When I saw Maria’s call, I grumbled with annoyance. I really didn’t want to pick up her call because it would distract me from exactly what I wanted to do.

Last night, right after Maria had gone to bed, I had questioned my housekeeper.

“When did Autumn leave this house in the morning?” I had asked her.

“Um, as early as 7:00a.m, sir,” she responded.

That was really early, but then again, she had left to see that swine, and I had a feeling that she intentionally did that just to leave before I was up. However, this morning, I didn’t want to be outsmarted, so I woke up really early and got dressed.

And I waited in the living room even before seven.

“Has she come downstairs today?” I had asked my housekeeper when I came downstairs.

“No, sir, she hasn’t,” she answered.

“Are you sure?” I asked her.

“One hundred percent, sir. I have been up and about since four this morning, and no one has come downstairs,” she answered.
