2. Total Jerk

With a heavy breath and I dragged my body, I walked helplessly toward Lindsay’s apartment. And yes—when she said she would drag me… she literally meant it. Literally!! Here I am now, trailing behind her as we enter the luxurious lobby of her high-rise apartment, heading toward her even more luxurious unit.

I already knew he would be there. Iewhgh! David. Based on what Lindsay said earlier, he was the one funding her entire engagement with Rick. Of course he’d show up. Of course. Geez.

Aww… seriously?

“Cheer up, won’t you?” Lindsay turned to me inside the elevator. “Why do you look like you’re going to a funeral? This is your best friend’s engagement prep!”

I forced a smile. A very, very fake one.

“Wow… I’m so excited,” I muttered flatly.

She squinted at me. “That sarcasm was painful.”

I didn’t answer. Because honestly? I felt like I was walking straight into a battlefield. My worst… arch-enemy. Top Nemesis.

We arrived at her apartment unit. Lindsay strolled in like she owned the universe—dropping her bags and shoes wherever she pleased. No stress, no cleanup worries. Of course, she had staff for that.

Meanwhile me? I live in a tiny rented room near campus. Three by four meters. Somehow I turned it into four “sections”—bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and a mini studio. I know. Genius level. Still… this place always makes me feel like I belong in a different world.

I glanced around carefully. Suspicious. Quiet. Too quiet. I held my breath as I slowly moved from room to room, almost tiptoeing like a thief trying not to trigger a trap. Where is he…?

“Heh, fat girl.” A rough voice came from the kitchen.

My entire body froze. I turned. And there he was. David Robinson. Standing there shirtless, only wearing boxers, holding a spoon like he had all the time in the world. In front of him—cereal in a bowl. He looked at me like I was some kind of annoying bug.

“Wow…” I whispered under my breath. “You’re really here…” My brain screamed *run*, so I did exactly that. I turned around instantly and walked out of the kitchen without a single word. Nope. Not today. Not mentally prepared. I headed straight to the living room.

Lindsay was there with Rick—sitting close, wrapped in each other like a couple already halfway married. In front of them stood a neatly dressed woman holding several design modules.

“Rose, help me choose the venue!” Lindsay called happily. I sat beside her, glancing at the pages.

“Aww… rustic theme, huh?” I said slowly, scanning the designs. “That’s actually trending right now… wow.”

The event organizer nodded politely. “If you want rustic, usually we use dried flowers. But you mentioned you want fresh flowers, right?”

Lindsay pouted. “But I want real flowers!”

Rick didn’t say anything. He just hugged her from behind like a silent agreement machine.

I frowned, thinking.

“Don’t frown,” a voice suddenly came beside me. “You’re already fat. Ugly. Short. If you frown more, you’ll get wrinkles too. That is too perfect defect collection for human kind."

My head snapped sideways. David. Of course.

He had appeared out of nowhere and casually sat next to me like he belonged there.

"Wow…” I exhaled sharply. “Do you teleport or something?” I am trying my very best not to curse my amazing collection of bad words...and taking full restrain for my brain not to make a voodoo dolls to actually curse him..he is my best friend brother.

He ignored me. I ignored him harder. My eyes stayed on the design sheets… but my brain? Completely distracted by the fact that he was shirtless *again*. Ugh. Why does an athlete always have to look like that?

“It’s a mix,” I said suddenly, pointing at one of the designs. “Rustic at the entrance, wooden tableware, dried accents… but inside, romantic elegant vibe with fresh flowers. Lindsay wants both, right?”

Lindsay leaned closer. “Ooh… I like that. Rose, you’re useful sometimes.”

“Wow… thanks,” I muttered. Probably still mad about her birthday.

The EO nodded. “This venue rental is around five hundred million for two to three hours.”

Before I could even process that number—

“I’ll pay for it,” David said lazily, leaning back. “As long as my sister agrees. Money isn’t a problem.”

The EO blinked. And then—oh wow. She actually blushed. Seriously? I scoffed under my breath. “Show-off.”

“What did you say?” David leaned in suddenly, grabbing my chin and turning my face toward him. Too close. Way too close.

I smiled lazily. “Nothing.”

He smirked.

“Fat girl… you’ve gained weight again, haven’t you? You look like a hippo now.”

Aww. There it is again. Classic David. I sighed and looked away like it didn’t bother me anymore. Because it didn’t. At least… that’s what I told myself.

The EO coughed lightly, trying not to laugh. “So… shall we confirm this venue?”

Lindsay nodded. “Yes. Deal.”

“Great,” the EO smiled. “I’ll contact you again if there’s anything else—”

She suddenly turned to David, eyes sparkling. “Sir David… can I take a photo with you?”

She already had her phone ready.

David stood up immediately. “No.” Cold. Fast. Final. Such an unrespectful jerk.

And just like that, he walked toward the guest room without another glance. The EO blinked awkwardly, lowering her phone.

“Wow…” I muttered quietly. “So charming. Truly a national treasure.” Me being sarcastic and rolled my eyes.

From the hallway, David’s voice floated back without stopping:

“I heard that.”

I froze.

“…Oh.” Silence.

Then— His door shut. And somehow… that tiny moment made my heart beat a little too loudly for reasons I absolutely refused to understand. Did he have special spider-sense hearing only to his enemy? and that's me??

