Chapter 5

Author: Morning Light
To my annoyance, Jenna came looking for me again. She taunted, "Well, well. Your face healed fast, didn't it? Guess Seb's men went too easy on you last time."

I ignored her and tried to walk past her into the house.

She threw out an arm to block me, her chin tilted smugly. "Seb threw this huge party tonight just for my sister. Aren't you just dying of jealousy?"

I still didn't say a word.

My indifference pissed her off. Her face twisted with menace, and she hissed, "Looks like you didn't learn your lesson last time, Calista. Bitches like you just need more of that to be put in your place."

Before I could react, she threw something into the pool, then shouted, "Someone, help! Quick! Help me, please!"

Jenna's shouting drew a crowd, and Sebastian was among them. The moment she saw him, tears filled her eyes, and she cried, "Seb, I was just trying to apologize to Calista for what happened last time, but she refused to accept it. She even grabbed my necklace and threw it into the pool.

"That necklace was my sister's keepsake. It was her absolute favorite! Seb, please… You have to get someone to fish it out for me!"

At that, Sebastian turned a cold gaze on me. He no longer bothered to hide the contempt in his eyes; his stare cut into me like a knife.

I rushed to explain. "Sebastian, I didn't do anything. She threw it in herself."

He just curled his lips into a frosty smile, his voice like ice. "That's a pretty lousy lie, Calista. Why would Jenna throw away her sister's necklace? Since you're the one who tossed it, then you're the one who's going in after it. If you can't find it, don't bother coming back up."

With that, he grabbed my arm and started dragging me toward the pool.

I struggled hard, begging, "Sebastian, don't! I can't swim! And I'm pregnant with your—"

He shoved me into the water before I could finish. Chlorine burned my nose, and a sharp, searing pain exploded in my throat as the pool water rushed in.

In an instant, the world went silent. All I could hear was the frantic pounding of my own heart in my chest. Darkness closed in from every direction; terror swallowed me whole, and I blacked out.

When I came to again, I was lying in a hospital bed. My chest ached dully, and there was a faint, dragging pain low in my abdomen.

Sebastian was sitting by my bedside. The second he saw I was awake, he leaned in, about to say something.

I beat him to it and went straight to the only thing that mattered. "Did I lose the baby?"

He gave the smallest nod. A flicker of pain and tenderness crossed his eyes. But when he spoke, his words still came with barbs. "Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant, Calista? Why did you have to go and provoke Jenna?"

It wasn't until he saw the tears spilling down my cheeks that he hurried to swallow the rest of his reprimand. He started to comfort me instead.

"Don't cry. We're still young; we can have another baby," he said.

He reached out to wipe away my tears, but I turned my face away. I slowly shook my head and said firmly, "We're never having another baby, Sebastian. We're getting a divorce."

Philip ignored Sebastian and instead told his men to gather all the guests. His sharp gaze swept across the room, and once everyone fell silent, he raised his voice and said, "Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to be here today."First, I'd like to formally introduce my son, Isaac Stark. He's been keeping a low profile, starting a business here in Berdona. He's now founded Galaxeous Tech, and it's doing quite well. I hope you'll look out for him if any of you have opportunities to work together in the future."Then he turned slightly and brought me, standing beside Isaac, into the center of the room. His tone softened a shade as he continued, "Second, I'd like to introduce my daughter-in-law, Ms. Calista Lockhart."She used to be the Lockhart family's heiress, and she and my son have known each other for years. Their bond runs deep. Now that they're married, she's the future lady of the Stark household."At this point, Philip suddenly looked over at Sebastian,

Sebastian went on, "Nina just wanted to make me feel guilty so she could drive a wedge between us. I also found out everything Jenna—or Nina—did to you. I know you've suffered a lot because of us, and I've already made the Ward family pay."If you're still not over it, you can hit me, curse me, or punish me. Do every awful thing to me that I once did to you. Please, just give me another chance. Let me make up for all the crap I put you through, okay?"What he said completely blindsided me. I honestly hadn't expected Nina to set up such an elaborate scheme for Sebastian. In that moment, I finally let go of the past. After a brief silence, I said, "Sebastian, I accept your apology. At the same time, I want to apologize on my dad's behalf for forcing you into that marriage back then."I did a lot of thinking after the divorce. If my dad hadn't pushed you to marry me, Nina wouldn't have 'died.' Even though you two later did a lot of things that really hurt me, I've still always felt gu

Isaac said, "I even wondered if I'd agreed to take over the family business back then, maybe your dad would've thought about marrying you to me. After you got married, I really went off the rails for a while."Later, I heard Sebastian treated you badly and did all kinds of things to hurt you because of that ex of his. That was when I made up my mind—I had to hurry up and get powerful enough to steal you back."These past few years, I made a lot of money off projects. Last month, I used that money to start my own company. My dad saw that I'd achieved some success, so he finally understood what I wanted and forgave me for being such a rebel back then."He paused, then continued, "He and my sister even checked out my company and really liked its prospects. They invested a huge chunk of money in it. Now, I can finally stand in front of you with my head held high. I can finally confess to you for real, just as myself, and ask you to marry me."Everything Isaac said dropped into my heart

So, Isaac really owned all of these things? It took me a long time to find my voice. When I finally spoke, I couldn't stop the anger from bleeding into my voice. "Wow. Real nice, Isaac. Aren't you gonna explain where this money came from? What, are you some rich kid pretending to be broke just to mess with me? Or did you really pimp yourself out like Sebastian said?"Isaac panicked slightly at my outburst and scrambled to explain, "No, no! I swear I didn't do anything like that, Calista. It's true that I'm not some poor scholarship kid. I'm the only son of the Starks from Riverton—the so-called Stark heir that people in Berdona are always talking about."I just never cared about the family business. My dad and my sister have always been the ones running it. I rarely show my face in public, so everyone's only ever heard of me. They don't know what I look like."I was stunned. My voice came out cool yet edged with anger. "So, you really were a rich heir pretending to be broke just to
