Penulis: Warm Heart

Chapter 1

Penulis: Warm Heart
The manager, Kate Bell, snatched my phone out of my hand and ended the call before the person on the other end of the line could get a word in.

She glared at me and said, "Trying to tattle, are you? I'll have you know that Mr. Samson is the one who made these arrangements."

I smiled. "Is that so?"

Kate grinned wickedly as she patted my shoulder. "The most valuable quality a person can possess is a sense of self-awareness. You need to think carefully about your own status. You're just a basic employee. What gives you the confidence to think that you can challenge me?

"You have two options. Either you work overtime, or you pack your things and get out of my sight."

My colleagues couldn't bear to stand by and do nothing anymore when they saw me being humiliated. They began sticking up for me.

"Just let it go. Most of our patrons are Lily's long-time customers. We're going to be in trouble if she leaves."

Fortunately, there were still people who knew that I was a core member of this shop.

"Lily's skills are second to none in this industry. You'll just be wasting her talents if you force her to do regular sales. You should treat Lily with more respect, Ms. Bell."

"All of us will be in hot water if you chase her off."

Kate's expression turned stormy. Her eyes glinted fiercely as she shouted, "It seems the entire world has gone mad! How dare you talk back to me when I'm bringing all of you on a trip? You ungrateful wretches. You're the ones who encouraged her bad habit of showing up late every two days."

I waved my hand and smiled at my colleagues, feeling glad that most of them were good people. Kate was the only ungrateful one among them.

"It's fine. You don't have to defend me."

The assistant manager, Claire Bernard, was usually all smiles and did everything she could to curry favor with me. However, she quickly changed her tune when she realized that Kate had opened up an opportunity for her to belittle me.

She sighed and said, "I've always shown you respect, Lily. You already benefited a lot by taking advantage of our male clients. Why don't you just apologize to Ms. Bell? We can put all of this behind us once you do."

"Is that so? Did I get in your way? Why don't you take a good, hard look in the mirror and think about whether you're worthy enough to challenge me?" I retorted mercilessly.

Claire used to always beg me for help whenever she faced a problem she couldn't solve. Now that Kate was taking the lead to harass me, she nearly tripped over herself in her eagerness to kick me when I was down.

"What do you mean?" Claire exclaimed furiously.

I shot a look of disdain at her before I swept my gaze over the interior of the shop. I had been in charge of decorating the shop when it first opened.

"Gilded Ages only managed to become the most successful business in the industry because of me. If you fire me, the shop will close down in less than two weeks."

Some of my colleagues nodded in agreement.

Kate and Claire burst into raucous laughter. They laughed so hard until they began struggling to breathe and had to lean against the wall to catch their breath.

Tears of mirth spilled down Claire's face. "All of us know that you used your looks to seduce those rich men into giving you their money, Lily. It's fine if you want to lie to us, but don't try to fool yourself."

"Fine."

I didn't feel upset at all. On the contrary, my body suddenly felt incredibly light.

I knew that Gilded Ages would never have achieved such tremendous success within three years without me. I had built it from the ground up, turning it into a massive business using my connections and skills.

I wondered if these parasites had forgotten their places because I had been too good-natured.

Kate said nothing else and began ushering everyone onto the bus.

Just then, a cab stopped in front of Gilded Ages. The door swung open to reveal a familiar-looking woman.

She greeted Kate like they were old friends before saying, "Nice to meet you, everyone. I'm Gilded Ages' new luxury goods restoration specialist, Rebecca Huntington. You can call me Becca. I hope we can build a good rapport during this trip. Everyone will also receive a 1,000 dollar raise every month!"

I smiled as I looked at Rebecca.

An interesting character had just joined the fray.

The next day, I dropped by Gilded Ages. All of the employees had been laid off by then.Terence shuffled closer to me. When he suddenly tried to kiss me, I reflexively slapped him."What are you doing?" I demanded. "You disgust me!"Tears streaked down Terence's face as he kneeled on the ground."I'm begging you, Lilian. Please give me another chance. I'll report my location to you at all times if we remarry. Rebecca's the one who led me astray. It's all her fault."The way Terence sobbed was reminiscent of an upset child. He even tried to unbutton his shirt.I redid his buttons before I turned my back to him, saying, "I'm not attracted to you anymore, Terence. Stop embarrassing yourself."Terence's eyes turned hollow. He crawled toward me and grabbed my leg. "Please give me another chance! I'll change everything that you don't like about me!""Stop being delusional. I won't forgive you so easily."I freed myself from Terence's grasp and rose to my feet, preparing to leave.

