[Elena]

The moment the word left Asher’s lips, I froze mid-step.

My lips pressed into a thin line as I turned back to face him.

I should feel something for him—pity, maybe—for what he just said. But the first face that flashed in my mind wasn’t his. It was that little boy from the mall. The one who had run straight into my arms and smiled up at me like he’d known me forever.

My heart squeezed painfully in my chest.

Why did it hurt this badly?

It shouldn’t be any of my business whether Asher and Vienna’s son is sick. It shouldn’t bother me. But the thought of that sweet boy lying in a hospital bed made my stomach twist in a way I couldn’t explain.

I swallowed hard, forcing myself to straighten up. "Mr. Langston," I said evenly, though my voice threatened to shake.

Asher’s brow creased, and maybe it was just me, but I could tell from the tension in his jaw that he regretted saying anything at all.

"I’m sure you know why we’re here," I continued, my tone clipped. "You called me for a mee

[Elena]"Are you sure you're okay now?" Mom asked just as I came down the stairs. Her brows were creased, her eyes darting over every inch of me like she was expecting to find something broken.I hadn’t left the house since the incident, but I couldn’t keep living like this—locked in, fragile, afraid. I was still shaken, yes, but I had a life. If I didn’t try to suppress the fear and move forward, it would swallow me whole."I'm fine, Mom. I have to go to work," I murmured, and she looked at me like I’d said something absurd before finally nodding.Yesterday was her and my late father's anniversary—the one we’d been planning for weeks—but she had to scale it down, worried sick about me. Even when I insisted I was fine and begged her to celebrate as planned, she refused. The whole thing was smaller, quieter because of me."The guard and the driver will take you anywhere you want to go for now, alright?""Sure, Mom, that’s fine. I need to leave now. A lot is waiting for me—Aurora’s alre

[Elena]It’s been two days since the incident, and even when I tried to convince my family that I was fine, I knew I wasn’t.I could pretend to act strong, but that was all it was — a performance. Inside, I was anything but okay."Has Raphael found who was behind it?" Natalia’s voice pulled me back to the present.I shook my head, pressing my lips together. "He hasn’t," I mumbled. Her face filled my phone screen, and I could already see the frustration in her eyes. She was still upset that I’d told her not to come to Boston. The moment she heard what happened, she wanted to fly down immediately."Why do I have this feeling that Asher or Vienna is behind this?" She asked.I sighed. Talking about Vienna made my blood heat — that witch could truly stoop low — but Asher? He was the only reason I was alive. What if that man had found me before Asher did? What would have happened?Even though I wouldn’t admit it to his face, I was grateful he’d found me in time."Elena? Can you hear me?" Na

[Asher]"Her brother is there now so I'm very sure she'll be fine," I mumbled under my breath, tightening my grip on the steering wheel.Hell, I wanted to stay longer —I wanted to be right there with her —and even when I knew she was safe with her brother, I just wanted to know exactly what happened.Who tied her up? And why the hell would someone tie her up? That was the things I so much need answers to and fuck all I want to do is make sure whoever did that to her would not live to see the next sunlight. My jaw clenched as I tried pushing the thoughts aside. I'm sure Raphael would be able to resolve whatever issue that is.I swallowed hard as I swerved my engine into the hospital lot.I took a slow, deep breath, tightening my hand on the steering wheel before turning off the engine.I stepped out and made my way inside the hospital. I still needed to make sure Vienna isn't mad anymore.Even when I was trying to save Elena, it was absolutely wrong of me to leave my wife in the middle

[Elena]"Your brother will be here any moment. I’ll be leaving now," Asher said, handing me a glass of warm water.I took a small gulp and set the glass down, my fingers trembling slightly against the bedside table. My gaze lingered on him longer than it should have. I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this Asher—the same man who once turned his back on me—was the one who brought me to a hospital and stayed until I woke up.I didn’t even know how to feel about it. Gratitude? Confusion? Anger? It was all muddled together in my chest, pressing like a knot. So, I just nodded. A small, hesitant nod. Before I could stop myself, the words slipped out of my mouth."Thank you," I muttered under my breath. His brow creased—barely—but I caught it before he smoothed it over.He gave a short nod, and for a moment I thought that was it—that he’d walk out the door without another word. But then his footsteps shifted, slow and deliberate, and he started walking toward me instead.

[Raphael]I am Raphael Thorne, for heaven’s sake. One of the richest men in Boston. I could find anyone, get any information within seconds. But why was I right here for more than ten miserable hours, not having a clue where my only sister was?My mother was losing it. She knew something was wrong. She kept calling and I kept ignoring because I had nothing to tell her.I swallowed hard, jaw clenched, pacing the length of my living room with my phone pressed to my ear.I’d sent every one of my men out, but none had come back with anything solid. Every update was the same useless line. No sighting. No lead. Nothing. The footage I’d requested from the area had been wiped clean. Not missing. Not corrupted. Wiped. That made everything worse. Whoever did this was smart and deliberate. And then there was her phone. Left in her car.Someone had taken my sister. There was no other explanation. But who?Who the hell would dare?I’d promised her I wouldn’t dig into her past. She wanted to move o

[Elena] Everything hurt. That was the first thing I felt. A dull, burning ache spread through every inch of me, like I’d been dragged across the road and left under the sun for hours. My eyelids felt heavy, my throat dry, and when I tried to move, pain shot up my arm and I froze. What the hell happened? A faint beeping sound echoed somewhere close—slow, rhythmic. The air smelled sharp. My fingers brushed against something thin and cold. My head felt heavy, pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. Where… where am I? I blinked, forcing my eyes open, and for a second the light burned. Everything looked blurry, washed out, like I was underwater. White walls. A monitor. I swallowed hard as I stared from one corner to the other. This...this is a hospital? My stomach dropped as I tried to make sense of what was going on or what the hell I was doing here. And then—movement. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone sitting beside the bed, slumped in a chair, his elbows resting
