Chapter 71

Valerie Will

~•~

“Ma’am, can we speak to you for a minute?” One of the men spoke, his voice gentle.

“Is there any problem?” I tried to stay calm even though there was a storm brewing inside my heart.

“Just come with us.” Another one gestured for me to follow them somewhere. “We just want to verify something and you’ll be on your way if everything is okay.”

I swallowed hard. “Fine.” I gave a reluctant response.

I hoped I was just being paranoid and nobody had recognized me. I took Liam’s hand and trailed behind them as they led me through the terminals.

“Are you Valerie Will?” One of them asked as we came to a stop.

I nodded slowly. “Yes, is there any problem?”

“I’m sorry but we can’t let you get on the plane due to court orders. You can’t leave the country with your son.” He explained, his tone calm but firm. “We got a call from Mr. Patrick Banks and his lawyer.”

I felt Liam’s hand tightened around me.

“Wha…what?” I stammered.

I planned everything perfectly. No one

Chapter 93Valerie Will~•~I swallowed hard, ignoring the giant lump that had formed in my throat. “What are you saying, Jamal?” I asked, my hands tightening around the phone. “You heard me loud and clear.” He continued without a trace of warmth in his voice. “You had sex with Patrick too, right?” I closed my eyes briefly, trying to fight back the tears that were threatening to fall down my face. “The child doesn’t belong to Patrick. It’s yours.” He didn’t respond right away. An uncomfortable silence stretched between us. “Jamal, are you still there?” I asked, my voice trembling slightly. “Valerie, I don’t want to have anything to do with you.” He replied, his tone sharp. “If the baby is actually mine, I think you should get rid of it.” Wow. I couldn’t believe Jamal would say something like that to me. Did he really hate me that much? Why would he suggest that I get rid of the baby? My breath caught in my throat and I pulled the phone away slightly, staring at the screen as

Chapter 92Valerie Will~•~[ I just found out that I’m pregnant, please call me back.] After the text was delivered, I stared at Jamal's name on my phone, my fingers hovering around the call button. Different waves of emotions swirled through me — excitement, nervousness, and a hint of guilt. I wasn’t sure how he would react to the news. Or what it would mean for us. Letting out a deep sigh, I finally pressed the call button. The phone rang multiple times but he didn’t respond. My heart sank. Didn’t the text I sent mean anything to him? Just as I was about to drop my phone back on the table, a text came through. My heart raced as I saw it was from Jamal. [ I’m in a meeting. I’ll call you later.] For the first time after I told him about Patrick, he finally responded to my message. Maybe the child was a good thing after all. But as quickly as the hope bubbled up in my chest, doubt came crashing over. What if he was just being polite? What if the child didn’t mean anything to

Chapter 91Valerie Will~•~The sharp scent of disinfectant clawed its way into my senses, jolting me awake. As my eyes fluttered open, I saw myself in an unfamiliar room. How did I end up in the hospital? The last thing I remember was taking Liam downstairs for his birthday breakfast. I glanced around the room, but I didn’t see anybody. I tried to sit upright but was too weak to even move. What was going on? I couldn’t remember the last time I was admitted to the hospital because I barely got sick. “Nurse! Doctor!” I yelled as much as my dry throat would let me. The door opened almost instantly and a nurse rushed into the room. “You’re awake. Don’t move too much. You need to rest.” “Why? What happened to me?” I asked, my voice strained. She pressed a button on the wall. “The doctor will be here to explain everything. Just breathe, okay?” What was there to explain? I was confused about why she couldn’t just say it to me. Where was Liam? I was meant to be celebrating my son’s

Chapter 90Valerie Will~•~“Happy birthday, Liam.” I kissed him on the forehead as he opened his eyes. His lips curled into a small smile and he rubbed his eyes with his hands. “It’s already morning?” He asked, sitting upright on the bed. I nodded, a proud smile registered on my face. “Yes, baby. And it’s your birthday too.” I pulled him into a tight hug. “How does it feel being five?” Liam shrugged. “I don’t know, it feels amazing.” “I’m so proud of you.” I planted another kiss on his forehead. “You’ve grown so big.” It felt so surreal watching him grow — my little boy. I still remember the day he was born. I was alone and didn’t have anybody by my side. I kept the pregnancy a secret from everyone and fled to another city. At some point, I wondered if I had made a mistake by bringing him into a broken family. I thought I wouldn’t be able to raise him properly. But Liam turned out to be great. He was gentle, smart, and curious. He asked too many questions, loved too hard, and

Chapter 89Patrick Banks ~•~The question had knocked the breath out of me. I blinked. “What?” The doctor cleared his throat and gestured to the empty chair opposite him. “Have a seat. You need to look at this.” I sat down and he handed me a file with the test results. I didn’t even know what I was looking at. My mind kept wandering back to his question. “The test results show that you’re AB, and no child of yours can be O.” He explained when he saw how lost I looked. I closed my eyes briefly, dragging a hand down my face. “Are you trying to say Noah isn’t my son?” I asked, exhaling sharply. He nodded. “Yes, sir.” I opened my mouth to say something but no words came out. I couldn’t even think clearly. All I saw were flashes — Noah’s first birthday, the first time he called me Dad, the way Jessica had pushed for his first name to be Banks. How she swore up and down that he was mine. Everything now made sense as to why she didn’t want me to donate my blood. She looked so tense

Chapter 88Patrick Banks ~•~I was on my way out because Jessica called to say Noah had just been rushed to the hospital. But I ran into Valerie in the hallway and had to stop because her eyes looked red. I just wanted to check if she was okay. “Have you been crying? Valerie? Are you good?” I asked with a hint of concern in my voice. The last time I saw her, she was going out but refused to tell me when I asked her where she was off to. I couldn’t help but wonder what happened. She stepped back instantly as I tried to touch her. “Don’t fucking touch me.” She snapped, her gaze burning with fury. “You’ve ruined everything for me. I hate you so much.” I blinked, letting out a sharp exhale. “What are you talking about?” I asked, genuinely confused. Valerie scoffed. “You should be happy now. You’re happy now. You’ve finally gotten what you wanted.” She continued, her voice laced with disdain. I honestly had no idea what she was talking about. “I’m just concerned about you. Is eve
