Chapter 6 A piece of chess!

Chapter 6

“How are we supposed to spend the night together, dear husband?” She mumbled bending over to her unconscious husband to get a clear view of his face.

“Pale but handsome!” Avery thought, staring at the man's relaxed features. She could see his dark hair tousled around the pillow.

Avery was lost staring at the man that she didn't realize when she knelt on her knees and rested her head over the man's chest.

“He's breathing steadily but strangely he looks paler!” Avery thought as she found it a little bit strange.

Given the state of the so-called husband on the bed with a paler face, he wasn't supposed to have a steady breath rather but a faint breath given his face.

“Are you done staring?” A cold muscular voice uttered right from the king-sized bed.

Avery instantly fell on her butt wondering where she had heard that strange voice when it was only she and her so-called husband who was inside the room.

“Oh my goodness!” Avery yelled out loudly with a big surprised expression on her face, she could see the man on the bed slowly sit up with their eyes locked against each other.

“What happened? Aren't you in a coma? How could you be awake?” Avery asked, watching the man get off his feet and walk to the window side without any signs of someone who just woke up from a coma.

Despite the room's good conditioner, sweat was dripping off her body as she couldn't think of what was happening at that moment, she could only stare at him while he was backing her.

“Why ain't you saying anything?” She stuttered while looking at her so-called husband's manly back.

“Since you ain't answering me, I should call your mother and inform her you're awake!” She said, searching her nightie for her phone but it was nowhere to be found.

She could clearly remember holding the phone before entering the room which seemed a little strange that it was nowhere to be found.

“Are you looking for this?” The man's voice was like ice cutting through the silence of the room. His words were measured and deliberate, each syllable was sharp and precise.

Avery could sense his tone was flat and emotionless lacking warmth and compassion but Avery wasn't after his warmth and compassion either but just listened to what he had to say seeing her phone in his left hand with an unbothered expression on his face.

“Seemed you're not!” And with that, he smashed the phone instantly on the tile with an emotionless gaze.

“Did you just smash my cell phone on the floor? You bastard!” Avery's gaze was burning in fury as she walked towards the cell phone on the floor. Even though it wasn't hers, she knew she would need to know more about the owner of the body.

“Have you forgotten what I told you?”

“I told you to reject this marriage, didn't I, Eileen?” He yelled and yanked her to the nearest wall.

She could instantly feel the grip. It was different from the grip of someone in a coma, she couldn't help but be flustered.

“Wait…Are you pretending to be in a coma? She stuttered fearfully, unable to look into his face.

Almost immediately, Eileen's memories flashed into her head about the man in front of her, she could remember meeting with his secretary about the marriage.

“Oh yes, I decided not to reject it!” She said,

“Now, Let go of me, Smith Lucien!” Avery tried so hard to release Lucien's grip from her neck but it was like a mission impossible until she screamed his name.

Lucien left her and walked to the wine cellar where he picked a bottle of white wine with a glass cup and poured himself some before gulping down the whole content.

“Are you here to spend the night with me, dear wife?” He asked, backing her.

Avery was so shocked when she heard his shameful words that she instantly held herself together moving further away from him.

But Avery was able to sense something from his tone of words, she realized he spoke as if he was addressing a child or fool, probably stepping on her patience.

“Stop beating around the brush, Lucien, You and I know that you don't want to have anything to do with me, why do you suddenly want to spend the night with me?!”

“Oops! You've suddenly grown smarter!” He said and brought out the tobacco stick, and put it in his mouth before burning the end.

“I won't beat around the bush with you, okay? Now let's get started!”

Avery couldn't help but be confused by the whole scenario, what a total mess she had found herself.

She had thought she would be able to successfully carry out her revenge plans and pull a string to be able to claim the man's properties when he died but never thought Lucien was pretending for his whole family.

“Find Butler Lee, and move me to my penthouse, Eileen!”

“Inform my mother that if she wants you to have my child the both of us should stay in the penthouse for a while!”

“And why would I do that? Why do you think I would risk my life to help you?” Avery asked with her hands folded upon her chest staring at Lucien's broad shoulders.

“You have no choice, Eileen,” He sneered, his tone dripping with arrogance and confidence.

“ You've always wanted to marry me and have a child of mine, isn't it?” Lucien's words were like a dagger slicing through the air with precision.

His eyes were cold and calculating as if he was looking at a chess board and not a woman. He stood before her, tall and imposing, his muscles rippling beneath his breathable fabric. Eileen felt small and insignificant in his presence, like a pawn on a chess board, being manipulated by a master player.

Avery smiled coldly, she felt disgusted upon hearing the man's words.

“She must have lost her dignity as a lady to be treated like a piece of chess!” Avery thought, and couldn't help but think of a means to wipe Lucien's expression off his face.

She was about to say something when Lucien released the tobacco smoke straight into her face, leading to an uncontrollable cough.
