Chapter 115

Patrick Banks

~•~

“Take Liam back…take him back to the jet,” I whispered to Valerie, my heart pounding in my chest. I had been trying to stay optimistic even though I already knew that we would be walking into a storm once we landed in New York.

Valerie couldn’t move, she froze in one spot.

Liam’s eyes popped up as he looked at me. “Daddy, why do you look scared? What is happening?” He asked in a slightly cracked voice.

My heart sank as I watched his reaction.

I didn’t want him to witness the police putting his father in handcuffs. I turned to Valerie, tapping her multiple times. “Just take him back. I didn’t do anything. Everything will be okay.”

Valerie responded with a scoff. “That was the same thing you said a few hours ago. But look at where we are right now.”

I reached out for her hands. “Do you want to traumatize Liam?” I asked, my voice barely audible.

She shook her head. “No.” Then she reached out for Liam’s hand and they both turned around and made their

Chapter 116Patrick Banks ~•~My mother’s words hurt more than any wound could ever. I couldn’t believe she would look me in the eyes and call me a murderer. I shook my head in disbelief as I sat down on the empty chair across from her. After I was settled down, we stared at each other for a few moments, silence stretching between us. I swallowed hard, ignoring the lump that had formed in my chest. “So you actually asked them to arrest me?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. My mother nodded. “Of course, you belong behind bars.” She spoke like a stranger, distant and detached. “I don’t even know who you are anymore…. or what you are.” Every word that came out of her mouth made my heart ache. My mother and I were very close. Ever since I became an adult, she has always treated me with respect and kindness. I loved her more than I even loved myself. But everything changed ever since Benjamin came back into the picture. I didn’t know what Benjamin had told her that made h

Chapter 114Valerie Will~•~We spent three days in Colorado. Throughout the stay there, I tried to distract myself from reality, but I couldn’t stop thinking about my problems back in New York. Nevertheless, I made sure Liam had no clue about how I was feeling. Patrick and I always forced a smile during all the activities on the trip. Liam was having a good time and that was all that mattered. “I hate that we have to leave today,” Patrick said as he loaded the last bag into the trunk of the car. “Yes. We could have stayed a little bit longer.” Liam groaned as he chimed in on the conversation. “Why do I have school? I can’t wait for the holidays.” I let out a soft chuckle, ruffling his hair. “You’ve had so much fun already. It’ll last you enough until the end of school.” After talking for a while, we settled down in the car. As the driver drove off to the airport, my eyes were fixed on the road. As I admired the beautiful city, I turned to Patrick. “What if we don’t go back?”

Chapter 113Patrick Banks ~•~“Are you done packing your bags?” I yelled loud enough for Valerie to hear through the door. “You need to hurry up. I’ll go check on Liam.” “Okay, I’ll be done soon.” After she responded, I made my way over to Liam’s room. The nanny had already packed a bag for him. He smiled and pulled me into a tight hug as soon as he saw me. “I’m so excited to go on this trip.” He exclaimed. “Yes. Everyone is excited.” I replied as I lifted him. “I can’t wait to tell my friends in school about my experience.” I couldn’t help but laugh. Liam was finally making friends in his school and I was grateful for that. “I’m sure they’ll be happy to listen to you.” “Is Mama ready?” Liam asked, his big eyes looking at me with so much excitement. “Almost,” I said, brushing back a strand of his hair. “You know how long it takes for her to get ready.” Liam giggled and continued talking but I zoned out of the conversation. My mind wandered back to Benjamin. It had been three

Chapter 112Valerie Will~•~I didn’t have any words to explain how I was feeling. Everything inside me was tangled — grief, fear, and confusion. I just kept my fingers crossed, hoping that Benjamin was going to be okay. If something worse happened, we were going to be in big trouble. I paced around the hospital hallway as I waited impatiently for Patrick to come outside. I wanted him to come out and tell me that everything was okay. But when the door finally swung open, I didn’t like the look on his face. It meant that something was wrong. “What happened? Were you able to convince her that you had nothing to do with it?” I asked, folding my hands across my chest and staring at him in anticipation. “No. She wouldn’t believe me.” “Wow,” I muttered under my breath. Patrick and I made our way to the doctor’s office. He told them to do whatever they could to save his brother, and he was willing to pay whatever price. Soon enough, we were out of the hospital. As we settled down i

Chapter 111Patrick Banks ~•~“What are you doing here? Have you come to complete your job?” My mother snapped as soon as she saw me walk into Benjamin’s room. “Mom! Lower your voice. People can hear you.” I said, my voice barely audible. She turned to Valerie. “Why did you come with him?” She asked, her voice cracking slightly. “Just stay outside and wait for me,” I told Valerie when I saw how uncomfortable she was. After she left, I turned to my mother. “Can you calm down? I didn’t do anything to him.” She rolled her eyes. “Yeah, right.” She took a few steps closer to Benjamin and placed her hand around his body, as though she was checking his temperature. “What did the doctor say happened to him? What is going on?” I asked, my voice strained and uneven. She let out a deep exhale. “Why are you pretending like you don’t know what is happening?” She asked, glaring at me. “I don’t know what you two were fighting about, but there were other ways to resolve it instead of trying to
