LOGINLUCIAN'S POV
The clock on the wall read 7:42. I had eight minutes before I needed to be in the foyer. I stood, buttoned my shirt again, slipped on the navy suit jacket, and checked my reflection in the glass wall. I nodded in approval before walking out of the room.
When I reached the foyer, she was already there. She stood near the front doors, back straight and hands clasped loosely in front of her.
The black dress fit like it was made for her, which it was and the way it hugged every curve on her body ignited something within me. She looked up when she heard my footsteps.
I stopped a few feet away. “You cleaned up fast.”
“You gave me fifteen minutes and a closet full of clothes I didn’t ask for,” she said. “It wasn’t hard.”
I let my eyes move over her once more. “It worked.”
She tilted her head. “High praise.”
“The highest I give on short notice.”
A black Maybach waited outside. The driver opened the car door as we approached. I gestured for her to go in first and she did.
As the car pulled away from the gates, I spoke without looking at her.
“Two of the board members tonight, matter. Harold Vance who controls the pension funds and Margaret Lin handles the investors. They will ask questions about the merger and our… personal commitment.”
She turned her head slightly. “You mean they’ll ask if we’re really sleeping together or just playing house.”
I met her eyes. “They will be more subtle but yes.”
“And what’s the official answer?”
“We’re married. It's a short response but it's believable.”
“Got it.” She nodded.
“You said you’d handle Vivienne if she comes for me.” She said out of nowhere.
“I did.”
“How?”
I looked out the window at the passing streetlights. “You don't have to worry about that.”
Sienna exhaled through her nose. “You have leverage on her?”
“I keep leverage on everyone who’s ever been close enough to hurt the company.”
She didn’t respond right away. When she did, her voice was careful.
“Including me?”
I turned to face her fully.
“You are not an ex, you are a partner. The contract protects us both. I don’t need leverage when we are on the same side.”
Her eyes searched mine for a long second. “Are we on the same side?”
“Until the twelve months are up? Yes.”
She looked forward again. “Then let’s make sure the board believes it.”
The car slowed outside the private entrance of the hall. As we stepped out, I offered Sienna my arm without thinking and she took it. Her fingers rested lightly on the inside of my elbow. It was warm through the fabric. We walked in together with our heads high and a matching pace.
“Mr. Aries, is this a love match?”
“How did the families finally bury the hatchet?”
“Mrs. Aries, how does it feel to join the Aries legacy?”
We answered none of the reporters but walked inside instead. Inside the private dining room, the two board members were already seated. Harold stood first then Margaret followed and then the two other board members that were present.
“Congratulations,” Harold said, shaking my hand, then hers. “A bold move__ bold moves win markets.”
Sienna returned his handshake firmly. “Thank you. We’re looking forward to proving it.”
I watched her closely. She didn’t hesitate as she spoke. She didn't even look like the woman that called my house a cage an hour ago. She was flawless.
As we sat, Margaret leaned forward and with the right precision, she spoke. “The street is buzzing with some analytics, saying this is a takeover disguised as a merger.”
I knew how intense it can be with her subtle rings behind words and I had no idea how the night would end with her subtle shades.
“We have the best interest of our individual companies at heart and I believe that is what that matters compared to some analytics,” I responded but Margaret's face was unreadable.
I had no idea if she was satisfied by my response or if she was cooking more daring questions.
“And you, Mrs. Aries? How involved will you be day-to-day?” Harold asked and the rest of them nodded, satisfied by the question.
She didn’t blink. She just looked straight ahead. “Very. I’ve already reviewed the western division supplier contracts and identified a twelve percent cost reduction with faster delivery. We’ll have a revised proposal on the table by Monday.”
Harold’s eyebrows lifted. “You work fast.”
“I don’t see the point in waiting,” she answered simply.
I felt the corner of my mouth twitch. I covered it with a sip of water.
The rest of the dinner passed smoothly with tins of shades disguised as questions, wishing to see a crack between us. Sienna answered when it made sense, deferred to me when it didn’t. She laughed at the right moments, touched my arm once, light and soft.
When dessert plates were cleared, Harold raised his glass. “To the future.”
We all lifted ours. “To the future.”
Sienna’s eyes met mine over the rim of her glass. For a split second the mask slipped, just a flicker of the real her. I held her gaze in mine, longer than I should have.
Later, in the back of the Maybach on the way back home, neither of us spoke for the longest part then she broke the silence first.
“I didn’t embarrass you.”
“No,” I said. “You didn’t.”
She turned her head toward me. “You’re welcome.”
I almost smiled. “Don’t get used to it.”
She looked out the window again. “I wouldn't dream of it.”
The car pulled through the gates and when we stepped inside, she kicked off her heels and picked them up in one hand.
“Goodnight, Lucian.”
“Goodnight, Sienna.”
She started up the stairs and halfway up, she paused and looked back.
“For what it’s worth,” she said, “you’re not as cold as you pretend to be.”
Then she hurried up. I stood there alone, listening to her footsteps fade.
She was wrong.
I was exactly as cold as I needed to be but tonight, for the first time in years, that cold felt like it was starting to crack.
