Elena's POV

The car stops right at the doorway of the mansion that looked like it belonged in one of those glossy magazines my mother used to flip through when life was still good. White stone walls, columns wrapped in ivy, and a circular driveway with golf-course quality grass in the middle.

I didn't get to gawk long.

How could I when Caleb was already at the door, opening it for us? Noah, or Mr. N, whatever name floats his boat, took me by the arm and led me inside without a word.

I struggled, but of course, it was all in vain.

The interior of the said mansion was even worse. It was... beautiful. High ceilings, chandeliers that probably cost more than my mother's medical bills for a year, and walls adorned with art I wouldn't dare put a price on. Marble floors, winding staircases, hallways that stretched farther than I could see.

Damn, I literally feel like I'm in a Hollywood movie. Being in a mansion this grand almost feels surreal.

"You live here?" I asked before I could stop mys

[Elena's POV]The Bentley surged forward. The Harleys matched our speed effortlessly. And one of them, the one closest to Noah's window, reached into his jacket.I saw the glint of metal. It was from a gun."Mr. Marlowe," I said, my voice tight. "They're armed.""I know," he said calmly like this was all going exactly according to plan.SJ was sweating now, his eyes darting between the road and the motorcycles flanking us."What do they want?" he yelled. "What the fuck do they want?"Noah leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping to a near-whisper that somehow carried more weight than a shout."They want," he said, "to see if you're smart enough to stop. Or stupid enough to die."The motorcycles closed in tighter. One pulled ahead, forcing SJ to swerve.Another came up on the passenger side, so close I could see the Velgrave skull painted on the rider's helmet."SJ!" the tall robber in the passenger's seat shouted. "We can't outrun them! We gotta stop!""NO!" SJ screamed. "We're alm

[Elena's POV]As I was being shoved toward the Bentley, something caught my eye.It was a tiny red dot. Was that laser sight? It appeared on the chest of the tall robber pushing Noah forward, then drifted slowly upward toward his head.My blood went cold.Noah had arranged a sniper without my noticing.Of course he had. Because apparently kidnapping a Billionaire with a double life came with complimentary execution services. The red dot steadied on the tall robber's temple. Any second now, his brains would be splattered across Noah's expensive car, and I'd be standing right next to the mess.I thought of what he'd said inside the café."I just need enough for my sister's hospital bills."His sister. Probably it was some kid or poor woman somewhere waiting for her brother to come home with money for treatment. And in about two seconds, she'd be waiting forever. My body moved before my brain caught up.I stepped directly behind the tall robber, blocking the sniper's line of sight with m

[Elena's POV]The lead robber hesitated, then jerked his head at his companions."Search him," he ordered. "Make sure he's not carrying."The thinner of the two accomplices moved forward, but his steps were reluctant, uncertain."Boss," he said, his voice muffled by the mask. "I don't know about this. Noah Marlowe's famous. We knock over a couple stores, we get caught, maybe we do a few months. But kidnapping a billionaire? That's federal. That's life in prison. Or worse."He shifted his weight nervously."I just wanted to get my dad some decent meds, man. This is way too hot."The taller accomplice nodded quickly. "Yeah. I'm with him. I just need enough for my sister's hospital bills. This is... this is too much."Something twisted in my chest.Their family and medical bills.I thought of my mom lying in that hospital bed, tubes and monitors beeping, waiting for a surgery I couldn't afford on my own. She couldn't be saved until I sold my freedom and dignity to Noah.God, I actually f

[Elena's POV]Noah didn't move. His gaze shifted to the man holding me, and something in his expression made my blood run cold.It was the look of a predator deciding exactly how to kill its prey. The other two robbers had already emptied the cash register, stuffing bills into their duffel bag. They moved to the terrified customers, snatching phones and jewelry with rough efficiency. One of them reached Nicole."Bitch! Your f*cking phone, jewelry! Now!" he barked.Nicole's hands trembled as she continued to pull off her earrings, her bracelet, fumbling with the clasp of her necklace."Please," she said, her voice shaking as she held everything out. "Please don't hurt my friend. Take whatever you want, just don't hurt her."Tears streaked down her face as she handed over her phone and wallet. The robber snatched them and moved on.Outside, police sirens wailed, getting closer. The sound seemed to surround the café.I saw Noah's eyes flick toward the door at the sound, and something cha

[Elena's POV]"Lena," he said, his voice rough. "It's me. Still remember San Gabriel Valley? The last vacation spot our family visited together!"Tears blurred my vision again.San Gabriel Valley. The memory hit me like a wave, splashing in the lake, Adrian teaching me to float on my back, the sun warm on my face. Mom laughing on the shore. Dad sober for once, smiling. My brother had taught me how to swim that day. After two months, our family went bankrupt. Since then Adrian had hidden me in his closet when our father came home drunk and angry, whispering that it would be okay, that he'd always protect me.The boy who'd disappeared when I was seven years old. When he called my name now, the concern and tenderness in his olive-green eyes remained unchanged from that little boy who'd promised to keep me safe. And then I was moving, closing the distance between us, throwing my arms around him and holding on like I used to when I was small and scared and the world felt too big.He caught

[Elena's POV]His smile widened slightly, something warm and sad flickering in his eyes."Not yet," he said. "But I hope you will.""Bonjour, LENA!"Nicole's voice burst from behind the tall, handsome stranger, and suddenly she was there, popping her head around his shoulder with that mischievous grin I'd missed so desperately."Surprise!"The espressos nearly slipped from my hands."Nico!"I barely managed to set the cups down on the nearest table before she launched herself at me, pulling me into a crushing hug that knocked the breath out of my lungs. And I broke.Right there in the middle of the café, surrounded by strangers and the stranger who'd given me five hundred dollars and Noah watching from his corner table, I burst into tears.Nicole smelled like expensive French perfume and the vanilla body spray she'd worn since we were thirteen. Her arms around me felt like safety, like home, like everything I'd lost and thought I'd never get back."Oh my God, I missed you so much," sh
