Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
I couldn't wait for them to leave. The moment they stepped outside, I shut the door in their faces, leaving Libby and Zac stomping their feet in frustration outside.

"That arrogant bastard! No way! I can't leave Tiana with Kyle. I need to be closer to her."

As Libby and Zac looked at the small villa next door, they started scheming.

"A place like this is a bit small, but I can put up with it for Tiana!"

Libby walked up to the front door of the villa, knocked with absolute confidence, and said to the owner, "Hey, we're buying this place. Here's 50 thousand dollars."

The homeowner's eyes went wide. Staring at them like they were insane, he snapped, "Are you two out of your minds? 50 thousand dollars? A house like this in this neighborhood goes for at least a million! Get the hell out of here!"

With that, he slammed the door shut.

Libby and Zac exchanged a look, their faces full of disdain.

Zac muttered under his breath, "Is this guy nuts? Making up prices like that. We've only been out of Calveria for ten years, and this beat-up house is supposed to be worth a million dollars? What does he think it's made of, gold?"

Libby chimed in, "Seriously. That kind of price makes sense for Harvelle, but trying to rip us off in Calveria? Taking a liking to this house was doing them a favor! Pft!"

I couldn't help but laugh when I overheard their complaints. This was prime real estate in the heart of Somerset. One million dollars was a steal! Ten years abroad had turned these two into absolute bumpkins.

Libby and Zac walked away, cursing all the way.

The next day, the sun was shining as the licensing summit began right on time in the city's most luxurious banquet hall. The room was packed with high society and industry elites. Libby and Zac walked in dressed to the nines, their eyes full of smug confidence.

Just then, I walked into the hall with a steady stride. Sure enough, the person they came back to beg was me.

Libby caught sight of me immediately. A sneer instantly spread across her face. She rushed over and squeaked, "Well, well, Kyle, what are you doing at a high-end event like this? Someone like you doesn't belong here. You're just here to cause trouble, aren't you?"

I remained calm and composed. "If you two can be here, why can't I?"

Libby was as arrogant as ever. She was in for a real surprise in a minute.

She refused to let it go. Putting her hands on her hips, she yelled to the crowd, "Everyone, look! This guy is here to cause trouble.

"He's dead broke and can't even afford decent clothes, so how could he possibly have anything to do with a prestigious licensing summit like this? Security! Where are the guards? Throw him out!"

The surrounding crowd turned to stare and whispered among themselves. Hearing the commotion, a security guard quickly ran over and said awkwardly, "Sir, please cooperate with us."

Frowning, I was just about to speak when someone in the crowd shouted, "Mr. Stewart is here!"

The crowd parted, and Toby Stewart, the organizer of the summit, came striding over.

Taking in the scene, Toby immediately barked, "Stop right there! What are you doing?"

Libby hurried over, pointing at me. "Mr. Stewart, you're just in time. This guy's background is shady. He's definitely here to ruin things. You can't let him ruin today's summit."

Toby looked at Libby in confusion, then looked at me, his face turning solemn. "What nonsense are you talking about? This is Mr. Duncan, the very owner of the patent being licensed today!"

Right then, the surrounding crowd turned their criticism onto Zac and Libby. "You've gone too far! How could you go around beating people up?""Seriously. You're just jealous because you've got no skills yourself. Now look at what happened! You've ruined the whole thing!"Under the weight of everyone's scolding, Zac and Libby hung their heads in shame. They never imagined that a moment of impulse would escalate things to this point.Libby felt consumed by regret. She stole a quiet glance at me, thinking to herself, "Kyle, I lost completely this time. I was so blind…"However, everything was already beyond repair.Andrew looked at me with approval in his eyes and suggested, "Kyle, your patent technology has vast prospects. I think we should hold an auction and invite more capable companies to compete. That way, we'll maximize the patent's value while injecting new momentum into our city's tech growth."I pondered for a moment before nodding in agreement. "Mr. Mayor, you're very ri