Sienna POV The morning sunlight slipped through the curtains and landed softly across my face, warm enough to disturb my heavy sleep. I groaned quietly, twisting deeper into the sheets before stretching my arms above my head, my body still sore and tired in places I didn’t want to think about. For a few seconds, I let myself stay there, suspended between sleep and waking, where nothing hurt and nothing had to be remembered. Then I slowly opened my eyes and nearly jumped out of my mind. I jerked back against the bed when I found Adrian standing beside it, arms folded across his chest, looking down at me like he had been there for a while. He broke into a wide grin immediately. “Morning, beautiful.” I stared at him for a second before letting out a small, sleepy chuckle, rubbing my knuckles against my eyes like I could erase the sleep completely. “Morning, Adrian,” I muttered, my voice still thick with sleep. He shook his head, amused. “It is almost twelve noon,” he said. “At
Lucian POV “I did you a favour, Lucian. A huge favour!” I stared at my grandfather like I had never truly seen him before. For years, I had mistaken control for care. I had convinced myself that his coldness was discipline, that his cruelty was wisdom, that every decision he forced on me was for the good of the family, the company, the legacy but standing there now, hearing him speak about Sienna like she was some inconvenience to be removed, something disposable, I realized something terrifying. He had never cared about me. He cared about ownership, about power, about bloodlines and signatures and family names carved into buildings. “You met with her?” I repeated slowly, my voice low and dangerous. “You cornered my wife while I was too blind to see what was happening, and you call that a favor?” His expression remained calm, almost irritated by my reaction. “Yes,” he said firmly. “Because someone had to protect what you were too weak to protect yourself from.” I laughed then,
Sienna POV “Dad, you’re too slow!” I shouted over my shoulder, laughing so hard my stomach hurt. Behind me, my father laughed loudly as he chased after me, his footsteps heavy on purpose like he was pretending to be some giant monster and I was his tiny prey trying to escape. “Come back here, little thief!” he called between laughs. “You stole my biscuit!” “You said I could have it!” I yelled back, running even faster. “I changed my mind!” He teased, still chasing after me. “Goodness, you are only eight but you run so fast!” I laughed harder and kept running deeper into the field, past the old tree and farther into the tall grass where my mother always warned me not to go but I was too happy to care. I turned briefly to look behind me, still smiling, still laughing, and that was when the ground disappeared beneath my feet. A scream tore from my throat as I fell. The pit had been covered with dry hay and weak branches, hidden so well I never saw it, causing me to land so hard
Sienna POV I wanted to be away from everyone. It hurts more to be with anyone than to be alone. So, I hid in the hospital's storage room while I heard the hurried footsteps outside the hospital walls, looking for me. While they tried every possible means, including checking the CCTV, the steps eventually subsided, reducing to just typical hospital movement. I had probably passed out from exhaustion, but the time seemed far spent. I stared at the screen of my phone, trying to see if I could call anyone, but I literally had no one to call. Not even Lucian could be called right now. Not him. I checked the time and it was 9:30 pm. I had been inside here for hours, crouched down inside one of the huge cartons discarded in the storage room, my body folded into itself like I was trying to disappear completely. I felt numb. No tears rolled down my face anymore. I had cried too much lately, too many times, and now there was nothing left. I was exhausted. Too exhausted. My mind juggled ba
Lucian POV It had been almost two weeks since I last heard from Sienna, and the silence was slowly driving me to a place I didn’t recognize anymore, a place where nothing made sense and nothing felt worth holding onto. I stood in the middle of my office, staring down at the tablet in my hand, my reflection faintly visible on the dark screen as numbers and charts blurred together in a way that made my chest tighten with every passing second. Everything was falling apart. Not gradually, not in a way I could control or manage, but all at once, like something had snapped beneath the surface and dragged everything down with it. The company’s chart had dropped drastically, the once steady rise now replaced with sharp, unforgiving dips that told a story I didn’t want to accept. Petitions were flying in from different departments, complaints stacked on complaints, and employees were leaving faster than I could even process. Investors were pulling out quietly at first, then not so quietly
Sienna POV A week had passed, and I was still at the hospital, though the atmosphere around me had softened in a way that almost made it feel like I had stepped into a different version of my life where pain wasn’t constantly sitting at the edge of everything. My mother sat on the chair beside my bed peeling an apple carefully, the skin falling in long curls onto a small plate as she focused like it was the most important task in the world, while Asher sat near the window with one leg crossed over the other, scrolling through his phone with a relaxed expression that made him look almost normal for once. My bed was slightly raised now, my back supported by pillows so I wasn’t fully lying down anymore, as I took a bite of the apple my mother had insisted I finish before she even considered listening to any of my complaints. The room felt almost like home in a strange way, and for a few minutes, I let myself sink into it. I looked at Asher from across the room, chewing slowly before

Lucian POVThe restaurant went quiet the moment I stepped inside. Not completely quiet, but the kind of quietness that spreads when attention shifts without permission. The whole conversations in there seemed to be lowered while the cutleries slowed and a few heads turned but none of that mattered.
