"And what did you expect, Dominique?" he gets up, adjusting his jacket. At that moment, Evie was returning from the bathroom, but upon hearing Alec’s voice, she stopped and heard what he was saying. "The last thing I heard from you was how much you hated me. You preferred anyone, even that horny gardener, to me. You didn’t watch any of my football games, because spending hours and hours in a beauty salon was a better use of your time." Dominique faces the ground, exasperated by hearing so much truth. "You hated a child, when the only thing he wanted... that I wanted was the happiness of my parents together.”

It was the first time Evangeline felt she had anything in common with Alec. She could feel the anger and sadness in his voice as she poured all those truths on her mother. When Alec turned, eager to flee, he ran into Evangeline.
