Chapter 5

Author: A Lake’s Depth
Before he arrived, the driver called Jessica, “Ma’am, Mr. Ferguson went to the Mid-Autumn Gala as per the invite. He told me to drive you to the old manor first.”

Jessica tapped on the phone screen as a sign to express her acknowledgment. She then carried Winson in her arms. On the couch was the gift for the Mid-Autumn Festival which she had prepared for the elders in the family. Miss Susan helped her to take the gift down.

The driver stood beside the car, but when Jessica came out, he did not even welcome her or open the door for her. Miss Susan glared at him before she put the gift in the car.

The driver was a veteran driver for the Fergusons, and he was good at choosing sides. He knew that Jessica barely had any power in the family. Although he might call her ‘Madam’, he never treated her as Mrs. Ferguson.

Jessica never liked to cause trouble, so she tended to be less calculative.

The driver started the car and reached the old Fergusons’ manor in 20 minutes.

Jessica got out of the car. The servants from the manor came out to welcome the young master while she brought the gift in.

The Ferguson family was huge. Every festive season, there was no lack of people visiting the manor, including their extended relatives. However, ever since Old Master Ferguson fell ill and had to rest, the family stopped guests from visiting.

Due to that reason, the upper-class socialites and businessmen had been asking the Fergusons out for gatherings or dinner since they could not visit.

The large Ferguson manor felt extremely empty without the cherry crowd. The garden was blanketed with flowers, and the trees were lush, yet it felt a little lonely because of the lack of human presence.

After shuttling through the front garden, Jessica reached the manor. In the living room, only Robert and his wife were there. Despite being a respectable family in Beijing, the manor was pitifully empty and quiet.

Lady Cecilia, Robert’s legitimate wife and Blake’s mother, was sitting on the couch while playing with her grandson.

During the weekends, Blake usually brought his wife and son back to the old manor for dinner, so Winson was not a stranger to the youthful grandmother. Winson called her ‘Grandma’ in his childish voice whilst his petite hands toyed with the accessories on Lady Cecilia’s clothes.

Lady Cecilia was a strict and elegant person, but in front of her grandson, she was kind and loving. She was not worried that her grandson might ruin her clothes. Instead, she smiled. “Do you like the pearls too?”

“Ya!” Winson spewed the word out loud and giggled. He moved closer to the pearl necklace and wanted to taste it.

Jessica had bought some notoginseng powder as a gift. She had gone to the Chinese medicinal herb shop and watched them grind the root into powder. Staying in good health was the trend nowadays. The raw notoginseng powder could heal bruises and boost blood circulation whereas in its cooked form, it could boost the formation of blood and preserve one’s beauty. It had grown even more popular than Ganoderma in the past two years.

The Fergusons were wealthy, so they practically had all the best things under their roof. The gifts that people simply gave them because of some trend or recommendation were mostly rejected.

Jessica did not have her parents around to teach her what kind of gift was suitable for the festive season, so she decided to go with the supplement for the best effects.

She heard from the principal of the deaf and mute school that after taking notoginseng powder for seven to eight months, the pigmentation on her skin had faded a lot. Therefore, Jessica decided to take the principal’s advice and she bought several boxes.

She put the boxes of gifts on the tea table and signed to Lady Cecilia, “Mother, I bought you some notoginseng powder. I heard it’s good for the skin. Please try it.”

Lady Cecilia did not even spare a glance at Jessica as she continued playing with her grandson. “Look what Grandma bought you.” She then shot the servant a glance and the latter brought over a whole set of expensive Lego.

Winson was too young to play with Legos, but Lady Cecilia loved her grandson and would give him the entire world if she could.

Jessica smiled. She then looked at Robert, her father-in-law, who was reading the newspaper on the other end of the couch.

