Sarra's POV

"This is terrible," I said, taking another bite of our lumpy pasta.

"The worst," Ronan agreed, twirling another forkful.

"But somehow also kind of good?"

"That's the power of low expectations."

We finished eating on my floor, the bottle of wine half-empty between us. My apartment felt warmer somehow, less lonely with him here filling the space with his presence and terrible cooking skills.

"We should clean up," I said, even though I didn't want to move.

"Probably."

Neither of us moved for another minute. Then Ronan stood and offered me his hand. I took it, letting him pull me up, and we headed to the kitchen.

We worked in comfortable silence, me washing, him drying with the same sad dish towel from this morning. Our arms brushed as we moved around each other in the tiny space, and every touch sent little sparks through me.

"Want to watch a movie?" he asked, hanging up the towel.

I hesitated. He should probably leave. We'd had breakfast, we'd had dinner, we'd laughed and ma

Ronan's POV"Come with me." I said reaching for her.She shook her head. "Ronan, she hates me right now—""I don't care." I grabbed her hand. "I need you there."She looked at me for a long moment, then nodded. "Okay."We didn't talk much on the drive. I kept one hand on the wheel, the other on her knee, driving faster than I should through empty streets. The city lights blurred past, everything too bright and too loud."Whatever happens in there," I said quietly, "we're together. Okay?"She covered my hand with hers. "Okay."But she looked terrified. The hospital parking lot was nearly empty. I found a spot near the emergency entrance and killed the engine. Neither of us moved for a second."Ready?" I asked."No." But she opened her door anyway.Inside, the fluorescent lights made everything look washed out and wrong. The smell of antiseptic hit me immediately—that particular hospital smell that made my stomach turn.Clara was in the waiting room, pacing. Her mascara had run in dark

  • Fake Dating the Hollywood Billionaire    Chapter 54: Surprise

Ronan's POVSurprise me? What did that even mean?I stared at my phone, trying to decode two words like they were some ancient riddle. Did she want Chinese? Italian? Both? Neither? Was this a test?I typed: "That's a lot of pressure."Her response came immediately: "You can handle it."Fair point. I'd handled worse. Like that time I had to do a love scene with an actress who'd eaten garlic bread for lunch. Or when I accidentally called my director "Mom" during a table read. This was just dinner. How hard could it be?I started the car and headed home, already planning. Chinese was safe—lo mein, dumplings, maybe some orange chicken. But Italian was romantic—pasta, wine, tiramisu if I could find a good one.Wait. Was I trying to be romantic or safe?My phone rang. Lexi."Not now," I muttered, declining the call. She called again immediately.I sighed and answered. "What?""Have you seen the new article?"My stomach dropped. "What article?""Ethan gave an interview. It went live twenty m

  • Fake Dating the Hollywood Billionaire    Chapter 53: The Morning After

Ronan's POVI woke up with a crick in my neck and someone staring at me.Sarra stood in the kitchen doorway, coffee mug in both hands, watching me like I was a stray dog that had wandered into her apartment."You're still here," she said flatly.I sat up, rubbing my neck. Her couch was about two feet too short and had a spring that had tried to murder me around three a.m. "Good morning to you too.""Ronan, I told you to leave.""No, you told me you needed space. I gave you space." I gestured at the three feet between the couch and her bedroom door. "Plenty of space."She stared at me. "That's not what I meant.""I know." I stood up, wincing as my back protested. "But you also didn't lock the door behind me. I took that as an invitation.""That's called breaking and entering.""That's called being optimistic." I walked toward her kitchen. "Coffee?""Are you serious right now?""Very." I opened cabinets until I found a mug. "You only have one?""I live alone.""Depressing." I poured mys

  • Fake Dating the Hollywood Billionaire    Chapter 52

Sarra's POVMy apartment felt smaller than I remembered.I sat on the couch in the dark, phone face-down on the cushion beside me. It had been buzzing nonstop for the past three hours. Texts, calls, notifications—all of them saying the same thing in different ways.*Homewrecker…you're disgusting…Clara deserves better than a friend like you.I'd made the mistake of opening social media once. Just once. The comments were everywhere—under the article, under old photos of me and Clara, under pictures from Ronan's premiere. People I'd never met, saying things that made my stomach turn.Someone had found my Instagram and filled my DMs with threats. Another person dug up my college photos and started a thread about how I'd "always been desperate for attention."I'd turned off my phone after that. Now I sat in the silence, watching headlights pass across my living room wall. My stomach growled, but I couldn't remember the last time I'd eaten. Breakfast in Mexico, maybe? That felt like a lifet

  • Fake Dating the Hollywood Billionaire    Chapter 51: Reality Bites

Ronan's POVThe drive back felt different.Sarra sat in the passenger seat with her knees pulled up, staring out the window at the passing landscape. She'd been quiet since we packed up that morning, barely touching the coffee I'd made."You okay?" I asked for the third time."Yeah." She didn't look at me. "Just thinking.""About what?""Everything." She wrapped her arms around her knees. "Tomorrow we're back to normal life. Press, cameras, all of it."I reached over and squeezed her hand. "We'll handle it."She nodded but didn't say anything else.I kept glancing at her as I drove, trying to read her expression. The closer we got to LA, the more she seemed to withdraw into herself. By the time we hit the city limits, she'd put her sunglasses on even though the sun was behind clouds."Sarra—""I'm fine," she said quickly. "Really."But she wasn't. I could tell. When we turned onto my street, I saw them immediately. At least twenty photographers clustered around the entrance to my buil