"Dad!" Terence exclaimed, looking as if his savior had just arrived. He threw himself into Tom's arms and wailed. "Hurry and talk to her, Dad! Convince her to go back to Gilded Ages to make money for the Samson family again!"Tom slapped Terence hard across the face.Terence covered his cheek with his hand and shrank back into a corner."How dare you?" Tom spat. "The two of you are husband and wife. What do you mean, 'to make money for the Samson family'? Every cent that Lilian earns rightfully belongs to her."I expected nothing less from Tom. He was a veteran of the business world, so it made sense that he knew exactly what to say to smooth over the situation. After berating Terence, Tom slowly directed his gaze to me."I heard about what happened from Terence, Lily. Your father and I were best friends. Our families share a connection that's thicker than blood. Can't you find it in yourself to forgive Terence?""I'm sorry, Mr. Samson," I replied, intentionally addressing him

"Have you lost your mind?" I retorted. "I didn't do anything to you!"Terence stuck his nose in the air. His eyes burned with fury as he began berating me."You're so shameless! You used the one million dollars that I gave you to open Treasure Trove. You plan to drive Gilded Ages into the ground and ruin my blood, sweat, and tears!"Terence was acting utterly unreasonably.I should have received much more than one million dollars when we got divorced. It was obvious that Terence had never considered the possibility that he was the source of all his problems.I suddenly felt like I was suffocating. My tongue felt as heavy as lead.It was unhealthy for people to live in their own bubbles. If they didn't get their way, they would mistakenly assume that the other person was attacking them."This is a business street, Terence," I said. "There are plenty of branded stores here. I had no intention of targeting Gilded Ages when I decided to open my shop here. It's not right for you to

"It's been some time since you dropped by," Terence said. "Our VIP room is always ready for you!"A hint of surprise flickered in Charlie's eyes. He knew that Terence and I were divorced, so he was a little bewildered to see Terence at the opening of my shop. However, Charlie was a well-mannered man who treated everyone politely, especially since Terence hadn't done anything to offend him."Mr. Samson. I've been quite busy recently. I've been Lily's customer for a long time, so it's only natural that I support her for her shop's opening. Don't worry. I won't neglect Gilded Ages either. I'll be fair to both of you," he explained with a smile.Terence breathed a sigh of relief. He pressed closer to Charlie and whispered, "If you'd like to sell any of your goods, be sure to do it at Gilded Ages. You'll definitely be satisfied with our prices. We also have plenty of funds.""Of course," Charlie answered, his body stiffening slightly as he arched his brow.I simply smiled and didn't s

Terence's expression turned stormy as I tried to poach his employees right in front of his face. He felt both humiliated and furious. The five employees nodded vigorously when I made eye contact with them."I wanted to quit Gilded Ages a long time ago, Lily! They've only been paying us our base salary.""I want to come too!"They were incredibly enthusiastic. I grinned from ear to ear as I handed each of them a gold charm."You'll have to show me your commitment if you want to join me. These charms are your welcome gifts. I'll bring you to a tailor tomorrow to order some new clothes. We can't embarrass ourselves in the eyes of the public."The employees grinned. Since they already had experience from working in Gilded Ages, they could immediately start without any training.Terence's face was twisted in fury as he watched his former employees abandon him to join me.Meanwhile, Kate dashed over to us while cursing up a storm."Have you lost your minds? Who allowed you to leave

Terence constantly flaunted his new relationship on his social media. He and Rebecca were stuck together like glue as they snapped photos in front of famous landmarks.I felt nothing as I looked at the photos. My mind was only filled with thoughts of choosing the best location for my new shop.I had disappeared by the time Terence and Rebecca returned from their vacation.Terence set up a rainbow arch outside Gilded Ages to celebrate the shop's reopening. He also made sure to let both new and old customers know about Rebecca's inclusion in their team."Both new and old customers are entitled to a rebate when they make a purchase. Our newly-hired restoration specialist, Rebecca Huntington, will provide you with even better service than before. She'll also host a livestream every Friday night to give you a better understanding of our luxury goods."Terence did his best to showcase his business prowess in the video.I closed the stream before it ended, not bothered enough to keep wa
