Lillian.

I had already been heading toward my chambers when a strange restlessness began to settle in my chest.

It wasn’t sudden in a loud, obvious way—it crept in quietly, tightening around my thoughts, making it impossible to stay still. My steps slowed, then faltered completely as the feeling deepened. Something was off. Something didn’t feel right.

My mind immediately drifted to Scott.

Regardless of whether Kayla was human or not, Scott had taken her into his room. Under normal circumstances, it would have meant nothing. He did what he wanted, when he wanted, without explanation. But today wasn’t normal. Not in the slightest.

In just a few hours, the red moon would rise.

And that changed everything.

For ordinary wolves, the red moon meant heat, instinct, and surrender—an overwhelming need to seek out and devour their mates, to lose control completely to desire. But for Alphas, it was something far more dangerous than simple instinct.

It didn’t just awaken heat.

It exposed obsession.

It revealed what had been buried, denied, or hidden even from themselves. And once it surfaced, there was no controlling it anymore.

My steps quickened without permission from my thoughts.

I feared Kayla might take advantage of the situation—might do something shameless, something calculated—and force her way into his space, into his bed, pretending innocence while stirring chaos. I didn’t trust her. I never had. Not fully.

And I had been the one chosen for him.

Me.

The one bound to him in every sense that mattered, even if he had never acknowledged it properly. Even if he had never touched me the way he should have. That truth alone burned quietly inside me every day.

I rushed toward his chambers immediately, my heartbeat uneven, my thoughts spiraling faster with each step. But when I arrived and pushed the door open, I froze.

Kayla wasn’t there.

A wave of relief washed over me instantly, loosening the tightness in my chest that I hadn’t even realized had formed. I exhaled slowly, trying to steady myself.

“Scott really won’t do anything forbidden,” I muttered under my breath, convincing myself more than anything else.

But then my eyes lifted.

And everything else stopped.

Scott stood there, bare-chested, and for a moment, my entire attention locked onto him without permission. I had rarely ever been close enough to see him like this. Rarely ever had the chance to take in the sight properly. And now that I had, my thoughts began to blur in ways I couldn’t explain.

My focus refused to move away.

Before I could even gather myself, he stepped closer, and in an instant, everything shifted.

His hand caught me, pulling me toward him with sudden intensity. My breath hitched as the distance vanished completely, and before I could process what was happening, he claimed my lips in a kiss that was fierce, hungry, and overwhelming.

My heart nearly stopped.

I should have resisted.

I should have questioned it.

But I didn’t.

Instead, warmth flooded through me, and an uncontrollable sense of excitement surged in its place. It felt like everything I had been waiting for had finally begun to fall into place.

“You are mine,” he growled against my lips, his voice rough, filled with something I had never heard from him before.

My heart skipped violently at the words.

Mine.

That single word echoed in my chest, settling into me like a promise I had waited far too long to hear.

“I know,” I responded breathlessly, my voice filled with excitement I couldn’t suppress, my confidence rising instantly as though everything I had feared had finally turned in my favor.

I was his obsession.

‘Finally, I had one of the triplets.’ I thought to myself. ‘and it was only a matter of time before the rest followed.’

Why was I even bothered by that human girl?

The thought lingered in my mind like an irritation I couldn’t quite shake off, even as I tried to dismiss it. She shouldn’t have mattered. Not even a little. And yet, something about her presence—her existence around Scott—had managed to unsettle me more than I cared to admit.

But that was pointless now.

Scott had already looked at me differently. I could feel it. He had noticed me in a way that meant something. And now that I was here, standing in front of him, I was certain of one thing—he would make sure I was happy. He always would. That was how it was supposed to be.

“Scott?” I called out softly, stepping closer to him with growing anticipation. My fingers curled lightly around his shirt as I tugged at it, trying to draw his attention fully back to me. “How about we complete what we started?” I asked, my voice carrying clear excitement I didn’t bother hiding.

I expected him to respond instantly, to pull me closer again.

To erase every doubt with a single action.

To devour my lips without hesitation, like before.

But instead, he stepped back.

The sudden distance made my hands fall away from his shirt, leaving me slightly unsteady. My brows furrowed in confusion as I tried to understand the shift in his behavior.

“What’s wrong, Scott?” I asked, lifting my chin slightly. “I am your chosen mate. It’s not like we are committing a sin!” My tone carried both confidence and disbelief, as if the idea of rejection itself didn’t make sense.

But Scott didn’t respond the way I expected.

“Leave, Lillian,” he said coldly as he turned away from me and walked toward his bed. He sat down without looking back. “I need to be alone to collect my thoughts.”

The words hit harder than I expected.

My fingers curled into fists at my sides, nails pressing into my palms as disappointment surged through me. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. Not after what had happened. Not after the way he had looked at me earlier.

But maybe… maybe it was just too sudden for him.

That had to be it.

Still, shouldn’t that confusion make him want me more? Shouldn’t it increase his hunger instead of pushing me away?

Before I could dwell further on it, Scott’s voice cut through the room again.

“Guards!”

An omega entered almost immediately, bowing his head respectfully.

For a brief second, I thought he might be ordering me out. My heart tightened at the possibility, but I forced myself to stay composed. That couldn’t be it.

Then his next words came.

“Call my personal maid. She needs to prepare my bath,” he said casually, as though I wasn’t even standing there.

“Yes, Alpha,” the omega replied quickly before bowing again and leaving the room.

My unease deepened instantly.

A bath?

Now?

My thoughts scrambled as I tried to make sense of it. I took a step closer again, forcing a softer expression onto my face.

“Why don’t you allow me to do that, Scott?” I asked, my voice lowering into something more suggestive, more deliberate. I tried to smile as I continued, “I could help you relieve stress while we bathe together.”

The moment the words left my mouth, heat rushed to my face, and I felt a slight flush rise despite my confidence. I had said it anyway. I had meant it.

But Scott didn’t react the way I wanted.

Silence.

Then his voice exploded through the room.

“Get out!”

The command was sharp, final, and unforgiving.

And in that instant, everything inside me froze.

I realized it immediately.

I had taken the wrong step.

Scott.“She is a threat to the wolf clan.” Sage’s voice echoed loudly in my mind the moment I saw her being bullied. The words replayed with brutal clarity, sharp and unwavering, as I watched the scene unfold in front of me. A threat. That was what she was. And if Sage was right, then it only made sense that she should suffer. It was only right.
