Seeing that I didn't say anything, Marshall became even angrier.
"Why aren't you talking? Do you want to play dumb?" he said and kept scolding me.
"Mr. Schultz, I took her to the hospital. That's all. What's the big deal? Your secretary is injured, and you don't have a clue. Can't I express my concerns?" Lucas said lazily.
Hearing his words, I suddenly had the urge to punch him.
His words would only make others more suspicious.
As expected, Marshall looked at me meaningfully and no longer said anything.
The meeting continued, and finally, I got off work.
I turned on my phone and was immediately bombarded by texts and missed calls from Derek.
I glanced at the phone screen and then deleted all the texts. After that, I blacklisted Derek's number and tossed my phone in my bag.
Now I was just waiting for Tasha to get back.
After a few peaceful days, both my state of mind and body recovered quite a bit.
One day, just as I got off work, my phone rang. I picked it up and it was Fiona.
I hesitated for a second before picking it up.
"Cynthia, Derek says you're divorcing him. Is that true?" Fiona sounded worried on the phone.
I didn't know what kind of excuse Derek used to explain to Fiona. Anyway, she kept telling me to go home.
"Cynthia, don't be angry. Come back, and you guys can sit down and talk. Don't make any rash decisions."
I thought, 'Talk to him?
How can I possibly do that? The marks on my wrists where he tied them with the rope are still obvious.'
"Fiona, I have already decided. I'm not going back to Derek," I said firmly. "I hope that you can talk to him and let him leave me alone. OK?"
I could only hope that Fiona, who had always doted on me, could help me. She was probably the only one who could talk some sense into Derek, that lunatic.
"Cynthia, even if you want to divorce, you have to go home. You need to negotiate over the divorce papers and then go to court together."
Fiona was right. Without the paperwork, Derek and I were still married.
She promised me again and again that she would make sure Derek cleared things up with me and that he wouldn't do anything to me with her around.
Fiona was always good to me, and everyone knew that. I was sure she wouldn't help Derek hurt me.
After pondering for a few minutes, I decided to take Fiona's advice. I planned on going back to Derek's place at the Beech Pack.
After making up my mind, I called a taxi.
The moment I knocked on Derek's door, Fiona opened it and pulled me into the living room.
With tears in her eyes, she said, "Cynthia, how can you leave? Do you know that you are already a daughter to me? I know. It's all Derek's fault. He has paid too much attention to the pack, and he doesn't take you seriously."
I glanced at the indifferent Derek and pulled Fiona to sit on the sofa.
"Fiona, even if I divorce Derek, you are still like a mother to me."
Seeing that I was so resolute, Fiona did not continue to persuade me.
She wiped her tears and said, "It seems that you have made up your mind already. In that case, I won't stand in your way anymore. But it's getting late now, and the court is closed, so why don't you stay here for the night? You may go tomorrow."
"Fiona, thank you for your understanding," I said gratefully. I glanced at Derek and thought of what happened that day.
So, I hesitated for a second and said, "Now that I have decided to divorce, I'd better have a separate room."
"Sure. I'll sort out the guest room for you," Fiona agreed readily.
I took a quilt and slept in the guest room, and it took me a long time before I fell asleep. Soon after, I woke up because I was thirsty.
I got up to fetch a glass of water, and when I reached the door, I realized that the guest room door wouldn't open.
In an instant, I let go of the doorknob and slumped down on the floor as the despair of being tied up and imprisoned by Derek came over me again.
I was so stupid.
I put myself in the same situation as a few days ago when Derek held me captive.
I couldn't believe how stupid I was. I walked in here voluntarily and became Derek's captive again.
I didn't have much time to think. I looked around and saw that my bag was gone again. I figured that Derek took it away while I was asleep, and locked the guest room from the outside without Fiona knowing.
I looked around for something to unlock the door but couldn't find anything. It looked like Derek learned his lesson. No wonder he said the guest room was kind of a mess and offered to tidy it up before I went in.
Back then, I was wary of him, but the guest room was indeed untidy, and I was a bit of a neat freak, so I let him.
It seemed that the door could not be opened from the inside, so I had to wait for help from Fiona, who had always been kind to me.
I sat motionless on a stool in the guest room and waited until morning.
Derek came in with breakfast. He looked at me as if nothing had happened and said gently, "Cynthia, have some breakfast."
I looked warily at the glass of milk in his hand. Of course, I wouldn't be so stupid to drink it. I asked him, "Derek, do you have any conscience or not? I've been with you for five years. You have been lying to me all along just to have a baby?"
"I really love you. Why else would I want to have a baby with you?" he said, looking at me with affection.
He picked up the glass of milk, blew it, acting that he was so considerate, and handed the glass over.
I smiled coldly and pushed his hand away.
He frowned and said, looking nothing but worried, "Darling, you can't do without food. You'll get sick."
I was so sick that I was not in the slightest mood to eat the food he handed me.
"Derek, you're just afraid that no one will give birth to your baby if I starve to death. Am I right?" I said coldly.
He responded, his face no different from the one I was so in love with before, his tone as affectionate as ever.
"Darling, I love you. You are my mate. Of course, I want you to give birth to our baby."
