Troy

"Did you call 911?" Olivia's voice was sharp, professional. Lawyer mode.

"No." The word came out cracked. "No, I... I just found her. I just woke up and she was..."

I couldn't finish the sentence. Couldn't say the word dead again. It felt too big, too final.

"Okay." Olivia was quiet for a moment, and I could hear her thinking. "Okay, Troy. I need you to tell me exactly what happened. Start from the beginning."

I looked at Fiona's body on my couch. The blanket had slipped further, and I could see more of her pale arm. She looked so small, so different from the sharp-tongued woman who'd argued with me about everything last night.

"We went to sleep," I said, my voice breaking again. "She was tired, and drunk, and I gave her the couch. I fell asleep in the chair, just... watching. Making sure she was okay. And when I woke up, she wasn't..." I swallowed hard. "She wasn't waking up."

The silence on the other end stretched long enough that I started to wonder if Olivia had hung up. Then

Maya"Oh. Okay." Olivia's response was careful, neutral.I could tell she wanted to ask what I planned to do about my mother's request, but something stopped her. Maybe the way I was staring out the window, or maybe she just knew me well enough to recognize when I wasn't ready for questions. Before I could form a complete thought about any of it, Vincent spoke up from the driver's seat."Maybe you should go see her," he said, catching my eyes in the rearview mirror. "Hear what she has to say. Olivia and I can deal with the situation with your friend Troy."I shook my head immediately. "No. I don't care what my mother wants. I want to be there when we meet Troy."The words came out more firmly than I'd expected, but even as I said them, something felt hollow about the whole thing. Was I just trading one uncomfortable situation for another? Yes, I wanted to see Troy, but at the same time, I really didn't. Part of me thought it would be easier to just keep ignoring things, pretending none

  • Divorced My CEO Husband, He Came Begging   What Had the Bitch Been Thinking

Troy I woke up with my neck screaming at me, twisted at an angle that chairs weren't designed for. The book I'd been reading was on the floor beside me, pages bent where it had fallen. Sunlight was streaming through the windows at all the wrong angles, and my first coherent thought was fuck, what time is it? The digital clock on the side table read 7:12 AM. Shit. Fiona had asked me to get her home by six. Six-thirty at the latest. I'd fallen asleep in the chair like some kind of amateur babysitter, and now she was going to wake up pissed and probably hungover, demanding I drive her across town in rush hour traffic. "Fiona," I called out, stretching the kinks out of my back. "Hey, Princess. We overslept." She didn't move. She was still curled up on the couch exactly how I'd left her, the blanket tucked around her shoulders, one arm hanging off the edge. Her hair was spread across the pillow, dark against the fabric. She looked peaceful, which was probably the first time I'd seen F

  • Divorced My CEO Husband, He Came Begging   Troy Told Me

MayaThe hallway felt like it was closing in on me. Vincent's hand was still on my arm, gentle but insistent, and Olivia was hovering nearby with that concerned expression I was getting tired of seeing. Everyone always looking at me like I might break.I yanked my arm away from Vincent, harder than I needed to, and took several steps back until there was space between us. Distance. Room to breathe without feeling their eyes on me, cataloging every reaction, every sign that I was losing it."Maya," Vincent said carefully, like he was approaching a spooked animal. "I know you're mourning—""I'm not mourning anyone." The words came out sharp, defensive. "Don't fucking tell me what I'm doing."Vincent's expression didn't change. "Right, Miss Vega."He was using that tone again. The one he'd used with Giuseppe when the old man was being unreasonable, indulgent but firm. It made me want to hit something."You need to sit down," Vincent continued, glancing around the empty hallway. "We can't

  • Divorced My CEO Husband, He Came Begging   I Can't Cry for the Bitch

MayaFiona was dead. The words echoed in my head like they were bouncing around in an empty room. Fiona. Dead. Two words that should have meant something, should have triggered some kind of response. Grief. Shock. Relief, maybe, given how much hell she'd put me through. But there was nothing. Just this strange, detached observation, like Olivia had told me the weather forecast.Everything had gone completely silent. I could see Olivia's mouth moving, see Vincent's concerned expression, but it was like someone had hit the mute button on the world. Their voices reached me from very far away, muffled and distorted.I couldn't cry for the bitch. That was the first clear thought that cut through the static in my brain. Fiona had tried to destroy my mar

  • Divorced My CEO Husband, He Came Begging   The Last Thing She Saw

FionaThe notification on my phone made my stomach drop. I'd sent that message hours ago, before I'd even left for the club, when I was still drunk enough to think begging might work. Please, Daniel. I just need to see you. Five minutes. His response had come through just now, brutal in its simplicity:Get a life, Fiona. Find someone else to fix your daddy issues.I stared at the screen, reading it twice, then a third time, like the words might rearrange themselves into something less humiliating. They didn't."Everything okay?" Troy asked, but I was already sliding that practiced smile back into place."Everything's fine. Just... work stu
