Author’s POV

Jade was spiraling. She left the ballroom without telling anyone. No one had noticed or cared.

She was drunk, but not sloppy. Just enough for the world to feel loud and slow at the same time. The cheers from earlier were still ringing in her head. Every time she blinked, she saw Cassie and Ledger on that stage, dancing like the whole night belonged to them.

She hated the look on his face when he kissed her. Like he meant it. Like it had been her all along.

She hated that he’d flown across the city in a helicopter like some over-the-top movie hero just to get to her. The fact that people had clapped only amplified her dislike.

Even worse… Lady Adelaide had smiled at Cassie. Dorothy had laughed with her. Alison had defended her. Alison. The one person who always saw through people. Even she had picked Cassie.

It didn’t feel fair.

Not when Jade had been the one in Cassie’s corner for years. Not when she’d fought to be seen. Not when she had wanted Ledger first. She had wante

Ledger's POV Everyone drew closer curiously. “You want to reset our plays?” Julian, the one who punched me, asked. He didn’t sound angry, just confused. “Right before the season starts?”I shrugged. “We still have a week left. That's enough time.” He looked doubtful. “Still don’t believe me?” I asked, raising a brow. “Your second team beat you. Three to one. The players you wrote off beat you. And that was with only a few tweaks. Imagine what happens when we overhaul everything properly.”I could see the wheels turning in their heads. They knew I was right. Of course, I was.I was Ledger Rivers, Captain of the Snow Bears team. I lived and breathed hockey. There was nothing else I was better at. Winning the MVP four years in a row in the Monarch Competition wasn’t luck. And I’d bagged MVP three times in a row across all tournaments. That wasn’t a fluke either.Sure, I might not get a fourth this year thanks to the suspension. But I’d win everything else—the Division III league, th

  • Fake Dating With The Playboy hockey Captain   Chapter 76

Ledger's POV I meted out some quick instructions before play resumed.Something shifted after that. The passes were sharper. Communication was clicking.Fortunately for us, the coaches were content to simply watch us play. They didn't offer any advice or instructions. Which meant that the Captains were basically acting coaches. This was good for me since I had somehow become the unspoken captain of this team. And that was my forte.I noticed a couple things. The first team must have been completely reliant on the coach's instructions, because without the coach they kept falling back on the same tactics.Their captain wasn’t acting like a mini-coach; he was more of an errand boy, just relaying orders instead of actually leading.Another thing I noticed was that the second team had spent so much time watching the starters from the bench, that they’d picked up on how they played.I knew all this would only work against them. It was only a matter of time. The game dragged on for a cou

Ledger's POV It wasn't hard to find the local ice house Coach Damian Monae had described. As he said, the facility was only a couple blocks away from our university. And even though I had passed the place several times before, I had never noticed it till now.I began to garner attention as soon as my Bugatti divo drove through the silver gates. I had chosen a flashy ride simply for that purpose. I wanted to make a statement.Players were milling around the lot, tossing pucks, laughing, stretching. The second I stepped out of my car, eyes locked on me. Conversations paused.I didn’t flinch. They all knew who I was. And yeah, I got it. I was the guy with the scandal, the suspension, and a chip on his shoulder the size of Monarchcrest itself. A big-name player now slumming it on a local team. There was bound to be tension. They probably thought I was here to use them as a stepping stone. They weren’t wrong. Not entirely. I did want to stay on the ice. But I also knew I had something to

Cassie’s POVThe smell of something frying tugged me out of sleep… bacon, maybe? And eggs? I looked around, taking in my surroundings. It was darker. Bigger. Familiar in a different way.I was in Ledger’s suite.Still in yesterday’s clothes. My hair was probably a mess.My hand moved to smooth my hair as the memories came trickling back in. I’d come here last night and I’d waited for him. Definitely passed out before he returned. At some point during the night, I’d woken up wrapped up in him. His arms had been around me. Mine had been around him. There had been warmth and safety and… comfort. And I’d just… stayed. Let myself drift off again.I got off the bed and left for the kitchen or wherever the scent led me to. It was as if I had gotten hypnotized. The scent grew stronger the closer I got and it led me to the dining room, where everyone was taking their seats preparing to eat. “You should go wake Cassie up, Ledger. The food might get cold.” Alison was saying. Before Ledger cou

Ledger POVWhen Kylian and I returned home, Alison was waiting in the living room. My gaze shifted to the clock on the wall. Twenty five minutes past ten. Alison looked up the moment we approached. “You two took your time,” she said, sitting up a little. “Gym run that intense?”Kylian gave her a tired smile. “Ledger had a lot of tension he needed to work out.”Alison looked over at me, crossing her arms. “And? How do you feel? Better?”I ran a hand through my damp hair. “A little.”Kylian walked over to her and leaned down. “Thought you’d be asleep by now.”“I decided to wait up.” She said, walking over to Kylian with a small smile on her face. Like she'd missed him. Kylian opened his arms easily and she stepped into them like it was second nature, lifting her up so she wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck. “I missed you.” He whispered.“I missed you more.” She answered softly. They kissed after that. It wasn't long or showy. Just something soft and sure.

Author's POV Ledger had done his best to avoid Cassie for the rest of the day. She had asked for space, yes, but part of him didn’t want her to see him like this, in the aftermath. Not after the suspension. Not when everything was falling apart. He headed straight for the parking lot as soon as his final lecture ended. As he walked to his powerbike, he spotted a group of girls at the side leering lustfully at him. “Nice bike, Ledger. Why don't you take me for a ride?” She asked suggestively. The innuendo was not lost on him.The old Ledger would have smirked and fired back something twice as flirty. He probably would’ve given her his number and taken her back to that apartment he liked to use in the hotel’s residential wing. The same place that had recorded he and Cassie's intimacy. He thought in annoyance.Ledger got onto his bike and zoomed off without a word.***There was no sign of Ledger.Cassie had already checked the rink, the gym, the locker room hallway, even the spot behi
