JAMIE'S POV

I didn't expect the day to come so fast. In just two weeks, I had become Ethan's boyfriend and was on my way to meet his grandma Margaret.

I knew Margaret wasn't homophobic. She knew about my sexuality since I was a child, but when compared to her favorite son, I didn't think she'd accept me so easily.

“Don't look so tense, you'll give yourself away,” Ethan said, with his hands over his eyes.

How did he see me?

We were in his car, with the driver taking us to his family home.

“I haven't seen her in years. How has she been? Is there anything I should know?”

Ethan dropped his hands and frowned at the question.

“She is fine, now stop worrying,” he snapped.

I swallowed and became silent. Not long, we arrived at the massive gate and drove inside. This place had a lot of memories of me and Ethan as children.

“My grandma is already waiting for us. Take a deep breath, put a smile on your face and be my lovely boyfriend,” Ethan whispered, with a wink.

Oh boy.

We came out as soon as the car stopped.

I had taken just a few steps when I stopped. It wasn't just Grandma Margaret that was present. There was also Trevor, two women beside him and an uncle.

I thought it was going to be just us!

“Oh Ethan darling, it's been so long,” Margaret exclaimed as Ethan pulled her into his embrace.

“I've missed you too grandma,” he said.

Margaret pulled away and that was when she saw me.

“Jamie? Is that you?” She sounded shocked.

I moved to Ethan's side, smiling widely. “Yes, ma'am.”

“Oh stop calling me that and call Grandma,” she cautioned. “You've grown to become a fine young man.”

“Thank you Grandma. You look beautiful as always.” And she did.

Despite the age telling on her face, she was dressed in a simple gown and had a glowing skin. I could tell she spends a fortune to look so good.

She laughed and then looked behind me.

“Where is she?” She muttered.

My face fell and I stiffened.

“Where’s the girlfriend you told Grandma you'd be coming with?” Trevor asked, with a fake grin.

Ethan threw him a glare while my hands started sweating. I knew this wasn't a real relationship, but the man I loved was about to introduce me to his family.

Even if it was fake, I was still scared.

“No, I told Grandma I'd be coming with my partner and I did,” Ethan clarified and then grabbed my hands. “Grandma, this is my boyfriend, Jamie.”

Everyone was stunned.

Margaret blinked, her gaze shuffling from Ethan to me and back to our intertwined hands. And finally after a while, she let out a strangled breath.

“Let's go inside,” she said and turned to leave.

Ethan was about to help her when she stepped away from him. Trevor ended up walking her in.

“I don't think we thought this through. I should go,” I muttered and turned to leave.

This particular scene brought back the memories I was trying to forget. Especially how my dad reacted when he found out about my sexuality.

I wasn't about to go through it again.

“No, wait.” Ethan stopped me. “I know what you're thinking but my grandma isn't like that.”

“Ethan…”

“Let's just go inside first. We are already here,” he pleaded, with fear in his eyes.

I didn't want to disappoint him but I also didn't want that scene to play over again.

“Just this once. If they reject me, I'm booking a hotel and won't care about the contract.”

Ethan nodded and tugged my arm. I followed him inside.

We entered and saw everyone seated silently. Margaret stood up when she saw us.

“Come with me to my study. Both of you.” She started walking away.

Ethan and I shared a look and followed her obediently.

We entered the office and sat down.

“Ethan, are you doing this because I pressured you to get married?”

“What?” Ethan frowned. “Grandma, Jamie is my…”

“Boyfriend, I heard you! But you have never been attracted to men,” she replied. “What's going on?” Her voice broke.

From the look on her face, she was about to lose her composure.

Ethan placed his hand on my knees. I didn't know if he wanted to comfort me or stop me from panicking.

“Grandma, there's nothing going on. You know Jamie and I have been best friends since childhood. Why is it strange that we are dating now?”

Margaret shook her head.

“Because he is a man!”

I sat quietly and listened as I was being humiliated because of Ethan. This was my fear.

“A man that I love, Grandma. Can't you see this is the reason why I've never liked any girl you sent to me?”

She became silent, which added more tension. Was she going to accept me or send me out? Ethan's grip tightened.

She glanced at me again. “And what about you, Jamie? Do you love Ethan?”

I was surprised she asked that and quickly nodded.

“I do.”

Tears filled her eyes but she blinked it away. “Are your parents aware?”

I lowered my gaze.

“Not yet.” More like they wouldn't want to know either.

