me stumbling into the private room.

The moment I walked in, the room fell silent. The men's leering eyes roamed over me openly; they didn't even pretend to be subtle.

Dread coiled in my stomach at what I knew was coming. I turned to Sebastian and pleaded, "Sebastian, I'm really not feeling well today. Can I please go home?"

He looked up at me, his eyes devoid of warmth. His lips curled mockingly. "Get off your high horse, Calista. Do you still think you're a high-and-mighty heiress? The guys are in a good mood tonight and wanna have some fun with you. Know your place."

With that, he turned to the man beside him and jerked his chin. "Chuck, why don't you explain tonight's rules to Ms. Lockhart here?"

The guy he called Chuck gave me a lewd grin and said, "You're going to be our wager for tonight, Ms. Lockhart. Every round one of us wins, we strip one piece of your clothing. Whoever takes off the last thing you're wearing gets to take you into the room in the back. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?"

My face burned with humiliation. A crushing sense of helplessness wrapped around me so tight I could barely breathe.

The men ignored me after that, all of them wearing devilish grins as they sat back down at the table.

After the first round, someone yanked my shawl off. After the second, they tore my gown to shreds amid their jeers and laughter. After the third, my bra was ripped away and tossed to the floor, baring my chest to the room.

Philip ignored Sebastian and instead told his men to gather all the guests. His sharp gaze swept across the room, and once everyone fell silent, he raised his voice and said, "Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to be here today."First, I'd like to formally introduce my son, Isaac Stark. He's been keeping a low profile, starting a business here in Berdona. He's now founded Galaxeous Tech, and it's doing quite well. I hope you'll look out for him if any of you have opportunities to work together in the future."Then he turned slightly and brought me, standing beside Isaac, into the center of the room. His tone softened a shade as he continued, "Second, I'd like to introduce my daughter-in-law, Ms. Calista Lockhart."She used to be the Lockhart family's heiress, and she and my son have known each other for years. Their bond runs deep. Now that they're married, she's the future lady of the Stark household."At this point, Philip suddenly looked over at Sebastian,

Sebastian went on, "Nina just wanted to make me feel guilty so she could drive a wedge between us. I also found out everything Jenna—or Nina—did to you. I know you've suffered a lot because of us, and I've already made the Ward family pay."If you're still not over it, you can hit me, curse me, or punish me. Do every awful thing to me that I once did to you. Please, just give me another chance. Let me make up for all the crap I put you through, okay?"What he said completely blindsided me. I honestly hadn't expected Nina to set up such an elaborate scheme for Sebastian. In that moment, I finally let go of the past. After a brief silence, I said, "Sebastian, I accept your apology. At the same time, I want to apologize on my dad's behalf for forcing you into that marriage back then."I did a lot of thinking after the divorce. If my dad hadn't pushed you to marry me, Nina wouldn't have 'died.' Even though you two later did a lot of things that really hurt me, I've still always felt gu

Isaac said, "I even wondered if I'd agreed to take over the family business back then, maybe your dad would've thought about marrying you to me. After you got married, I really went off the rails for a while."Later, I heard Sebastian treated you badly and did all kinds of things to hurt you because of that ex of his. That was when I made up my mind—I had to hurry up and get powerful enough to steal you back."These past few years, I made a lot of money off projects. Last month, I used that money to start my own company. My dad saw that I'd achieved some success, so he finally understood what I wanted and forgave me for being such a rebel back then."He paused, then continued, "He and my sister even checked out my company and really liked its prospects. They invested a huge chunk of money in it. Now, I can finally stand in front of you with my head held high. I can finally confess to you for real, just as myself, and ask you to marry me."Everything Isaac said dropped into my heart

So, Isaac really owned all of these things? It took me a long time to find my voice. When I finally spoke, I couldn't stop the anger from bleeding into my voice. "Wow. Real nice, Isaac. Aren't you gonna explain where this money came from? What, are you some rich kid pretending to be broke just to mess with me? Or did you really pimp yourself out like Sebastian said?"Isaac panicked slightly at my outburst and scrambled to explain, "No, no! I swear I didn't do anything like that, Calista. It's true that I'm not some poor scholarship kid. I'm the only son of the Starks from Riverton—the so-called Stark heir that people in Berdona are always talking about."I just never cared about the family business. My dad and my sister have always been the ones running it. I rarely show my face in public, so everyone's only ever heard of me. They don't know what I look like."I was stunned. My voice came out cool yet edged with anger. "So, you really were a rich heir pretending to be broke just to

There was no way I'd last long going hungry and scraping by.Poverty puts every marriage to the test.Sebastian was certain that in a couple of days, Isaac and I would go our separate ways.