Though Zac was completely unwilling, under the threatening gaze of Jack and the commanding presence of Andrew, he knew he had no other choice. He slowly walked up to me, hung his head, and mumbled, "Kyle, I-I'm sorry. I was wrong."Libby was still making a final struggle. Biting her lip with darting eyes, she refused to open her mouth.I just stared at her coldly, saying nothing.Jack turned his gaze to Libby. His voice was authoritative. "Ms. Grant, you as well."Feeling the overwhelming pressure around her, Libby knew she couldn't escape it any longer. She dragged her feet over to me and uttered with utmost reluctance, "I-I'm sorry too."However, I had no intention of forgiving them so easily. I asked coldly, "You think a flimsy apology settles this? You think we can just sweep what you two just did to me under the rug?"Libby and Zac felt their hearts sink, unsure what else I would demand.Right then, Andrew spoke up. "Kyle, whatever you decide to do, I'll support you as lon

Toby hurried forward and explained the whole story from start to finish.By the time he finished, Andrew was shaking with rage. Pointing a finger at Zac and Libby, he snapped, "You two are completely out of control! Kyle is a key tech talent supported by our city, and his patent is vital to our development."Not only did you assault him, but you also disrupted a public event. You will be punished to the fullest extent of the law!"Zac and Libby collapsed to the floor in sheer terror, begging for mercy.Only then did the surrounding crowd snap back to reality and realize just how stupid they had been.Catching my breath, I said weakly, "Mr. Mayor, I'm sorry for causing everyone so much trouble. I—"Andrew patted my shoulder, comforting me, "Kyle, don't worry. I will personally see this investigated to the very end and get you full justice."Libby was still in absolute shock and disbelief. Her eyes went wide, and her face was filled with denial before she suddenly shrieked hysteri

The second those words left my mouth, the crowd erupted in skepticism."You? Stop kidding around!" Zac sneered, curling his lip in disdain."I'm the one who's been handling the patent paperwork this whole time! I provided all the documents and details. Now you pop out of nowhere claiming you're the owner? Who do you think is going to fall for that?""I'm telling the truth! This patent belongs to me!" I retorted.Nobody believed a word. A few hot-headed young guys charged forward and started punching and kicking me."Stop talking trash!""Fraud! How dare you impersonate the owner?" They shouted insults with every blow.I was beaten black and blue, scrambling on the floor in complete humiliation. "Stop! Stop it!"I finally managed to break free. I frantically dug a certificate out of my bag and shouted, "Look! This is my patent certificate! You have to believe me now! It's right here in black and white! The owner of this patent is me, Kyle Duncan!"The crowd gathered around, but

Toby's face turned livid with rage as he barked, "Libby, you are being completely unreasonable! I've been in this industry for years with an impeccable reputation! Do you really think I'd pull a stunt like that? Mr. Duncan is the legal owner of this patent, and that is a hard fact!"Zac stepped up too, his expression twisting into a vicious sneer. "Hah! What fact? Sounds to me like a cover-up! If we don't get a real explanation today, this isn't over!"He rolled up his sleeves, and he looked like he was about to charge. As I watched from the side, a mix of disappointment and anger flashed through my eyes."Zac, Libby, haven't you made enough of a scene?" I asked coldly. "The truth is right in front of you, yet you refuse to accept it. It's beyond ridiculous."That was the spark that set Libby off. She lunged at me like a madwoman, raining blows down on me as she screamed, "You fraud! How could you possibly be the patent holder? You're just here to wreck things! I'm going to teach

As soon as Toby said that, the entire room was stunned into silence.Libby's eyes went wide with pure disbelief. She stuttered, "T-That's impossible! Mr. Stewart, are you sure you didn't make a mistake? He's just a good-for-nothing loser."Toby frowned, visibly annoyed by her attitude. "How could I possibly be mistaken? Mr. Duncan's patent is highly regarded in the industry, and this entire summit was organized in recognition of his work. If you're going to keep causing a scene, I'm going to have to ask you to leave!"Libby felt her head spin. She never could have imagined that the man she once looked down on could achieve something like this.Beside her, Zac stood frozen like a wooden statue. All the smugness drained from his face in an instant. As I looked at the two of them, a mix of emotions washed over me, though I kept my tone flat. "Libby, maybe now you know better than to look down on people."Libby's face flushed bright red, then turned pale as she tried to make excuses.