To them, I was a disgrace, a stain to their image in society.

“I'm guessing they don't accept this either,” Margaret kept going on and I clenched my teeth.

“Grandma!” Ethan called out.

“Let me speak!” She snapped. “If you're going to be my grandson in law, then I'd like you to have some spine. Lift your head and look at me!”

I raised my head at her sharp tone and stared into her eyes.

Margaret had brown eyes just like Ethan, but hers was a bit darker.

“Since you love my grandson and he loves you too, I won't be the grandma that separates lovers,” she said and stood up.

“It will be hard for me to understand but I'll try my best. Welcome to the family Jamie,” she opened her arms wide.

I glanced at Ethan. He nudged me.

“Don't keep my grandma waiting.”

At that, I stood up and ran to hug her. Relief coursed through my body. It was strangely what I didn't expect.

She had accepted me. So fast!

“Now, I have another grandson to dote on,” she pats me on the back. “Let's go out. I'll introduce you to everyone.”

She pulled away and walked out.

Ethan stood up from his seat, looking proud. “I told you to trust me.”

I grinned. “Well I did,” I lied.

Ethan arched an eyebrow, then he offered his hand.

“Come on boyfriend, let's go and meet my family.”

My stomach turned warm at his words. I held his hands and we walked out of the office, only to see Trevor standing there with his arms crossed.

Shit. Was he listening to our conversation?

“What are you doing here?” Ethan snapped.

Trevor ignored him and stared at me.

“Jamie, Jamie,” he called out in a mocking tone. “What did he offer you to act in this drama? Tell me and I'll double it.”

“Excuse me?”

“After all, Ethan might be an asshole but he is not an ass man.”

My jaw dropped.

“You bastard!”

Ethan's fist collided with Trevor's nose and I heard a breaking sound.

Oh no.

ETHAN'S POV I winced as the tip of the bud touched my cheeks. It wasn't really painful yet I felt the urge to act like a child in front of him. Jamie was glaring at me viciously as he applied medicine on my bruised cheeks. I didn't expect to get so angry at Trevor. But what he had said pulled out instincts that I never had before. The instinct to protect Jamie. I brought him here so it was only right that I defend him. Trevor had been the unfortunate one to get beaten up. Jamie stood up to leave. Without thinking, I grabbed his wrist and pulled a bit too hard. He lost his balance and started falling. Before I could react, he fell on me, pushing my back to the bed. “Oh my goodness!” I heard someone gasp. Jamie's eyes widened and he scrambled away from me. I sat up to see my grandma.“The door was unlocked. I didn't expect to see the both of you so…” she trailed off while pointing at Jamie then at me. “Grandma, it's not…” Jamie tried to explain when she shook her head. “I'll ex

JAMIE'S POVEach stroke of my brush was like a small piece coming together. They aligned, the image in my head finally coming to life.Almost done. My creation. I was three brush strokes away from completing the face, when I felt the buzz from my phone and the song playing in my earphone stopped. I picked up the phone and looked at it. Ethan Cole. My heart skipped.Instead of answering, I placed it down and continued painting. I wasn't ignoring it because I was mad. I was just…Ok, maybe a little bit angry. I wasn't ready to play therapist to the billionaire who ghosted me for three weeks. We used to speak almost everyday, but now, he'd only call when he wanted something. The phone buzzed again and I gave in. I knew he wasn't going to stop unless I answered. “Wrong number,” I snapped. The line went silent for a moment, then I heard him sigh. “Hello to you too, Jamie.” And I felt my insides coil deliciously at the sound of his voice. It weakened the anger in me.“Spit it out.

ETHAN'S POV“I'm very serious about this, Ethan. A married man is the best leader for my company. I won't give it to you just because you're my favorite!” My grandmother, Margaret yelled through the phone. I groaned and closed my eyes. This was definitely not what I wanted to hear from her at this moment. I had a lot going through my mind already. “Grandma, can we not talk about this?” I grumbled, unable to speak harshly to her. I knew she was saying all these because she cared. And wanted a great grandchild. “Ethan Cole! You won't shut me up!” She snapped. From the sound of her voice, I could already tell she was getting pissed.“I'm not, Grandma. I'm actually in the office and have a meeting in the next two minutes. Why don't I call you back when I'm done?” I suggested. “No, I don't believe you. And stop lying to me. I asked Andre for your schedule before calling so I know you don't have any meetings for the next thirty minutes.” Oh shit!Andre!!Was she planning on talking a
