Aaron was already sitting upright on the bed, fully dressed in a fresh black shirt and slacks, the IV line had been removed from him and the dressing around his ribs freshly changed. His face was still pale, but his eyes were clear, maybe even a little too clear for someone who had been stabbed just two nights before.

Margaret stood near the door, arms folded. “You shouldn’t be walking around like this. You're not some damn superhero.”

“I’m not staying here,” Aaron said firmly, the edge of command back in his voice.

She sighed. “Fine. But don’t expect me to carry you when you collapse. I’ll go sign the discharge papers.”

As she walked out, the door clicked shut behind her, leaving Aaron and Raina alone.

The silence was awkward for a beat. Raina sat in the chair near his bed, her hands knotted in her lap. She hadn’t the room all night, even after the doctors reassured her he’d be fine, her and Margeret both.

Jessica was sprawled across her velvet chaise, her phone in hand as she sat in front of the TV, watching the chaos she’d unleashed ripple through the media. The video had already been picked up by half a dozen news outlets, the headlines growing more vicious with every refresh. She saw the videos of Raina leaving Aaron's mansion, the tears in her eyes, that humiliation clinging to her.Things were panning out even faster than Jessica had predicted. She wasn’t smiling, atleast not exactly. More like savoring in this.Savoring in the satisfaction of a plan coming full circle.A sudden, rapid knock at the door jolted her from her thoughts. Before she could even call out, the door swung open and Jamie burst in, practically vibrating with excitement.“Oh my God, Jess!” Jamie’s voice was high with adrenaline. She slammed the door behind her, rushing across the room. “Have you seen it? Everyone’s talking about it. She’s done, she's finished for sure and better, she's out of the picture compl

Margaret paced the length of the living room, her heels clicking against the polished marble with sharp, impatient beats. Her face was still taut with fury, lips pressed into a thin, unforgiving line. But her eyes weren’t on the floor—no, they kept darting toward Aaron, gauging, reading, searching for affirmation.“You saw the news, Aaron,” she snapped, her voice clipped but carrying the weight of unshaken conviction. “There’s no coming back from something like this. That… woman… has humiliated not just you, but all of us. I had no choice.”Aaron sat on the edge of the sofa, keeping his elbows on his knees and his fingers steepled beneath his chin. His jaw flexed, but he said nothing, even up till now.His gaze wasn’t even on Margaret.. it was on the empty space where Raina had been standing not ten minutes ago.He could still see her face in his mind’s eye, that look she had as she was being thrown out, her wide eyes, her confused look, she was desperate for him to say something… des

Raina stood there in the living, still clearly damp from the shower with her hair clinging to her neck. Her wide eyes darted between Margaret’s rigid posture and her wide frantic eyes filled with rage and Aaron’s unreadable expression.“What… what is going on?” she asked, her voice breaking despite her attempt to steady it.Margaret’s face was carved from stone, but her eyes burned with fury. She lifted her phone, the screen glowing like an execution order. “This is what’s going on.”Raina’s gaze dropped to the screen, and her breath caught as the headline hit her like a physical blow:Gold-Digger Raina Weston — Audio Reveals Pregnancy Scheme for Kingston FortuneBeneath it, she heard her own voice, it was grainy but unmistakable, and it played for all to hear: "The baby is my ticket to secure millions from Aaron. He’ll never see it coming."Her knees weakened. “That’s not me. I never—”Margaret’s voice sliced through her plea like glass. “Enough. I don’t want to hear another word. Le

The alley smelled of oil and rot, secluded behind an abandoned bar in the rougher part of town, where no cameras worked. This wasn't a part of town for any high class people.Jessica pulled the hood of her coat tighter around her face as her heels clicked against the cracked pavement. She spotted him leaning casually against a black SUV, smoking, as if this wasn’t a betrayal in motion.Marco Cingarette. The youngest but most volatile of the Cingarette bloodline. And for Jessica, her big time ticket to getting what she always wanted… the power. The invitation he sent her, had been cryptic. A text with no explanation, just a time and a location. She stepped up to him, eyes narrowed. “Why did you call me here, Marco?”He took a slow drag from his cigarette, exhaling smoke like he was trying to stall. “You look good, Jess.”She folded her arms. “Don’t play games. If you’re risking this meet, here of all places, it’s for something serious. So, talk.”He hesitated, tapping the ashes off the

Raina padded quietly down the long staircase, the loose silk of her robe trailing behind her.Morning light filtered in through the tall windows, golden and soft. The house was quiet, save for the subtle clinking of cutlery from the dining area. Finally, in what felt like a long time, she felt at peace. When she turned the corner, her eyes landed on Aaron, he was already seated at the dinner, a plate of untouched eggs in front of him and his fingers were wrapped around a hot mug of coffee. He was fully dressed, in black suits and a crisp tie, the sleeves rolled to his elbows. His dark hair was brushed back, jaw clean-shaven.He looked ready and sharp, and even more than attractive than usual, even for Raina. She paused as something in her chest tightened.“You're up early,” she said, walking toward him.Aaron looked up, his gaze scanning her with mild surprise, then back to his cup. “Didn’t sleep much.”Her eyes narrowed. “You’re dressed like you’re going somewhere.”He didn’t answer
