Chapter 5 Husband in coma

Chapter 5

Avery pursed her lips and remained silent, her eyes were filled with complex emotions as she stared at herself through the mirror as her personal maid was fixing her face for her night consumption.

Just a night and her whole life turned around, as Avery stared into the mirror she couldn't help but think about what she had seen inside her matrimonial bedroom that very night.

Flashbacks

“Jake, are you sure you'll forever love me?” Avery heard immediately. She pushed the door to the bedroom open.

The handbags she was holding fell out of her hands, as she wasn't expecting the lady whose lips were locked against Jake's mouth, she wasn't expecting to be on that bed.

“Isabella, W…what are you doing?” Avery stuttered as she suddenly lost her breath and she had to use the door handle to keep herself from falling.

She looked at Jake, who seemed to want to get out of bed, but Isabella's words stopped him from taking his steps towards Avery.

“ The moment you walk towards my sister, I'll take it you're choosing her over me, so the choice is yours!” Isabella ordered instantly, dropping the bombshell, which seemed to surprise Avery.

Avery parted her lips slightly when she heard her adoptive sister's words. She wasn't even feeling ashamed or remorseful about her acts, rather she laid on the bed with confidence filled her eyes.

Avery looked straight into Jake's eyes expecting him to plead for mercy, expecting him to tell her everything was a mistake, expecting him to walk towards her, but Jake was still standing while ruffling his hair in contemplation.

Avery shook her head, unable to believe her husband was thinking about whom to choose in that situation.

Avery had made up her mind that the moment Jake walked towards her and pleaded for mercy she would forgive him. After all, humans are bound to make mistakes, but seeing him lost in thought, she couldn't help but feel bitter.

“You have just two more seconds to make your decision, Jake.”

“You and I know clearly that I'm a better option for you than my sister.”

“ The moment you miss this chance you might lose me forever!” Isabella said confidently, and one would be able to feel how confident she was.

One wouldn't blame Isabella for being overconfident, even though her affair with her sister's husband was just a few months ago, she knew she had a higher chance than her sister. After all, she was one of the A-list actresses.

“Who would want to think twice about choosing between a lady that has work or a non-working lady?”

With that, Isabella knew she had a better chance than her sister.

Avery could only hope Jake would think twice before making the final decision and choosing her despite everything that was going on at that moment.

Almost immediately, just like a flash, Jake dramatically turned around and slowly went back to bed to meet Isabella, who didn't move an inch from the bed.

“You did great babe,” Isabella said and gently held Jake's face and planted a kiss on his face.

However, at that moment, Avery's dreams clashed within those seconds, and she couldn't even utter a word. She could only scoff at herself.

“I'm really worthless to want to accept a cheater!” She said to herself as she stood up instantly and picked up her bag ready to leave.

“Jake, we can't let her leave or else your family might lose their trust in you.” Isabella suddenly said, which instantly made Jake's brain reboot, and instantly he stood up from the bed.

Jake knew his brother, who had been in a coma for one year and seven months, would be dying anytime soon, and he would definitely be made the heir, so no matter what, he had gotten married because he wanted to be the heir, which is the main reason why his affair must not be known.

“Avery, you can't leave!” Jake yelled, which made Avery turn angry.

“So you're scared to let the world know about your affair, huh? Then you shouldn't have cheated then, mustered up courage and faced the consequences!” Avery said and turned back to leave.

“Get her, Isabella, she can't leave this house alive!” Jake yelled loudly with his veins clearly shown on his face.

“My lady, don't get your face stained with tears!”

“Why are you suddenly crying? It's quite understandable you're being emotional at this moment, but now isn't the time.” Emily said, but heard no response from her lady, who was just staring plainly at the mirror.

“We'll be coming inside to pick up your master!” Emily could hear the voice outside, and she knew she had to do something before they came inside and met her lady in that way.

“My lady… My Lady… My Lady!” Emily called and continuously tapped Avery till she was finally jolted out of her thoughts.

“My lady, they're here to follow you to your husband's room,” Evilly announced and gently wiped Avery's tears and helped her up.

She dragged her feet slowly inside the room due to how scared she had to hold her breath to calm her nerves.

She could only glance around the room and sniff around as she seemed to be perceiving antiseptic in the air. At the same time, Avery couldn't help but to look for her husband in the room, but she couldn't find anyone.

“Could it be because he hates me that he couldn't bear to see my face?” Avery thought with a cunning smile.

“Well that's great, he has made it easier for me,” She mumbled to herself while giggling as she instantly made to run towards the king's sized bed when her gaze landed on a man who was lying on the bed with a tube and drop connected to his nose.

Avery smiled awkwardly as she tried to make herself believe the man in a coma wasn't her husband, but her mind was telling her otherwise.

Avery took some steps towards the man. She could see his eyes were completely closed, and his body was motionless. Even his breathing was shallow and slow.

Seeing how white and pale his body was, Avery knew the guy wouldn't last a few months.

“How are you supposed to spend your wedding night in this state, dear husband?”