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   14. A Kiss - Experiment

Dave eventually gave in, though it was obvious he wasn't happy about it, and drove us back to his apartment in the heart of the city. Wealth had surrounded him since birth, and every corner of this place reflected that reality. Expensive furniture, custom lighting, and elegant décor blended together so naturally that luxury almost felt ordinary here. It was a world completely different from the one I had grown up in.As we walked through the long foyer, my attention drifted toward the impressive art collection lining the walls. Several paintings were unmistakably created by world-renowned artists, accompanied by sculptures and exquisite decorative pieces crafted from gold and rare materials. Everything had been arranged with remarkable taste, turning the hallway into something closer to a private gallery than an apartment. I couldn't stop looking around."I didn't know you were into art," I said, slowing my pace to admire another painting. Dave walked a few steps behind me with his ha

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   13. Night view With a Ring

Dave and I were sitting in the restaurant on the hotel's ground floor. He was still as stubborn as ever, insisting that I follow him wherever he went without giving me the chance to refuse. Tonight was no exception, because apparently midnight was the perfect time for him to satisfy his hunger. Lindsay and Lili had decided to stay one more night and leave the next morning, just like the two of us.Ever since everything that had happened earlier, Dave had insisted that we share the same suite. I had only agreed after making it crystal clear that he would sleep on the couch while I claimed the bed. Somehow, every single morning, I still woke up to find him sleeping beside me instead. Strangely enough, nothing inappropriate had happened while I was asleep, and that alone confused me even more."You're not eating?" Dave asked while cutting into an enormous double-portion rack of ribs. It looked ridiculously heavy for someone who constantly lectured me about calories and body fat. Accordin

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   12. 24/7 Lover

I slapped his hand away before it could touch my shoulder. The nerve of this man was unbelievable after everything he had put me through. He had insulted me countless times, stolen my first kiss, and now he expected me to become his girlfriend as though I had no say in the matter. Did he honestly think I was some doll he could order around?"No... Hell... Way!" I said sharply. Instead of feeling offended, he smiled even more."You guys get out, I have to talk to my new girlfriend..." Dave ordered Lindsay and Lili, which they surprisingly obeyed without resistance. They both left the room, leaving Dave and me alone in the room."You're too annoying to be my girlfriend," I said, starting a discussion that would hopefully lead to a heated argument."Me? Annoying? There are millions of women out there waiting to be in your position.""They must be crazy. Come on, Dave, I'm quitting being your assistant, and since Lindsay's engagement is off... I'm also moving out of your apartment... I wa

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   11. Free The Willy!

Dave, maybe still burning with anger... he stopped only for one minute...but start going berserk again the next minute."Dave...Dave...!" I threw myself at him, clinging desperately to his arm. His fists kept flying.Again....Again....Again.Each punch landed with terrifying force, smashing into Rick's face, chest, and head until blood splattered across the floor. Rick's body convulsed violently. He struggled for breath, barely conscious. But Dave showed no sign of stopping. He looked completely consumed by rage."Dave, he's going to die!" I grabbed his arm again and screamed at the top of my lungs. Behind me, Lindsay was trembling in Lili's embrace. She looked utterly shattered—caught between grief and horror as she watched the man she'd once loved being beaten nearly to death."Rose!" Lili's frantic voice rang out. "Rick's dying!"Panic surged through me. Dave wasn't listening. Not to me.Not to anyone."He's not hearing a word I'm saying!" I cried in frustration."Distract him!" Li

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   10. Engagement's PARTY

Dave had rented out an entire floor of the Ritz-Carlton in Las Vegas. The hotel's grand ballroom would serve as the venue for Lindsay and Rick's engagement party. I'd already bought a dress suitable for the event tomorrow night.Lili and I shared a room, while Rowena and Gracia stayed next door. Dave occupied the hotel's finest suite, with Lindsay's room right beside his. We would be staying here for three days, since the engagement celebration was scheduled for tomorrow evening."I've spent a ridiculous amount of money on this engagement," Dave grumbled as he signed yet another receipt. "So you'd better start treating me like your favorite brother, Sis."Lindsay answered him with the brightest smile imaginable.Earlier, she'd told me Dave had just paid every single expense in full—from the ballroom and decorations to their honeymoon after the engagement. I just can't understand...why in the world... there is a honeymoon after an engagement. why don't they wait till the wedding? I gue

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   9. First Kiss?

I felt so much better now. Today marked, as the last day of my final exams. For the past few weeks, I'd been staying at Lindsay's apartment while Alice took care of me. Every two hours without fail, she brought me food and my medication. Thanks to her, I had regained my strength, and my body felt lighter than it had in months.I had just finished my last exam, while Lindsay had completed hers nearly three hours earlier. She'd promised to wait for me in the parking lot.And here I was... Looking for both Lindsay and her car. I tried calling her, but she didn't answer. Just then, a white SUV pulled up in front of me."Get in." The driver's window rolled halfway down. I bent over slightly to see who owned that irritating voice. As if I didn't already know. It was Dave!!!Seriously...? When did he get back? Two days ago, I'd finally finished replying to every advertising proposal he'd forwarded to me. I had carefully organized every campaign, attaching detailed notes about the concepts, c
