Chapter 2

Penulis: Warm Heart
I was wondering why Rebecca looked so familiar. It turned out she was the same specialist who had failed to restore a limited-edition handbag six months ago.

She had sent someone to beg me for help, and I had easily solved the issue.

An internationally certified restoration specialist like me was extremely rare in the industry. I wondered if Kate knew that she was going to ruin Gilded Ages' reputation by hiring an incompetent specialist like Rebecca to replace me.

But well, the store's reputation was going to go down the drain once I left anyway.

Feeling amused, I said, "Have you forgotten about the huge blunder you made six months ago, Ms. Huntington? Did you already forget about how you became the laughingstock of the industry? Do you have the memory of a goldfish or something?"

My colleagues covered their mouths to muffle their laughter.

"Why did she hire the disgrace of the industry?"

"I know, right. Her skills are probably far inferior to Lily's. What if she accidentally identifies a counterfeit as a real product?"

They hadn't bothered to lower their voices as they discussed among themselves.

Rebecca frowned slightly. A stern expression crossed her face as she said, "You can't beat me, no matter how skilled you are, Lilian. Not only can I provide excellent service to our clients, but I also have a good grasp of the lower-tier markets and can integrate both audiences into our business plans."

She arched her brow and continued haughtily, "Overestimating one's skills because of easy circumstances is a one-way ticket to a person's downfall. You sure are something else for having the guts to spout nonsense when you're about to be kicked to the curb like trash."

I burst out laughing. After all, no one had the authority to fire me except for the boss of Gilded Ages.

Rebecca grew visibly uncomfortable when I scrutinized her.

"You're right. You know that your skills are abysmal compared to mine, so the only way you can feel superior to me is by being appointed to a position above me. Can you really tell me that you managed to secure your position with your skills? What a joke."

I stared at Rebecca as she swallowed nervously.

The people around us scrutinized Rebecca as well. Their gazes felt like blades that cut deeply into her pride.

Rebecca hastily pulled out a document. She puffed out her cheeks and glared daggers at me.

"Look for yourself! Mr. Samson personally approved my letter of appointment. I'll have you know that he's also the one who told me to replace you. Oh, and one more thing. We're getting married next month, which will make me your boss as well."

I was momentarily stunned by her words.

It was no wonder Kate and Rebecca had the guts to behave so preposterously. They had someone supporting them behind the scenes.

No one knew about this, but Terence Samson was my husband. He was also the reason why I had willingly worked as a low-level employee in Gilded Ages for so many years.

Five years ago, the Samson family attempted to make a name for themselves in the fashion industry. Unfortunately for them, they failed spectacularly.

Backed into a corner, Terence's father, Tom Samson, sought out Dad and used their friendship to ask him for help.

They used to be classmates. Dad's family circumstances weren't great when he was a student, and he could only afford to eat bread for most of his meals.

Tom ended up taking charge of Dad's meals for an entire year, which Dad was incredibly grateful for.

As a result, Dad asked me to repay Tom's kindness on his behalf.

Tom ended up asking me to start a business in the second-hand market for luxury goods.

Many people flocked to Gilded Ages because of my reputation. It didn't take long for the shop to become famous.

Terence had also professed his love for me around that time.

Suspecting that the Samson family was just trying to tie me down, I repeatedly rejected Terence's advances, advising him not to use his future to ensure the shop's continued prosperity.

However, Terence had been adamant about marrying me. In the end, I caved in and agreed to date him with marriage in mind.

Terence's betrayal had blindsided me. It seemed that, from his perspective, I had exhausted my usefulness. And so, he didn't hesitate to replace me with Rebecca.

I had placed my confidence in the wrong person.

I pursed my lips and looked at Rebecca. "Do you know that Mr. Samson is my husband? Aren't you afraid of being called the other woman?"

Rebecca suddenly burst into laughter. A hint of mirth flickered in her eyes as she exclaimed, "What a joke! You're just one of his employees. Who do you think you're fooling?"

Kate chimed in, "In what world would Mr. Samson ever have eyes for you?"

A BMW suddenly appeared on the scene and stopped between us at that moment.

Terence, dressed in a black, tailored suit, got out of the car. He immediately approached Rebecca and elegantly grabbed her hand, saying, "Don't be scared."

