The morning light came in through the windows, but it didn’t make me feel any better. I was sitting on the couch, holding a cup of coffee that had already gone cold.

I hadn't slept a blink after that call last night. Xander was on the phone again, pacing back and forth across the living room. He didn’t say much, he just listened and gave short replies.

When he hung up, he turned to me.

“The police are sending a team here, they want to go through the phone records and investigate the attack directly from the estate.”

I gave a small nod, it was much better than sitting around waiting for another threat.

By early afternoon, the house was busy. Detectives, tech experts, and officers were everywhere, checking the security system, collecting evidence.

I was taking a walk round the house when a woman walked up to me, “Mrs Kendricks, I am Detective Ramirez, we need to go over the call you received,” she said.

I told her everything I remembered, the voice, what it said and how it made me feel. She took notes and asked a few follow-up questions. Her face didn’t give much away.

“Was there any background noise? Anything that might help us track the source?” She asked after waiting a few moment.

“No, just the voice. It was calm Like they were sure nothing could touch them.”

She looked up. “That’s useful.”

I wasn’t sure how, but I hoped it was.

“We’re going to trace the source,” she said. “If this person contacted you once, chances are they’ve left a trail.”

Xander had been pulled into a separate room to meet with another group. They were going through his emails, phone logs, and surveillance footage. I heard bits and pieces—something about encrypted messaging and requesting access to his private server.

The day dragged on, but something felt off.

Later that evening, Detective Ramirez came back. Her expression was tight.

“Where’s Mr. Kendricks?” she asked.

“In the study,” I said. “Why?”

“We need to speak with him again. It’s about some electronic communications we discovered.”

I followed her down the hallway, Xander was sitting at the desk, going over some reports with one of the officers. Ramirez didn’t waste time.

He looked up when we entered. Ramirez held a tablet, her tone calm but firm.

“We found something. Emails from your server, sent from your home network.”

He frowned. “What emails?”

She turned the screen to face him. “These, they reference the security layout of this estate, guard rotations, access times. The timestamps place them before the attack.”

Xander stood up slowly. “That’s not possible. I didn’t write or send any of that.”

“They came from your personal laptop, Mr. Kendricks.”

“I have two-step authentication, physical access is required. Someone would’ve had to break in.”

“There’s no evidence of a break-in and we found no signs of tampering on the device, no foreign software and no remote access.”

“That doesn’t mean anything,” he snapped. “You think I staged a hit on my own house?”

“We’re not accusing you yet,” Ramirez said evenly. “But we need to bring you in for questioning. You’re not under arrest, but you will be detained until we sort this out.”

Another officer stepped forward with cuffs.

“Seriously?” he muttered. “You’re cuffing me?”

“Standard protocol,” Ramirez replied.

I stepped forward. “This is insane, he’s the one who protected me, who’s been trying to find out who’s behind all this.”

“We’re following the evidence, Mrs Kendricks,” Ramirez said. “If this is a setup, we’ll find out. But until then, we have to treat him as a suspect.”

Xander looked at me then, there wasn’t fear in his expression, just frustration. And something else. Sadness, maybe.

“I didn’t do this,” he said, loud enough for the whole room to hear. “Kaia, you know that.”

Of course he didn't do it.

Xander, my father's best friend, the man I had a crush on since I was little, will never do something like that.

“I believe you,” I said quietly.

They took him out the front door and Just like that, he was gone.

I stayed behind, surrounded by people and equipment, but I felt completely alone. None of this added up. Xander had been protecting me from the beginning.

He was the only one who took the threats seriously. Now he was being accused of planning them?

Every since that call yesterday, I was convinced that we were being manipulated, but the question was who? And why?

