Chapter 208

Valerie Will

~•~

After Patrick left, Celeste explained everything that had happened to her. They broke into her house in the middle of the night to threaten her.

When she proved stubborn, they decided to take her away, but she managed to escape and ran barefoot until she got into an open mall.

She stayed there for a while and later found her way to a hotel. Celeste seemed so terrified as she talked about her experience.

“So what are you going to do about it?” I asked, biting my lip.

Celeste shrugged. “I’ll go to the police…..I don’t know. They want me to drop the case but I’m not doing that. Never. Charles deserves justice.”

I didn’t miss the determination in her eyes.

I was even too scared to tell her that I wasn’t testifying anymore. Or even about the fact that someone tampered with my car in front of her house.

Celeste dragged a hand over her head. “Thank you for coming here….and going over to my house. It feels good to know that I have a supportive friend.”

Chapter 216Patrick Banks ~•~“Why didn’t anybody tell me she was sick?” I yelled as I walked up the stairs. The housekeeper trailed behind me. “She specifically told us to keep it away from you.” She replied, her voice low. Wow. I couldn’t believe what was happening. Did she hate me that much? Apparently, my mother had been seriously sick for a few weeks. And she didn’t care to tell me about it. Nobody cared to tell me about it. The housekeeper was even skeptical about letting me go upstairs at first, she was scared that my mother would be upset. I had to threaten her before she eventually stepped out of the way. When I got to my mother’s room, I didn’t even bother to knock on the door, I just pushed the door open. Fortunately enough, she was awake. When she saw me, she had a puzzled expression on her face. “Who let you inside? Who even let you up here?” She asked, her voice faint. “I’ll make sure they get fired.” I held back a scoff. “Nobody is getting fired, Mom,” I sai

Chapter 215Valerie Will ~•~“I’ve been trying to reach you. You’ve been ignoring my calls. I asked you out to lunch and you declined—.” I zoned out of the conversation after Damien kept on whining about my communication skills on the other end of the phone. “Valerie! Are you even listening to me?” He snapped, his voice rising in anger. “Damien, I’ve had a long day and I’m not in the mood for your tantrums.” My grip tightened on the steering wheel as I guided the car to another street. “Tantrums? I’m just trying to let you know that what you’re doing isn’t fair. I’ve been really patient with you but you’ve been treating me like I’m nothing.” “I’m sorry about that but I’m not in the mood for this,” I replied, my voice cold. I honestly didn’t want to pick up his call at first, but he kept pestering me and I just wanted to get it over with. It wasn’t like I was mad at him or anything. I just had other important things to focus on in my personal life. My kids were still missing.

Chapter 214Patrick Banks ~•~“Why did you ask the police to leave and stop their investigation?” Valerie’s mom demanded with a hint of confusion in her voice. “Don’t you care about finding the kids?” I swallowed hard. “Just go home.” Her brows furrowed. “I don’t understand you, Patrick.” I exhaled sharply. “I know who took them, just go home. I’ll take care of everything.” I replied, my voice sharp. She let out a defeated sigh. “Fine.” She responded reluctantly before heading back to the car. After she left, I entered my car. I couldn’t believe that she would take the kids. How long had she been planning it for and how did she know it was the right time to strike? She was the least person who came to my mind when I thought about the list of people who could have taken the kids. When I saw her name flashing across my phone, I knew what she wanted to say immediately. I wasn’t surprised that she reached out to me on her own. I mean, the last time we spoke, she made it clear t

Chapter 213Valerie Will~•~My heart flew out of my chest immediately as I read the first one.[ Valerie, you need to call me back, something happened with the kids.] The kids? What the hell happened with the kids? I sat upright and dialed my mother’s number immediately. It took a while before she answered. “What happened with the kids?” I asked as the call connected. “Where are you? What is going on?” I could hear her heavy breathing from the other end of the line. “They’re missing…I think someone took them.” Someone took them? That line made my stomach churn. Oh my Liam! How could someone take them? Why?“How? How did it happen?” I got out of bed immediately. As I got dressed up, she explained everything to me. It didn’t make any sense. None of it made sense. How could she just leave them alone for five minutes and lose them? Or did they wander off somewhere else in the park? But it had been over two hours since she sent the text. If they were still there, she would have f

Chapter 212Patrick Banks ~•~I was having a nap when the sound of my buzzing phone woke me up. I tried to ignore it and get back to sleep, but the caller was persistent. Letting out a low groan, I opened my eyes and sat upright on the bed. I didn’t even look at the caller ID properly before answering the call. I pressed the phone closer to my ear, and just as I was about to speak, Valerie’s mom’s voice echoed through the other end of the line. “Patrick, I’ve been trying to reach Valerie but she isn’t answering. The kids are missing.” She said, her voice laced with fear. It clicked instantly in my head. “The kids are missing? What kids?” I got out of bed immediately. “Noah and Liam.” She trembled as she responded. I was so confused. How were the kids missing? I thought they skipped school and were at home. What the fuck was going on? “How are they missing? Where are you? What happened?” My questions came in like rapid fire. “I…we…we went to a park and I…” Her breath was sh

Chapter 211Valerie Will~•~After I told Patrick about what happened in the hotel room with Celeste, the rest of the ride was awkward. Maybe I shouldn’t have told him about it. But I was hurt and annoyed. I just wanted to blame someone else for what was happening in my life. I could see how devastated Patrick was just from his eyes. If he could take back everything he had done, I knew he would do it in the twinkle of an eye. But life didn’t work that way, he had already messed up and no matter what happened, that scar was going to be there. I thought I had gotten past it, but after so many years, the wounds still felt fresh. And the worst part was that everyone knew about it. Our business was all over the internet. I needed to find a way to grow a thick skin to that situation or I was never going to forgive Patrick. When we arrived at the house, it was almost noon. Patrick and I didn’t say a word to each other as we walked into the living room. I stayed down for a while but
