Chapter 1

"Seth, just handle it however you see fit. Don't let trash like them ruin your day. We run a luxury spa, not a charity."

The voice coming through the video call was unmistakably Fiona Miller's. But what she said sent chills down my spine.

"You hear that, deadbeat?" Seth Zeller shot me a smug look and added, "She said that I should handle this my way."

Before I could react, he snatched my phone and threw it into a nearby water bucket. It hit the surface with a splash, and the screen went black in an instant.

Just like that, we had no way to contact anyone for help.

"What the hell are you doing?" I yelled.

"Teaching you scammers how things work around here, that's what," Seth spat, his voice full of malice.

Suddenly, Dad let out a choked gasp beside me, and his whole body seized up.

I quickly steadied him and saw his face turn purple while his breathing came in short, shallow gasps.

I knew it was a heart attack. And with his serious heart condition, any stress could kill him.

"Dad! Dad, what's wrong?"

I pounded on the locked glass door frantically, my voice breaking.

"Open this door right now! My dad's having a heart attack. I need to get him his medication!"

But Seth didn't look concerned at all. In fact, he pulled out his phone and started a live stream, aiming the camera at us.

He deliberately zoomed in on Dad's pain-twisted face and my desperate expression.

"Check this out, everyone. This father and son duo tried to receive treatment at our spa without paying. After we caught them, they started faking illness.

"They've even gone all out and pretended to have a heart attack. That one's acting like he's about to die. Give this man a Best Actor award."

The live stream chat exploded with comments from people who had no idea what was really happening.

"Holy crap! Are scammers really that desperate nowadays? The guy's literally playing with his life."

"This old man's acting is really convincing. It's a shame that he didn't audition to become an actor."

"Don't worry, dude. We've got your back. These losers don't deserve any mercy."

I was shaking all over with rage and screamed, "We're not scammers. I'm Fiona's older brother, and this is her father. Open this damned door right now. You won't get away with it if something happens to my father."

Fiona clutched that damning document in her hands. Her eyes turned red, and she collapsed to the floor.Seth noticed things going south and tried to slip away while no one was paying attention. But Chris raised a hand to block him. "Mr. Zeller, where do you think you're going?"Every eye in the hallway instantly fixed on him.Seth stammered, "I-I'm not feeling well. I need to find a doctor..."That was when Fiona snapped out of it and got on her knees. She pleaded, "Mom! James! I was wrong. I really was. Even if we're not blood-related, all these years, we've been closer than family. Please give me one more chance."Besides, Seth truly loves me. He really does. Mom, please let us be together. From now on, I promise to take care of you and Dad."I snorted. She was beyond saving at this point.I shot Chris a look. He immediately pulled out his phone and played a video. The moment Seth recognized the people on screen, he shrieked and lunged for the phone."No! Don't watch that

The lights above the operating room finally dimmed. The doctors managed to save Dad. But the heart attack had caused serious damage, so he was immediately moved to the ICU.If Chris wasn't there with me, I would have broken down in tears.Presently, Mom was abroad finalizing a business deal. I couldn't tell her about what had happened to Dad and me. I was worried she'd panic and get into an accident while rushing back home. Thankfully, she was already well on her way home today.Just then, I heard footsteps echoing down the hall. I looked up to see Fiona arrive with Seth, both dressed as if ready for a fancy event. She was three hours late. If she had any shred of decency, she would have dropped everything and come immediately upon hearing the news."What more do you want?" Fiona snapped at me. "Seth already said he was sorry. Why are you still holding onto this and making such a big deal out of it?"Her impatient tone left me numb with anger. I soon realized that this was w

After the bodyguards dragged Fiona and Seth out, I rubbed Dad's back to calm him down."Dad, you just recovered. Don't stress over this ugly mess. I'll handle it.""James, I raised you and Fiona just the same. I never played favorites. But how did she turn out like this…"Dad's eyes reddened, and tears rolled down his stoic face, soaking into the pillowcase. All I could do was squeeze his hand tight and sit with him while he processed everything in silence.I'd thought that once we kicked them out, things would settle down for a while. But I never expected Seth's shamelessness could stretch so far. While I was feeding Dad sips of warm water, my phone started buzzing nonstop. I checked and saw dozens of texts from my assistant, Chris Hall."Mr. James, we've got a problem. Seth's trashing you and Mr. Miller online. The Internet's going crazy."My heart pounded in my chest as I clicked the attached link with trembling fingers. The moment it loaded, a bold, black headline screamed

Fiona turned to look at Dad, lying unconscious beside me, and her face went deathly pale."Dad!" she shouted. "Dad! What happened to you? Who did this? Who the hell did this?"She clutched Dad, her voice shaking, and her eyes full of terror.Behind her, Seth and the two male employees finally understood what had happened. The color drained from their faces, and they looked terrified.…Dad and I were soon taken to the hospital. Dad was rushed into emergency care, and the doctors finally stabilized him. However, they said that untrained pressure on his chest had induced an acute heart attack. He'd need to remain hospitalized for observation.Meanwhile, I was mostly fine. I just had some scrapes and bruises, plus the puncture wound where Seth's shoe went through my hand. After Dad was transferred to the VIP room, the first thing I did was have the bodyguards bring Seth and the employees who'd injured us to the hospital."Mr. Miller, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I really messed up…

A flicker of hope ignited inside me. I couldn't tear my eyes away from Fiona as she walked in.The second she pushed through the door, Seth dropped his cutter and rushed over to her like a wounded puppy."Babe, thank God you're here. Someone called me a kept man and bullied me," he said.Fiona looked distressed. She pulled him close and spoke softly to soothe him."It's okay, Seth. I'm here now. Who would dare touch you?"He pointed at Dad lying unconscious on the floor and at me, who was covered in dirt and blood."It's them. These two deadbeats came into our spa to cause trouble and tried to walk out without paying. When I called them out, this one faked a heart attack and tried to hit me."Dad and I were caked in grime, our faces covered in dirt, such that we were nearly unrecognizable. It was natural that Fiona didn't recognize us.After hearing that, her expression instantly darkened."Where'd these street rats come from? You dared to mess with my sweetheart? They must ha

I never got close enough to hit him with the metal ornament. The two employees reacted quickly and grabbed hold of me, locking me in place. Several hard slaps landed across my face, leaving me dizzy and disoriented."You psycho! You dare to hit me? You must have a death wish," Seth spat.Despite the ringing in my ears, I kept shouting at them."Fiona! When she finds out what you did to us, she'd never let you get away with this. She'll tear you apart!"Seth stopped hitting me at that moment. He grabbed a handful of my hair and wrenched my head backward, forcing me to look at him."You're done for, and you're still playing pretend? You keep claiming you're her brother, but take a good look at yourself. Do you look anything like her?"His words caught me off guard for a second. He was right to say that we didn't look anything alike because she wasn't my parents' biological daughter.During a heavy snowstorm, the six-year-old me got separated from my parents at an amusement park.