  • Double the sin   Make me forget Everything

didn’t sleep the night he was gone, every minute that passed without word from the station made me more nervous. I’d been pacing the hallway for hours and checking my phone like a lunatic. Few minutes into dawn, a black car pulled into the driveway and Xander stepped out. He walked in without a word, past the guards and past me, straight to the kitchen where he grabbed a bottle of water and downed half of it in one breath. “You okay?” I asked. He didn’t answer right away. Then: “They didn't have enough evidence, it seems like the culprit tried to pin it on me.” “But how—” I asked. “Dummy accounts, spoofed numbers,” he said. I stepped closer and asked. “But they let you go.” “They had to, I would have sued them if they hadn't, I can't leave my wife during our honeymoon after all.” He said, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. He looked at me, this time, with desire, and gods, that turned me on. He dropped his keys on the counter, his gaze never leaving mine. “Mi

  • Double the sin   Hiding In the Mountains

KAIA'S POV Xander didn’t wait for an argument, he stormed out, barking orders on the phone. His entire demeanor shifting from calm and collected to sharp and dangerous. Within minutes, he had two men in black suits outside the apartment, and a sleek, black SUV waiting downstairs. “Pack a bag,” he said firmly. “We’re leaving.” “Where are we going?” “Somewhere safer, One of my private estates.” He didn’t elaborate, and honestly, I didn’t feel like pushing. That call rattled me, it felt like they were watching. I packed what I could quickly, mostly essentials: a few clothes, toiletries, and my phone charger. Xander took one look at the tiny duffel and added, “We’ll buy what you need when we get there.” Once we were in the SUV, I noticed a second vehicle trailing behind us, it seemed like more guards. I didn’t realize how tense I was until we exited the city and hit the highway. Still, my hands wouldn’t stop fidgeting in my lap. “You okay?” Xander asked, glancing over. “I… I d

  • Double the sin   Checkmate

KAIA'S POVI stared at the phone, my heart hammering in my chest. The call had come from an unknown number, and the voice on the other end was one I didn’t recognize. But the words were burned into my mind: "You think marrying him makes you invisible? You’re still a pawn, Kaia. And pawns are the first to be sacrificed."It wasn’t a threat, It was a promise.I stood frozen in the middle of Xander’s guest room, the one I had moved into only three days ago. Everything had felt like it was falling into place, Jax was gone, the media had moved on.But now this?I replayed the call in my head for the fifth time before I finally grabbed my robe and stepped out into the hallway. I needed to tell Xander, this wasn’t just some jealous ex or random prank. This was serious, I knocked on his bedroom door. The house was dark except for the light spilling from the study, so I headed there. He looked up when I entered, with a glass of something expensive in his hand."Something wrong?" he asked

  • Double the sin   Unknown Caller

KAIA'S POVThe minute I walked out of Xander's office, my heart wouldn’t stop racing. A contract marriage? It sounded insane. It was insane. But it also made sense. He was right, Jax wouldn’t dare come near me if I were legally married to someone like Xander Kendricks. And the media would finally stop spreading rumors about his love life or his ability to reproduce, It solved problems on both sides.Still, I couldn’t ignore how crazy it was. We weren’t in love. Hell, we barely spoke after that night and now we were supposed to fake a whole marriage?I spent the next day thinking about it, I even drafted a pros and cons list.Pro: Jax would leave me alone.Pro: I'd gain some level of security. Pro: It would boost Xander’s public image. Pro: Financial stability, he’d offered compensation.Con: It was with Xander. Con: We’d have to pretend in public. Con: What if I was pregnant? The thought kept nagging me, but I shoved it aside. I hadn’t taken a test yet. It might be nothing. The

  • Double the sin   Marry Me?

I woke up the next morning, still feeling sore from the night before. My head throbbed, I could barely remember a thing. Where am i?I tried to stand up, but a strong hand gripped me by the waist....I turned, it was XanderWhat was I doing in naked bed with my late Father's bestfriend, slowly, the images of last night started coming back. The words "I want you to fuck me", “yes daddy” “go harder daddy.” Replayed in my mind. Shit shit, what have I done? I slowly and carefully removed his hands from my waist. I looked around for my clothes, I saw it, but when I picked it up, it was torn. How did that happen? Then I remember him tearing it and spanking my ass. You've fucked up Kai. I picked up his shirt, it was oversized, but there was nothing I could do. I wore it, it was long enough, so I walked out of the hotel with my shoes in my hands. Thank God, it wasn't crowded everywhere yet, so I boarded a vehicle and went home. At home, I didn't meet Jax, that I was thankful for. I
