SERAPHINA

I walked down the dungeon stairs with a smile on my face. The torches on the walls were lit the smell of damp stone filled my nose. I could hear the chains before I even saw him.

Lucian sat on the floor of his cell looking pathetic. His clothes were dirty and his hair was messy. He looked up when he heard my footsteps and his face went pale.

"Hello Lucian," I said and stopped right in front of the bars. "How are you enjoying your new accommodations?"

He did not say anything. He just stared at me with those green eyes of his. I hated those eyes. I hated everything about him actually.

"What do you want, Seraphina?" he finally asked. His voice was quiet and tired.

I laughed and crossed my arms. "I just wanted to see how you were doing. After all, it is not every day that someone gets accused of stealing from the Lycan King himself."

"I did not steal anything," Lucian said and his voice got a little louder. "You know I did not do it."

"Do I?" I tilted my head and pretended to t

LUCIAN I swear by the moon goddess, I am crazy. Delusional and CrazyWhat the fucking hell was I thinking?I glanced at Elias, different emotions behind his eyes."You should go inside," I said more firmly, my heart beating in my chest like crazy.Elias seemed different, looking a little more normal, was it because of the spell I was subtly adding in my tone to get him to lock himself up until the rut was over or was it the blood moon messing with his head?He hasn't even noticed the sarcasm in Luke's voice when he spoke to him earlier. This was unlike Elias. He was feral yesterday and yet called me sweet names as he made me a mess him.So it had to be the blood moon messing with him. Definitely had to be..Elias frowned, staring at me as if he was trying to give something out behind his fogy mind.I panicked. The spell wasn't working. I can't go back to that room with him.I don't want to go back in there.I bit down on my upper lip nervously and turned on my heels.I didn't

ELIAS Somehow he escaped, I don't know how but he did.The Blood Moon rose like it had a personal grudge against me.It glowed too red, too full, hanging over the palace roof like some arrogant reminder that I was cursed with a body that didn’t listen to logic. Rut season had never been easy for me, but this… this was something else. My bones felt too tight. My skin felt too hot. And my lungs kept drawing in air like there was something in it I desperately needed. No… someone.Lucian Ashbourne.I hated myself for how badly I wanted him. Every Blood Moon made it worse. I could pretend during normal days… pretend to be composed, pretend to be kingly… but rut season always stripped all that away. It made me raw. Restless. Hungry in a way that made no damn sense. And tonight? I was seconds away from snapping.I slammed open my windows, hoping cold night air would calm me. It didn’t. My scent… woodsy, spice, heated… only grew sharper. I could smell my own frustration. Then, faintly, the w

My heart thrashed against my ribs as I watched him, chained to the stone wall like a feral god dragged from a nightmare. Elias’s eyes were no longer the warm amber I knew, they were blood-red, burning like two dying stars. His fangs jutted past his lips, sharp enough to tear through steel, and every breath he took came out as a ragged snarl that vibrated through the chamber.“Elias…” My voice cracked as I tightened my grip on the vial, the concoction trembling in my hands. I took a cautious step forward, but froze as soon as roared. The sound slammed into me like a physical force. Before I could blink, he surged forward, his muscles bulging instantly. The chains snap, and the iron links whipped across the room as the restraints burst apart. Elias tore free of the wall in a violent explosion of movement. For a moment, he stood frozen in place, breathing heavily while trying to calm his nerves. Then suddenly, his gaze slammed into mine. I stumbled back, clutching the concoction to my

SERAPHINA He doesn't want to…I stormed into my father’s hall like the floor offended me. My heels kept hitting the marbled tiles too loudly, but I didn’t care. Let them echo. Let everyone in this cursed house know I was angry. Again. The ‘old’ man sat on his throne-like chair… because of course he needed something dramatic to crush people's hopes and boost his ego… reading one scroll like he had the patience of ten lifetimes. He didn’t look up when I entered. He didn’t blink. Nothing. It was as if he didn’t notice the human hurricane moving toward him.Hardly surprising.“Father,” I snapped, folding my arms.He hummed. Just hummed.I hated when he did that.“Father!”He finally raised his head, very slowly, like I was some child disturbing him during meditation. His eyes were cold. Always cold. “Saraphina… what has happened again? Who upset you this time?”“Who else?” I threw my hands in the air. “Elias! Elias Ashbourne! The Lycan King you keep p

LUCIAN I heard footsteps coming down the stairs again and my whole body tensed up. I thought maybe Seraphina was coming back to mock me some more but when I looked up I saw Luke instead."Luke," I said and stood up quickly. The chains rattled as I moved closer to the bars.Luke looked at me and there was something sad in his blue eyes. He walked over to my cell and just stared at me for a moment without saying anything."Little bird," he finally said and his voice was quiet. "I am disappointed in you."I blinked in confusion. "What? Why?""You did not run away with me when I asked you to," Luke said and crossed his arms. "We could have been far away from here by now. You could have been free and safe with me but you chose to stay.""Luke I could not just leave," I said and gripped the bars. "This is my home now. I could not just abandon everything.""And look where that got you," Luke said and gestured at the cell around me. "Locked up like a criminal while Elias believes you are a t

LUKESmoke hit me first. Then blood. The scent crashed into me half a mile from the palace gates—thick, metallic, wrong. My wolf surged beneath my skin, hackles rising. That particular combination of smells meant only one thing: someone had shifted violently. Someone had lost control. My blood began to boil. Literally—I could feel it heating in my veins, that ancestral warning system every wolf was born with. It meant danger. It meant death was close.I'd been returning from the border. Now I broke into a sprint. The palace was busier than a market. Guards shouted over each other in a cacophony of panic and orders. Medics rushed past me carrying supplies—wolfsbane tincture, yarrow for clotting, silver-lined restraints. Servants cried in the corridors, their faces pale with shock. What was wrong? My eyes widened. Then I saw her.Seraphina lay on a stretcher, soaked in her own pool of blood. The blood dripped through the slats, leaving a trail on the stone. She was pale, bloodied and l