I was shocked when I heard what Derek said.Had Derek lost his mind? I didn't get it. Why was he still pretending to be a nice man when things had already come to this point?I wanted to expose his disguise, but he didn't give me the chance. Before I opened my mouth to speak, Derek had already smiled and walked to me. He reached out and grabbed my chin, squeezing it so hard that I had to open my mouth and exhale in pain.He was about to pour the glass of hot milk into my mouth with his other hand.I struggled hard because I saw that the glass of milk was steaming. If I let him get his way, the milk would worsen the wound in my mouth.I'd choke, if not burnt.I aimed at his crotch and kicked. He crouched on the ground, holding his manhood, and screamed in pain.I took the opportunity to run out of the guest room. As I ran, I shouted, "Fiona! Fiona! Where are you?"Soon, Fiona ran out of her room. She looked at me in surprise.I grabbed her arm at once, and my tears streamed down my fac
After making up my mind, I became much calmer.Over the next few days, I quietly ate all the food Fiona brought in. Nutrition was the only way I could heal.Although my injuries were gradually recovering, I still couldn't shift. All I could do was conserve my energy and wait for my chance. It was Friday again, and Derek needed to attend the pack meeting, which usually lasted until late at night.Fiona was the only one around right now.The wound on my head had almost healed, and I started looking for something in the guest room I could use to call for help.Luckily, there were plenty of pens and paper in the guest room. I wrote the words for help on a piece of paper and threw the paper out of the window, waiting for some kind people to help me.To be sure, I found a book on the shelf with a ten-dollar bill I had put inside before. I used the bill to wrap the piece of paper, and threw it out.I leaned quietly on the windowsill and waited. A woman in her forties picked up the money, ope
Lucas' words were tempting to me. Right now, I did not have a husband or a job, and if I returned to Texas, my parents would be worried about me.I wanted to stay in Los Angeles for some time before going back. So, seeking a job was the most important thing for me at the moment.I looked at Lucas, thinking about how to answer him.Lucas smiled as I hesitated, "As I said before, I'll offer you a triple salary, but..."He paused and looked me up and down.He looked at me with fixed eyes and made me feel a little nervous.I didn't know what Lucas was going to say next because he was hard to predict."But your workload will also be tripled," Lucas continued. He rolled down the car window, and his tone was a little subtle.I blushed instantly because of his meaningful attitude.I shouldn't have had any expectations for him. I walked forward quickly and didn't bother to respond to him. Unexpectedly, Lucas drove s
I chewed on my food slowly and didn't know what reason I could use to put Lucas off. In the end, I decided to keep silent. "Why aren't you talking?" Lucas continued to ask. I lowered my head and kept silent, ignoring him. He had no choice but to give up. After the meal, he took me to a nearby mall. "You need to get some new clothes," Lucas said and sized me up. I said with dissatisfaction, "Why? I don't need any new clothes." I didn't have much savings for new clothes. Lucas raised his eyebrows and said disdainfully, "Look at the clothes you are wearing now. They are cheap and prove that you have bad taste in clothing." "How can you judge me like that?" I complained. "If it was only for yourself, I wouldn't care about it." Lucas snorted coldly. "But you are going to be my secretary and represent me. How will my clients see me if you wear such shabby clothes?" I picked some less expensive dresses
"Okay." I nodded obediently when I heard what Lucas said.It was professional.Lucas looked at me meaningfully. He paused for seconds before saying, "Cynthia, as a secretary, you have done a good job."As he spoke, his eyes were fixed on my chest, and my face immediately blushed.I looked around. Fortunately, there was no one else."Cynthia?"I put down the knife and fork. Hearing the familiar voice behind me, I wanted to escape right away.If not for Derek's arrival, I would have forgotten that the restaurant was close to his company and that he often came for lunch.Derek kept staring at me. His eyes were so fierce, as if trying to see through me.He looked at Lucas next to me and seemed to realize something."No wonder you wanted to divorce me. It turns out that you also cheated on me."The word "also" sounded repulsive to me. It was as if he and I were the same kind of people.I con
As I walked, I wondered who this woman was. She looked vulgar and was not the same kind of person as Tasha.I felt strange. Since Tasha and I became friends, we shared everything. If Tasha had a new friend, why wouldn't she tell me?I looked at the woman. We were both somewhat embarrassed. At that time, Tasha returned."Tasha, your friend is here. Why didn't you tell me?" I walked over and asked. The strange woman turned to me. Tasha glared at her and then Tasha smiled at me.She said, "I don't have a husband. Can't I have a few more friends?""Of course you can," I said with a smile.I breathed a sigh of relief when Tasha joked with me.I put my bag on the sofa and went to the bathroom. When I came out, I saw a person sitting next to Tasha's friend."Tasha, is there another guest?"Tasha did not answer me. I felt a little strange and walked closer, only to see Derek's malicious face.I
"How is it? Am I hotter than Catherine?" Melinda said proudly as she panted."Come on. You are my mate. No one can be compared to you," Derek said gently. He was not stingy with his praise.Derek actually had another lover before Melinda, which disgusted me a lot.It turned out that he had been cheating all along.I was drugged by Derek, and before I fainted, I heard Catherine's name vaguely and remembered the name. From what Melinda said just now, I could guess who Catherine was. If I was right, Catherine should have been Derek's previous lover and the woman in the video.Derek hooked up with his current lover Melinda, so he abandoned Catherine. Catherine was furious and sent me the video to take revenge on Derek.I didn't expect that it was Derek's ex-lover who told me the truth. I was somewhat grateful to Catherine. If not for her, I wouldn't be able to see Derek's true colors. It was noon, and I had been impri
As Lucas spoke, there was no smile on his face.As an Alpha, his aura was powerful and dangerous. It made him look particularly terrifying.I could tell that Lucas was furious at the moment. After Lucas gave his order, those strong men said yes spontaneously. Then, they walked into the house and closed the door. Soon after, heart-wrenching screams came through the door.Lucas carried me to the car. I watched as the car drove away from Tasha's house, and I finally felt a little relieved.Lucas was driving quietly. I couldn't help but ask, "How did you find me?"His expression had returned to normal. He said, "When I called you, I felt strange because you kept addressing me as Marshall. At first, I thought that I called you at the wrong time, so I hung up. But soon, I realized that something was off. I found the location of your phone and got a locksmith to open the door to Tasha's house.""And..." Lucas paus
