Chapter 4 He Strode Towards Her

Her mom lived on the fourth floor of the dorm which belonged to the electricity factory.

There were in total five floors. It was an old house without elevators. When Gu Baisheng married Song Shuang, Song Shuang gave her family a huge amount of betrothal gifts.

From an investing perspective, Gu Baisheng advised Hu Hui to buy a new house in Longpanshan estate in the city.

But Hu Hui said when she was young, she had Gu Baisheng with her husband in this house. She was emotionally attached to it, so she didn't want to move.

That was why she was fifty-year-old now and still needed to climb up those stairs.

Gu Baisheng usually ran around the hospital, performing surgeries late at night, sometimes even with an empty stomach, so she wasn't very strong.

But maybe because Bai Shengsheng's body was younger, she climbed four floors at once this time and didn't feel out of breath.

When she got on the fourth floor, she saw auntie Wang who lived across the corridor slapping the door anxiously and shouting, "Shengsheng's mom? Shengsheng's mom, open the door!"

There was also a familiar auntie from the neighborhood committee trying different keys to open the door.

Gu Baisheng knew something went wrong. She dashed over and asked, "Auntie Wang, what happened?"

Auntie Wang was in a panic. She didn't realize why an unfamiliar girl would know her name. She just rushed to speak, "Shengsheng's mom locked herself in the room. I smelt gas leaking through the door. What a rush! Yet the door still won't open!"

Gu Baisheng heard that and panicked. She didn't have time to say more with auntie Wang. She rushed up and knocked on a door on the fifth floor.

People living above also heard the noise below and they were going to come down and see it.

She knocked only once and Uncle Li opened the door.

"Uncle Li, I need to use your window."

Uncle Li didn't even realize what happened. Gu Baisheng rushed in like a storm and went straight to the kitchen. She opened the window and took down the screen. She went out of the window, walked on the cement board for placing the air conditioner, and climbed to the window of her kitchen.

No one was in the kitchen, but the window was shut tightly. However, it was quite old, so there was a huge gap. A clear smell of gas leaked through.

"Please be alright, mom!"

Gu Baisheng's heart was racing. She looked around, kicked the window open, and then climbed through.

After she went in, she immediately turned off the gas. She opened all the windows and went out of the kitchen to open the windows in the living room and balcony.

She searched all over the place for her mother.

When she went to her room, she found her mother sitting on the floor and leaning on her bed while holding Gu Baisheng’s picture. Her mother already passed out.

Gu Baisheng didn't have time to open the door for auntie Wang. She hurried and opened the window in the second bedroom.

She let the air come into the room and gently pressed her mother's philtrum. She called her mother, "Mom? Mom, wake up."

Hu Hui didn't respond at first. After a few minutes of calling, she slowly woke up. Looking at this unfamiliar girl in front of her with her half-opened eyes, she asked, "Where's my daughter? Where's my Shengsheng?"

"I am your daughter, mom. I'm Shengsheng. I didn't die. I changed a look and I'm alive again. Mom!"

Gu Baisheng tried to make her mother understand this.

Hu Hui looked at her and her eyes were red again, "My Shengsheng. I'm coming to you..."

Then, she started to find something with her hands.

Gu Baisheng then saw that Hu Hui was holding a bottle of sleeping pills.

Gu Baisheng's heart ached. Her mother was really determined to go with her.

She took the pills and turned on the gas! She was ruthless to herself!

Gu Baisheng immediately took over the bottle and tried to support her up.

But her mother was heavy. She couldn't hold her up. She could barely support her.

At this moment, the door of the apartment was bashed open.

A tall man wearing a black jacket strode in.

Gu Baisheng looked back.

She saw Song Shuang walking over with a weary face and cold eyes. He was tall like a male model, much taller than her.

With him coming over, she felt like she was underneath the shadow of a mountain.

"Song..."

"Move!"

Song Shuang looked indifferent. He didn't even look at her. He took over Hu Hui and bent over to hold her up. He then strode forward.

Gu Baisheng was shocked by his indifference.

He never had such an unapproachable attitude in front of her.