The next day, I dropped by Gilded Ages. All of the employees had been laid off by then.Terence shuffled closer to me. When he suddenly tried to kiss me, I reflexively slapped him."What are you doing?" I demanded. "You disgust me!"Tears streaked down Terence's face as he kneeled on the ground."I'm begging you, Lilian. Please give me another chance. I'll report my location to you at all times if we remarry. Rebecca's the one who led me astray. It's all her fault."The way Terence sobbed was reminiscent of an upset child. He even tried to unbutton his shirt.I redid his buttons before I turned my back to him, saying, "I'm not attracted to you anymore, Terence. Stop embarrassing yourself."Terence's eyes turned hollow. He crawled toward me and grabbed my leg. "Please give me another chance! I'll change everything that you don't like about me!""Stop being delusional. I won't forgive you so easily."I freed myself from Terence's grasp and rose to my feet, preparing to leave.

"Dad!" Terence exclaimed, looking as if his savior had just arrived. He threw himself into Tom's arms and wailed. "Hurry and talk to her, Dad! Convince her to go back to Gilded Ages to make money for the Samson family again!"Tom slapped Terence hard across the face.Terence covered his cheek with his hand and shrank back into a corner."How dare you?" Tom spat. "The two of you are husband and wife. What do you mean, 'to make money for the Samson family'? Every cent that Lilian earns rightfully belongs to her."I expected nothing less from Tom. He was a veteran of the business world, so it made sense that he knew exactly what to say to smooth over the situation. After berating Terence, Tom slowly directed his gaze to me."I heard about what happened from Terence, Lily. Your father and I were best friends. Our families share a connection that's thicker than blood. Can't you find it in yourself to forgive Terence?""I'm sorry, Mr. Samson," I replied, intentionally addressing him

"Have you lost your mind?" I retorted. "I didn't do anything to you!"Terence stuck his nose in the air. His eyes burned with fury as he began berating me."You're so shameless! You used the one million dollars that I gave you to open Treasure Trove. You plan to drive Gilded Ages into the ground and ruin my blood, sweat, and tears!"Terence was acting utterly unreasonably.I should have received much more than one million dollars when we got divorced. It was obvious that Terence had never considered the possibility that he was the source of all his problems.I suddenly felt like I was suffocating. My tongue felt as heavy as lead.It was unhealthy for people to live in their own bubbles. If they didn't get their way, they would mistakenly assume that the other person was attacking them."This is a business street, Terence," I said. "There are plenty of branded stores here. I had no intention of targeting Gilded Ages when I decided to open my shop here. It's not right for you to

"It's been some time since you dropped by," Terence said. "Our VIP room is always ready for you!"A hint of surprise flickered in Charlie's eyes. He knew that Terence and I were divorced, so he was a little bewildered to see Terence at the opening of my shop. However, Charlie was a well-mannered man who treated everyone politely, especially since Terence hadn't done anything to offend him."Mr. Samson. I've been quite busy recently. I've been Lily's customer for a long time, so it's only natural that I support her for her shop's opening. Don't worry. I won't neglect Gilded Ages either. I'll be fair to both of you," he explained with a smile.Terence breathed a sigh of relief. He pressed closer to Charlie and whispered, "If you'd like to sell any of your goods, be sure to do it at Gilded Ages. You'll definitely be satisfied with our prices. We also have plenty of funds.""Of course," Charlie answered, his body stiffening slightly as he arched his brow.I simply smiled and didn't s

Terence's expression turned stormy as I tried to poach his employees right in front of his face. He felt both humiliated and furious. The five employees nodded vigorously when I made eye contact with them."I wanted to quit Gilded Ages a long time ago, Lily! They've only been paying us our base salary.""I want to come too!"They were incredibly enthusiastic. I grinned from ear to ear as I handed each of them a gold charm."You'll have to show me your commitment if you want to join me. These charms are your welcome gifts. I'll bring you to a tailor tomorrow to order some new clothes. We can't embarrass ourselves in the eyes of the public."The employees grinned. Since they already had experience from working in Gilded Ages, they could immediately start without any training.Terence's face was twisted in fury as he watched his former employees abandon him to join me.Meanwhile, Kate dashed over to us while cursing up a storm."Have you lost your minds? Who allowed you to leave

Terence constantly flaunted his new relationship on his social media. He and Rebecca were stuck together like glue as they snapped photos in front of famous landmarks.I felt nothing as I looked at the photos. My mind was only filled with thoughts of choosing the best location for my new shop.I had disappeared by the time Terence and Rebecca returned from their vacation.Terence set up a rainbow arch outside Gilded Ages to celebrate the shop's reopening. He also made sure to let both new and old customers know about Rebecca's inclusion in their team."Both new and old customers are entitled to a rebate when they make a purchase. Our newly-hired restoration specialist, Rebecca Huntington, will provide you with even better service than before. She'll also host a livestream every Friday night to give you a better understanding of our luxury goods."Terence did his best to showcase his business prowess in the video.I closed the stream before it ended, not bothered enough to keep wa
