JOANNA.

I stilled for a minute, clutching my hands on my towel. I felt a heavy weight in my chest, unable to explain how I felt at the moment. Asher was serving Cassandra breakfast in bed? Something I would never experience even if I were sick. Asher wouldn't care. I really really wanted to hold back my tears right now. Nothing would make Asher love me, would there?

I stood lost for a moment, gazing at them, words just couldn't express how I felt. I felt so terrible and useless. Asher's gaze was on me as he slowly took his hands off Cassandra’s hair. For a moment, I thought I saw a bit of guilt in Asher's eyes..

Guilty? I know I was just being delusional and hopeless.

Cassandra cleared her throat to break the awkward silence.

“I will start going to the room, Asher.. You have to prepare for work.” Cassandra made attempts to stand up from the bed as Asher helped her, taking the food tray away from her..

Without a word, I walked over to the vanity area to get my skincare ro

LUTHER’S POVJoanna’s voice cracked again, but this time it wasn’t just pain—it was exhaustion, pent-up emotion finally spilling over.“I don’t know what to do,” she said, her voice rising slightly. “I just I don’t know…”Her shoulders shook, her lips parted as if her heart couldn’t hold it in anymore.“I’ve missed you,” she blurted out, her voice breaking mid-sentence. “I couldn’t bring myself to rest. I tried shutting you out. I tried acting like it was for the best, but I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t eat I’ve just… I’ve just been so lost.”Tears trailed down her cheeks. She was spiraling in emotion, words falling from her lips in a rush.“I was confused… I thought it would save you from a life of regrets. But all I’ve done is lose you in the process. And—”“Enough,” I said softly, placing my hand gently over her lips. Her eyes widened, blinking up at me, breath shaky.“You being here,” I said, voice lower now, more certain, “is enough for me.”I swallowed hard, brushing my thumb gent

LUTHER. The whiteness of the ceiling blurred into focus. My head throbbed gently, and my throat was dry like sandpaper. I blinked again, adjusting to the room's stillness — until I saw a figure seated nearby.Cathy.I sat up slightly, my heart skipping. My eyes scanned the room again. But Joanna wasn’t there.Panic crept in like a wave rising too fast.“Where is she?” I croaked. “Joanna… where’s Joanna?”Cathy stood up slowly and placed a hand on the chair. “She stepped out.”“Stepped out to where?” I asked, my voice sharper. “Did she leave?”“No, no. She didn’t,” Cathy said quickly. “She went to get something. She said she’d be back soon.”I exhaled shakily and leaned back, my hand on my chest.God.Cathy picked up a bottle of water and held it out to me. “I think you need this.”I stared at it for a second, still on edge. “I’m fine.”She gave me a gentle look. “Please. You passed out. You need to hydrate.”I sighed and took the bottle from her. Just as I raised it to my lips, the d

JOANNA. i was at the hospital, I sat on the cold bench outside the ward, hands trembling, knees bouncing restlessly. My heart hadn't stopped racing since the moment he collapsed.I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. It was a blur of screaming, people rushing, an ambulance. He was sick..The doctor finally stepped out, removing his gloves as he approached me. “Miss Wright?”I stood instantly. “Yes. How is he? What happened to him?”“He’s stable now. He passed out from a combination of exhaustion and emotional stress. His vitals were all over the place — elevated blood pressure, severe fatigue. Has he been eating properly?”I hesitated. “I... I don’t think so.”The doctor gave a small nod. “Well, that adds up. It looks like he hasn’t had proper meals in days. That, combined with extreme mental strain... the body can only take so much before it shuts down.”“So… what now?” I asked, trying to steady the guilt choking my voice.“He just needs rest. Real rest. Proper food, hydrat

JOANNA It had been a week.Seven long, heavy days of hiding behind silence.I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the luggage I had packed the night before.I glanced at my phone on the dresser. The screen was black, still. Quiet. For the first time in days.Luther hadn’t called in the past two days. Before that, his name had lit up my screen every few hours. Calls. Messages. Voice notes I never opened. He tried. He didn’t give up.But I had shut him out.Again.I sucked in a slow breath, my chest tightening as I ran my palm over the soft leather handle of the suitcase. In my mind, I told myself this was right. That I was protecting him. That what my father said made sense. That Luther deserved more. Deserved a full life. A family.A child. But the more I tried to convince myself, the emptier I felt. Was it really right to cut him off without a word? No goodbye. No closure. Just silence? It wasn’t the first time I’d done this. Shutting people out was second nature. It was easier th

LUTHER. The light was sharp. Too sharp.I squinted, groaned, and sat up slowly, my head pounding like someone had taken a hammer to my skull.Where the fuck am I?My eyes darted around the room, white curtains, a beige wall, unfamiliar decor. This wasn’t my bedroom. This wasn’t my mansion..This wasn’t anywhere I recognized. And then I heard the clink of a cup.I turned sharply, too sharply and felt a stab of pain in my temple. I hissed, grabbing my head.Standing a few feet away, in full work clothes and heels, was Cathy.Placing a steaming cup of coffee on a small table.“Good morning sir,” she said, like it was completely normal for me to be waking up… wherever here was.I blinked. “What the hell is going on? Where am I? What happened last night?”She turned to face me calmly. “You don’t remember?”“No,” I said slowly, eyes narrowing. “Why are you here? What is this place? Is this your house?”Cathy gave a small nod. “You were too drunk to get home. I couldn’t just let you drive, a

LUTHER. "Shit!" I slammed my palm against the steering wheel, my knuckles turning white. The sound of the horn blared once before I yanked my hand off, breathing hard. “What the fuck is happening?”The traffic lights blurred before my eyes. Or maybe it was the heat in my head, or the heartbreak twisting my chest like a fist.I grabbed my phone again, thumb trembling as I redialed her number.Ring.“Pick up, Jo... Please.”Ring.Nothing.Voicemail.I exhaled sharply, flinging the phone onto the passenger seat. Goddammit.I didn’t even know how I drove to the office. My body worked on autopilot while my mind spun in a storm of confusion, hurt, and fury.Nothing about today was normal. Everything seemed out of place. I hated the way things were going! One minute it's as if everything was going to be okay! The next minute, it's all gone..I killed the engine and just sat there for a second, staring at my reflection in the rearview mirror. Still gripping the wheel, I closed my eyes for a s