This was his daughter, who had half of his blood on him. The more he looked, the more satisfied he became. When he held her in his arms and looked at her, he laughed foolishly."Blue carp, look at you. You knead the mud every day. It's better for me to make it for you."Lan Li saw someone coming from the corner of her eye. She secretly stepped on him and whispered, "Shut up!"Blake came over with Jessica and said with a smile, "I heard it. I hope this child will grow up and not be as thick-skinned as you."He looked at the baby. Half a year had passed, and the little girl was growing up to be white and tender, more and more beautiful.Blake said to Lan Li, "It's better to act like you."Mo Feitong glared at him. "What if you add his surname?""Mo, Mo, Mo Xiao?" Jane came to her senses and tried hard to hold back her laughter.Indeed, such a good name, coupled with Mo Feitong's surname, had no meaning of blessing at all. No wonder Lan Li disliked it."Even now, the two of them are still arguing over names. Old Mr. Mo is urging to them register. Alas, the baby's completion of its first month of life dinner is about to start, and the name on the invitation card is still empty..."Jane smiled and listened to him.In the past three years, they had no contacts with phone, app, or emails, not even a letter on paper. However, after three years, they didn't seem to have been separated for a long time at all. It seemed more like they had returned to the days when they were together before.Calm, occasionally look at other people's lives, and talk about themself."I think it's a good name. At the last moment, Pei Xian gave up. Wasn't she resentful? As everyone's faces lit up, Jane's lips twitched. "I can only thank him."She saw him putting on the ring to Yan Ling and could understand him. She could only thank him for agreeing to marry Yan Ling at that time.Putting aside the fact that he didn't have time to think about it at that time, it was the last request of a dying person and her last hope.It was she, Jane, who owed Yan Ling. In this life, she couldn't repay it, and she couldn't give the Yans a good daughter. She should have been standing on the stage full of light, but she disappeared like fireworks in the blink of an eye.Although Pei Xian didn't say anything, Jane understood him the most.He took pity on Yan Ling, thanked Yan Ling, and also helped her to return the favor. Before Yan Ling died, she was accompanied by the person she loved. If she had not been born, as long as she took the blame for feticide, those people would have been able to live well. They would not know each other. If they did not know each other, they would have a different life.Jane fixed her eyes on Lian Liang and unconsciously tightened her grip, as if she wanted to crush her shoulder.Lian Liang looked at Jane's ferocious face and was so scared that she forgot to cry. She sobbed again and again and didn't dare to cry out because of the pain in her shoulder. She just frowned tightly. They looked at each other for a long time as if they were confronting each other.Jane's throat was stuck. After a long time, her face softened and tears trickled down from her eyes. With difficulty, she said, "But so many people... because of you, because of me, they lost their lives... only the two of us have to bear all of this... ... we have no reason to cry. We have no right to blame anyone...""There is nowhere for us to retreat to..."Jane felt a fire

The ward was empty. There was only his voice, and no one responded to him.Glancing at Jane, Zhang Yeting knew that he had finished what he wanted to say, so he turned around and walked towards the door. His trip to the United States this time was actually to convince Zuo Yiming to write his will first, but he didn't expect that...At this time, Joe stopped him and said, "You'll report the truth to that person, won't you?"Joe picked up the document, walked up to Zhang Yeting, and said, "Tell him that Lian Liang has been killed by Zheng Zai. His last heir is gone."Zuo Yiming yearned for someone to inherit the kingdom, and in the end was told that there was no one to do so. It was the greatest blow to him and also the greatest irony."The sins of the Zuos can't be redeemed even in hell!"..."Joe, the girl is crying again. We, we can't handle her anymore!"Father Qiao called Joe out with a panicked look on his face.Lian Liang's so-called grandparents were just strangers in f

She had worn a wedding dress and married him...Pei Xian's eyes burned. He clutched her hand tightly and swallowed it slightly. He nodded. "Alright."Pei Xian asked Lin Feiran to go buy a diamond ring immediately. Jiang Shu hurriedly took out the ring from her bag and said, "No need. There's one here."Pei Xian had bought the diamond ring at a jewelry shop. Yan Ling had said that the engagement would be canceled, but she was reluctant to throw it away and had been carrying it with her all the time.Pei Xian took the ring and slowly put it on her finger with trembling hands.Yan Ling's fingers were red and swollen. After wearing the ring for a long time, she was satisfied. She looked at Pei Xian with her eyes shining, and a teardrop fell from the corner of her eye.Outside the ward, Jane watched blankly as Pei Xian put the ring on Yan Ling's finger and saw her trying her best to put on a happy smile. The doctor's regretful words kept echoing in her mind: "Miss Yan's injury is so

Zheng Zai's car exploded. He was severely injured, his spleen ruptured, and his back was seriously burned. He was temporarily sent to the intensive care unit. He closed his eyes and covered the white cloth with a solemn expression.Jane's stomach twisted, but she couldn't spit it out. Her stiff body was out of control, and she had to rely on Joe's support. When she stood up, her last bit of st

Blake frowned. They had already returned to Shujinyuan. How could there be a car accident? However, the location of the incident wasn't far from Shujinyuan, which meant that the Lians wouldn't be coming out until they arrived at Shujinyuan."Mr. Ferguson, you seem to know something. Who is Zheng Zai? Why did he hold the little girl hostage?"The police kept asking. Blake looked calm and said, "Captain Li, the situation is chaotic now. We'll investigate after the operations are over. What do you think?"The police looked around. There were nurses coming in and out, and someone was stopping the media from coming in for an interview. It was indeed chaotic, so they agreed.Blake gave Pei Xian a look. The two of them walked to a quiet corner, and Joe also came over.Blake asked, "Is Zheng Zai from Zhang Yeting's side?""He was behind this?"Joe pursed his lips and frowned. Jane had been worried that the other party would take advantage of the chaos to harm the child, but no one had
