[Elena]

The moment the word left Asher’s lips, I froze mid-step.

My lips pressed into a thin line as I turned back to face him.

I should feel something for him—pity, maybe—for what he just said. But the first face that flashed in my mind wasn’t his. It was that little boy from the mall. The one who had run straight into my arms and smiled up at me like he’d known me forever.

My heart squeezed painfully in my chest.

Why did it hurt this badly?

It shouldn’t be any of my business whether Asher and Vienna’s son is sick. It shouldn’t bother me. But the thought of that sweet boy lying in a hospital bed made my stomach twist in a way I couldn’t explain.

I swallowed hard, forcing myself to straighten up. "Mr. Langston," I said evenly, though my voice threatened to shake.

Asher’s brow creased, and maybe it was just me, but I could tell from the tension in his jaw that he regretted saying anything at all.

"I’m sure you know why we’re here," I continued, my tone clipped. "You called me for a mee

[Elena]"Why are you all acting as if something happened?" my mother asked the moment we settled around the dining table. Her voice was calm, almost casual, but it landed like a stone in my chest. My lips pressed together on instinct. I kept my eyes on the table for a second too long before lifting them, forcing myself to look around. Aurora sat beside my mother, posture straight, hands folded neatly in her lap. She hadn’t been in the office, hadn’t heard the words, but she’d seen Asher barge in earlier. She’d seen the way security followed him out. She knew something wasn’t right, even if she didn’t know what.Raphael answered before any of us could say a word. "You’re just assuming," he said, dismissive, smooth. "Nothing is wrong."But my mother wasn’t fooled. Her gaze slid from Raphael to Matteo, then finally settled on me. I felt it there, heavy and knowing, like she was peeling layers off my skin without touching me. My stomach immediately tightened.Instead of pressing me, she

  • Ex-husband, You Broke The Wrong Woman    Chapter 184 - He's lying

[Elena]It felt like I was drowning. Not the dramatic kind where you flail and scream for help—but the quiet kind. The kind where water fills your lungs slowly, where your chest tightens inch by inch until breathing itself becomes painful. Like an invisible hand had wrapped itself around my throat and decided it wasn’t letting go anytime soon.I took a slow breath, then another, but it didn't help.My heart skipped a beat, beating erratically, as if it had lost its rhythm.Four hours. It had been four hours since Asher Langston had walked into my office, shattered my peace, and dropped words so heavy they were still crushing me beneath their weight.Four hours since he’d looked me in the eyes and said. "Darian is your son. Not Vienna’s. She used your eggs."The words replayed in my head like gunshots.Sharp. Loud. Impossible to ignore. My chest ached. No—ached wasn’t strong enough. It burned. It felt like something had been ripped open inside me and left exposed to the air. Every brea

[Asher]There was nothing left of my pride to protect.Nothing.If throwing every ounce of shame I had left onto the ground would save my son, then so be it. Pride could burn. Reputation could rot. I didn’t care anymore. Not when Darian was lying somewhere between life and death, gasping for breath he didn’t have the strength to take.I had already lost too much.I had practically sneaked into this office like a criminal—like a man with something to hide—just to avoid the security guards stationed outside. Men who would have dragged me out without blinking if they knew why I was here.I stood outside for close to an hour, my back pressed against the wall, heart hammering so loud I was sure someone would hear it. I waited. Watched. Calculated. Every second felt like another nail in my son’s coffin. The moment they were distracted—even for a split second—I moved. That was the only chance I had.Yes, I saw Raphael and Matteo when they walked in. I saw them clearly. Felt the warning slam

  • Ex-husband, You Broke The Wrong Woman    Chapter 182 - Get out!

[Elena]How the hell did he even get in here? That was the exact thought tearing through my head, loud and frantic, because I knew—I was absolutely sure—my security guards were stationed outside. My lips pressed tight as my eyes locked on Asher. He looked nothing like the man I remembered. His eyes were red-rimmed, almost feral, like he hadn’t slept in days. Sweat slicked down his temples, dampening the collar of his shirt. His chest rose and fell too fast, too shallow, like he’d run straight here without stopping.I expected him to retreat the moment he noticed my brothers.Anyone in their right mind would have. But he didn’t.He stood there, frozen, his eyes darting from Raphael to Matteo and then back to me."And what the hell are you doing here?" Matteo snapped, already stepping forward, his body angling protectively in front of me.My lips pressed tighter as my gaze slid to Raphael. He hadn’t moved. He stood there completely still, staring at Asher with his lips curling downward

[Elena]"How is he now?" My lips pressed tight as I asked Cassie on the other end.She sighed, and I didn't need to be told that it wasn't going as easily."He's still shocked Elena. He locked himself in one of the rooms and up until now, he refused to come out." She paused, and I felt my heart clench for her. "He only opened up when I told him I brought food and right after that, he shut the door."I could hear the exhaustion in her voice, and honestly, I feel for her, as well as for Noel."Listen, you just have to take it one step at a time with him," I mumbled. "He's still trying to put everything in place. Just don't push it, allow him to take his time and just fill in when you need to." I said and Cassie sniffed on the other end.I bit down on my lips, rubbing the heel of my palm on my forehead.I could feel it throbbing."I will try my best. I miss my man, Elena. I want this all over. And you know the wedding date has to be rescheduled. All of this is just...""Everything will b

  • Ex-husband, You Broke The Wrong Woman    Chapter 180 - Who?

[Asher]"I asked you a question." My voice came out low, tight, nothing like the storm raging in my chest. "And do you really not know the reason I’m standing right here?" I growled staring at the stupid doctor in front of me.My chest squeezed painfully, like invisible hands were crushing my lungs from the inside. His eyes flicked to Tristan...quick, panicked, before snapping back to me. That alone told me everything. My jaw clenched harder. He hadn’t said a word yet, but guilt was written all over his face. It sat in the way his shoulders tensed, in the way his fingers twitched by his sides, in the thin sheen of sweat already forming along his hairline. He tried to smooth it over, tried to wear a professional smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. Not even close."Mr. Langston," he said with a short, uneasy laugh as he took a step toward me.That was when my eyes dropped to the name tag clipped to his lab coat.Dr. Dominic."I don’t understand what you’re saying," he continued, voice
